If you purchase your lockpicks from a Discount Merchant, the base price of lockpicks goes down to 1200g per key, resulting in a substantial lowering of survival chance needed to break even. Discounted lockpicks will have a better value than discounted keys only if the regular priced lockpick had a better value than the regular priced key. -wiki-
Someone plz awnser this for me, Are Full price lockpicks better at retaining than Discounted?
thnx in adv

Im sorry, i thought the price of the lockpick had to do with the equasion to decide weather the lockpick broke or not.
Well, im giving up on lockpicks altogether, as well as keys, imo they arent worth what's inside the chest anyway, and with max Lucky points, and max Treasure hunter, your still looking at a 43% (33+10) to not break the lock pick. So, i spent 50-75k to get lucky title, wich changed my 10% chance to retain a lockpick into 12%.(Hard mode chest)
And thank you for finally making me understand what that statement meant, it has been bothering me all weekend, i thank you and apreciate your critizm.

but if you look at it as spending 50-75k working on 3 title.....possible 4.....
Lucky
Unlucky
Treasure Hunter
Wisdom Title
its not a bad investment....you probably would have spent 30k just getting Lucky title playing in one of the rings see below
Lucky Nine Rings Rings of Fortune
Charmed
50,000 tickets 5,294 games 44.1K 26,667 games 50.0K
So if you bought say 60k worth of 1200g Lock Picks
you bought 50 keys
which is half way to Treasure hunter title with absolutely not retention of any lock picks...which you obviously had some...so if you look at it like that
it only cost 16K to get half-way thru the Treasure Title Tier 1
and 44k to get first lvl of Lucky....and probably work towards the other 2 i mentioned as well.

The answer to your question is, "NO."
His point in that passage is about calculating which is a better choice to use on a chest in Normal Mode, a lockpick or a key. His comment about the discounted lockpick vs the regular priced lockpick was peripheral information.

I belong to an alliance that runs a town....the saving is pitiful for the amount of work it takes to control one...not only that but you have to "map" back to that town to purchase the discounted items..unless i am buying something in bulk....i don't bother with the discount merchant...as far as i am concerned the only thing worth purchasing from them is keys.
