What benefits do we get from attaining titles ?
Buster
From what we all understand we will be getting some kind of benefits/bonuses in GW2 from attaining titles. I am sure everyone including myself would like to know because before we spend tons of time getting all these nice titles, I want to be sure it is worth putting the time and effort into it. Everyone's thoughts are most certainly welcome.

Enko
no one knows but anet. GW2 is still over 2 years away . . though guess we might get a pre cursor once the hall of monuments comes out in GWEN
BoredJoe
I imagine you'll get ranks in the "People Knew Me" or "I was Important but I'm Dead now" title.
Guildmaster Cain
Lets speculate on something that is 2 years from now. With any luck, some of the speculations will be seen as 'the truth'.
So far, I heard that the Norn respect people that killed a lot of bosses. Probably related to 'Elite Skill Hunter', so if you have attained this title, you can create special armor from the Norns! w00t!

So like here's my answer to what you are asking. If you are getting a title merely for the pragmatic benefits, obviously there are already titles with in game benefits... get those and worry about tomorrow when the time comes. I recognize people have their own reasons for getting titles and I dont mean to belittle anyone elses efforts, but seriously, if you gotta ask what title to get the answer is none.

Sweet Tooth.... Hopefully I'll get a big cookie for getting GW2.
Kook~NBK~
I'm not worried about what benefits will come from getting titles. When titles were first introduced, there was no mention of benefits other than a bit of bragging rights for having it. Some people began working on titles as a personal challenge, only looking for the satisfaction of achieving it.
Who knows? With GW2 2 years away, many people who're playing GW now will have moved on to other things in life like college, career, etc.

No one knows, especially because with GW2 being over a year away things may change in the meanwhile. All we have is the formal GW announcement relating to GWEN.

Since it's never too early to speculate, and generally speaking, the benefits from attaining titles will most definitely be related to:
- Prestige.
- 'Ego' massage.
- Minor neat stuff.
- Minor buffs.
Later, you'll just have to add the ingredients into the formula. And the right mix of ingredients will make all the difference.

Titles are their own reward.... Nobody is forcing you to put in time and effort to earn them. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Thus effectively.... all our effort now, as far as GW2 is concerned.... is only going to amount to a few pretty but ultimately impractical trinkets.... I imagine. If we're very lucky.... they will be things we can wear without them interfering with other useful gear. If we're unlucky.... they are things we will never wear because practicality has to win over appearance.

If it were up to me, I'd vote for nothing other than the words that show up under your name. I say this because I'm a big fan of the level 20 cap, and feel that these random benifits are going to subvert the old paradigm that a level 20 character is a max character. The bonus from lightbringer titles is pretty big. Who know's what you'll have to grind for next?

I can't believe that GW2 is already becoming corrupted (at least in people's imaginations) by GW1 titles. Just get rid of them, they're horrid! There should be no benefits for being more of a loser, than the average gamer (nothing personal, Buster
).
Here's a thought - replace them with something you can't choose and is designed to tell others how you play i.e. "Early Leaver", "Bot-like Farmer", "Loot Scavenger", etc...
At least that would benefit the community, rather than just massage fragile egos.

Bane of Worlds
When GW:EN is released, everyone will know which title to go after for certain benefits that are not worth mentioning since they should not provide significant benefit over new gw2 characters. It will only reward with something that tells you of your achievements from the GW1 games. Woot, vet stat lol

LOL you guys are soo messed up sometimes.
GW2+GW1 Title= items/armor/pets/weapons/skills(maybe) ONLY!

