Rant: Why GW isn't fun anymore

Now, let me start off first with a a fact first:
I don't like pvp. Period.
No reason to go further into why I don't like pvp. I don't like the idea of either being better than the othr 8 opposing guys with my 7 team-mates or not, it's just not my thing. So that only leaves me with good old PvE.

Whats been buggin me over the years have been the nerfs thanks to the PVP guys, be it the minion cap, or the more recently Soul Reaping nerf.
Aside from that, I've been a fairly happy camper.
The problem with the whole idea of the game has been grind. There either is a lot of grind (getting LB rank 8 before the upadate) or it's way too easy.
If there is a lot of grind, like the aforementioned LB8, there is almost no reward for it. I spent a lot of hours slaughtering margonites just to get my max title. And then what? Not only is the reward not worth mentioning, but a couple of months later it's almost a piece of cake to get to said rank.

Back in the days, I started off with a ranger. Damage output was sh*t compared to some other classes, so I made a Necro. Finished the game with him and felt atop of the world. Next I tried the Ele. That was awesome, lots and lots of damage dealing, but there were way too many of 'em. So I took a while to look what else people needed: monks! everybody and their mother wanted monks. I started a monk but pretty soon after getting my monk throught the first couple missions I was fed up with it. It took quite a while, untill the 55 build became popular for me to continue to continue playing my monk. Untill then I just kept playing my Necro, because he had decent defensive and good offensive capabilities.
As said 55 build became popular, I started rushing my monk through the game, and soon after became pretty fond of monking. Not only is the the most usefull non-combat team-mate, he is/was the best choice for universal solo-farming. I loved my monk (and still do). I got all my titles for him (cartography, protector, skill hunter, and a few more), but nowadays, I'm kinda stuck.

I played 95% of the 3 guildwars campaing in a guild, but I also did 98% of the missions and quests on my own with NPCs. There hasn't ben a simgle mission so far I haven't beaten without the aid of other people (admittingly I had to do gate of madness on my monk, necro and ele with others, while my ranger only needed NPCs). Yet every time I beat one of the 3 campaigns I asked myself, wtf am I gonna do now?
Towards the end of Prophecies, I made a ton of gold doing spider runs with a friend of mine, and that was some great fun. Towards the end of factions I made some pretty good money farming Shiroken. At the beginning pf Nightfall I made a pretty good sum of money selling the rubys and sapphires I aquire during factions. And then what? I tried playing a Mesmer: That got boring after a while, nobody needed a mesmer, ever. I tried playing an Assasin: They don't deal as much damage as an Ele yet die alot faster than a Warrior. Ritualist: They have some nifty buffs, yet don't touc a monk.
And in Nightfall: Paragons? What for? Dervish? Same as assasins.

So right now I find myself wondering, what the hell am I gonna do? I got my monk the fissure armor, died with 3 black and a blue. I got him a ghostly staff for prot and whatevr he needs for other duties.
So, what now? Aside from the Warrior, nobody gives a damn about the look of the weapon you are carrying. 15k Armor was a big deal back in Prophecies, but nowadays most people are running arround with fow.
Maybe I missed the whole point of the game, but I miss the days where finding that 15^50 weapon with that weapontype you wanted was a bit f*cking deal. But now, there are a couple of weapons that are pretty cool, but I'll be damned if I ever find one of them. And not that it matters, I can go to the nearest crafter and get one of my own, not the same skin, but the same atributes. And what for?

My guild seriously active in PvE. Just this week this did annother 4in1 run in HM. Was I sad that I wasn't there? Nope, not really. When GW2 comes out, it don't matter what shiznit you got, so whats the point?
I miss the times where I was happy when my drop improved a little bit of this, and a little bit of that, nowadays I can get my maxed stuff for as little as 10k.

So, if anybody feels some compassion,
tell me what else is there to do in Guild Wars?

Can't find enjoyment from GW, stop playing. This is the only answer.