Most, if not all of the titles in the game have at least one benefit that often get overlooked because everyone is concerned about active benefits from titles like Lightbringer.
Lightbringer: Obvious bonuses; Gaze, more dmg, dmg reduction, etc.
Sunspear: Sunspear Rebirth Sig, mission progression in NF, more bonuses in the form of class specific skills are said to be coming.
Skill Hunter: With all or a lot of the Elite skills unlocked, it allows you to have much more versatile characters and heroes. Sure there are some elite skills that don't seem worth it(and they probably aren't), but they could help eventually. An often overlooked bonus.
Cartographer: What better way to help your guild or friends than to know where everything is? This one has minimal benefits, but to anyone who ahs explored and entire continent(Tyria mainly), there are some neet places that the designers put in. A small bonus, but still fun to obtain, imo.
Treasure Hunter and Wisdom: Their benefits are known with regards to lockpicks and salvaging.
Drunkard and Sweet Tooth: money sinks, completely pointless, but they are just there for people with too much money, lol. If a reward is given for these in GW2, I, for one, will be disappointed.
Protector and Guardian: Mission knowledge. You know how to do every mission and get bonus/master's and can help friends/guildmates do them when they get stuck. Another often overlooked bonus.
Vanquisher: Meant for Hardcore(no pun intended) grinders. Benefit beign the XP and Gold acquired upon vanquishing an area.
Lucky and Unlucky: Benefit only recently added in the form of retaining lockpicks. Unlucky added just to make sense I guess...
Survivor: No bonus really. Too easy to get nowadays.
Legendary Defender of Ascalon: Proves you have no life pretty much, although I do respect people who have it as it does take a lot of time and patience.
Gladiator, Hero, Champion, Commander: increases amount of uncap Baalthazar Faction by 5k per level, not bad if your PvP'ing(which you probably are if you have this title) and need to unlock skills.
Gamer: Proves you definetely have no life because while in game, you play a different game...
Faction Allegiance: Give your alliance control of a town and allows access to discounted merchandise and access to the Canthan Elite Missions.
Maxed Titles: Complete Ego Boost, but fun to have due to Anchorman reference.
Lightbringer: Obvious bonuses; Gaze, more dmg, dmg reduction, etc.

I just hope that I won't have to have a title to transfer armors to my GW 2 character, and that I can transfer as many as I want
So Dunkoro and my pet will outlive me? ARGH

It's not about what we get but what the company get. We're supposed to feel inclined to fulfil these titles - which we do - and in return we keep playing and buy future releases. The titles are only a few hours of programming with a potential return of, well, quite a bit of cash.
We're led to believe that these titles reward our skill and effort whereas we know that every single one is grind. The marketing dept. seem to have employed a pyschologist.
The thing I liked most about Guild Wars compared to other games is the lack of 'points' which measure how 'well' we're doing. Other than fame (and character level), there was no number counting prior to the introduction of titles.
Numbers make us compelled to be the best which is bad for us but good for the business model.

I have more then 2000 hours on this char for a 12 months - have the I’m Very Important title too and imagine my surprise when i open my birthday present and i get a Fungal Wallow
. Is this a rare gift? One thing that Anet don’t count when they give presents is how many accomplishments have a player in the game. I just feel sorry for the time a spend trying to do all that titles as fast as possible till the first birthday on my char. But hey its only a game 8(

*Shudders at the thought that people might actually try to earn something, without wanting something in return!*
God forbid you just take pleasure and pride in yourself, when someone comes and says "Nice Title"!
But nooo, these titles arent worth squat unless Anet gives us something in return. We MUST have a beneficial, substantial gain from achieving them, otherwise why bother?
Ayano Mitsu
More titles for the titles you had in the first game?
Komes I
Well i suppose that what you have achived is diffrent for evryone. For me it is achivment to Ascend, and to have fun. To meet new people. But most of all achivment is to have fun with my friends. Titles - well i have few but they don't mean much to me. Only one i want to max right now is Holy Lightbringer. Only because i like the way it sounds.

Did Anet say "get lots of max titles and we'll give you this amazing rare item"?
Hmm.....Nope!
Im feeling all nastalgic of when I worked in a shop. All those countless days when id be working on the deli and a customer would come ask for something we didnt have. Id politely say "sorry we dont have that today" and withing 2 seconds Id hear "Why not? I want some now! Let me speak to the manager!!"
Happy days!!!
I cant believe how self-rightious some players can be.
Just because a player puts in lots of hours of gameplay, and earns max titles, they think they deserve some kind of recognision. They think Anet should get down on bended knee and kiss their shoes.
Did Anet force you to rush all those titles?
Did Anet promise you anything if you did?
Did they entice you into getting them?
Again! nope, nope and nope!
This would be like Superman asking Metropalis for a medal and asking for 5 days off a year, and minimum wage for rescuing the city every day.
JeniM
yey so Jeff the Pheonix can be in GW2 ^ ^

Let's think about the Hall of Monuments and how it could work in GW2.
We can support ANet this way, I am quite sure they have only a vague idea how to do this.
First, should it give people tiny ingame advantages?
I do not think so.
Should it be purely cosmetic, just give fancy titles?
How would inheritance work? Can only one of my Chars in GW2 inherit the "Legendary Guardian" title, or all?
How many weapons can I pass down? My warrior has a truckload of weapons, my Ranger dozens of bows.
Is the number of weapons I can pass over to GW2 related to the titles of my Char?
Does only the char with the most titles "count"? Or do individual titles count? If I have three times a "Protector of..." do i get 3x the benefits?
Actually, the more I think about this hall of monuments, I get the feeling it is going to be a good idea that backfires and pisses more people of than making them happy.
I have the feeling it cannot be much that can be transferred. We might not be able to transfer weapons simply because the skin does no longer exist in GW2. We might get a ticket for a "legendary ascalonian weapon" or so.
Will we be able to transfer the whole bunch of Minis? Or will we get a special new minipet for having this or that title?
Actually, a simple monument with a list of achievements and maybe some special minis for a title would be nice.
But I already see people whining. If the "Kind of a big deal" titles give extra rewards, it rewards people who focus on one char, e.g. those who play more than one char might feel forgotten and disadvantaged.

Dont care much for material stuff being passed onto gw2 but I think every max title your character has should be transfered in some way ( almost at 25 now on my necro
).
What benefits we actually get in gw2 from these max titles will hopefully just be cosmetic, god knows some people would spit fire if it was more.
Account titles are a different matter really, some are virtually impossible to max and as such should be able to transfer over benefits of certain magnitudes to gw2 depending on their rank.
Simply put, each maxed character specific title should give something unique to your linked gw2 character. Nothing that would give unfair advantage, its a new game after all. Account titles give the same, just whatever they entail to your gw2 account should vary with the level of the titles.
A bit long winded lol but I think this would serve to appease those of us that have many many titles without antagonising those out there that dont work on titles and cry like babies whenever anet rewards us rofl.

I only do it for fun. It's kinda cool to have a goal; otherwise I'd just be out there farming scaled loot (Loot drops that have been diminished, not gold with actual scales on them). And when I'm cruising around in DoA and people ask me to wear my LB title I reply "Bah!, LB...don't need that noob..People Know Me"
Soul of the Scythe
I believe that you should get rewards for your titles in GW2. You put the time and effort in, you should be rewarded. I'm not saying give them Uber items and crazy amounts of gold or something outrageous or anything like that but something fitting for the time and effort put in would make sense. An exclusive Mini of your character that has the most titles would be cool.(in cases of a tie, the oldest one, or heck just a mini of your oldest character)
Not giving a reward for people's time and effort would be the worst idea ever. I'm tired of people complaining about grinding and how the titles are not for the casual gamer, which is true, they aren't, but what makes you think that you should get, or not get, the same rewards as someone who plays twice as much as you and done twice as much as you have in the game? They deserve more because they play more, simple as that.
^That is just ridiculous. As someone mentioned before, you were promised nothing for putting all the effort in and playing about 5 1/2 hours a day(on average), so why were u disappointed when you got a Fungal Wallow? What you thought after all that time, you would get a Bone Dragon or Something? Hah This thread is about rewards for titles in GW2, not in GW1. The rewards for the titles in GW1 are explained by myself in a previous post on this thread.