I totally agree. 99% of PvP is full of elitist snobbery who only see you for what wiki build you copied and pasted (or your rank, another example of GRIND)

The nerfs were needed. Unfortunately Areanet unleashed their nerfs at the wrong profession: they nerfed poor paragons rather than overpowered dervishes.

Grindfall. Need I say anymore?

I am getting exactly the same negative feelings: there is nothing left for those who have completed everything except grind. And then grind some more. Allow me to explain why:

PvP + Rank = Grind

As I have said, you cannot participate in most of PvP without Rank, which requires Grind.

Nightfall + Sunspear points = Grindfall

Eugh, hated it.

Drops + Loot Scaling = Grind.

Loot-scaling has made the rich just as rich and the poor forever damned...

To answer your question, the only thing left to do is do what Areanet says: Grind! Yes it's incredibly boring and ludicrous but Areanet haven't quite grasped that grind is not fun, hence Guild Wars 2 will be full of it.

Why do you need someone else to tell you what to do for fun? If you aren't happy playing anymore, then find something else. If there isn't anything else, then bide your time until there IS something. Posting rants like yours helps nobody.

I'm also in the posistion where I don't find GW AS fun anymore. But then again I don't PvE. I only PvP now but still it's loosing it's spark.

So I'm taking a break. And I know when Hellgate: London comes out I will stop playing entirely. Well until GW2 comes out.

Grind in GW? seriously not? there is no forced grind. Everything is achiveable without, it just takes longer.

Dervish's rule.

But really it looks like you ran out of stuff to do. Sucks to be you.

Also why do people always think Rits are a weak version of Monks? They do have other uses.

And Paragons. I never made one, but I always want one in my party. Along with a Rit.

I guess those two classes are more "Team Player" than the other classes.

Sounds like its time for you to move on.

Sorry Malice but there is 100 %.

In Grindfall (I refuse to call it by its true name because of this: SUNSPEAR POINT GRIND!)

In Istan for example the game told me that I had to gain 100s of sunspear points or grind to lvl 17 before I could continue following the storyline. This is grind. The game told me (in a primary quest) that I HAD to gain this before I could play the storyline.

Then, in Kourna, the game told me I had to gain the rank of "Sunspear General" before continuing with the storyline. it told me to grind, i.e. farm sunspear points before I was allowed to play the game properly in the story.

Can I say it any simpler? Grind is in Grindfall very clearly. And allow me to reiterate:

Grinding is not fun!

It's a bit ironic that the two activities Anet tried hardest to remove from their game, farming and grinding, are the main ones sustaining it. To that effect I have to say they still aren't quite living up to their design vision. And that doesn't mean keep nerfing the things they don't want (which is their usual solution) it means figure out ways to add more fun content that isn't title grind or farming bait.

There's not much of a grind after the Sunspear Title, though. And you don't have to grind it if you're from a different campaign.

But yes, the Sunspear grind does suck. Once it's done it's done forever, though.

Ouch, and true. Double points for the proper use of "ironic".

Well, I think that Anet never expected the amount of RPG'ers that would hook onto their PvE game and put in that many hours into it.

I think you have a point and there's a limited amount of things to do to build and expand your character.

I think this is the very reason why Guild Wars 2 is coming. So have a bit of patience. I expect that the gw2 game will be much more ready to deal with the PvE/RPG demand from what I can see.

Why anyone would buy this game soley for pve is beyond me. If that is all you are looking for there are far superior games. Anyway, it's really getting old complaining about this soul reaping "nerf", I have a pve necromancer and there has been no crippling effect from the change. I find it laughable that people say it has ruined their character. If that is the case, maybe they should give up video games.

Ranting is one of the things we don't allow on the boards, especially since you aren't trying to make a point and just saying you're tired of Guild Wars. Lots of people are, but you don't have to make a thread about it just to complain and not say anything productive.
