What have I missed?

quite a bit, mainly bad things, just assume all changes have been for the worse and there is no reason to return.
run away while you still can.

dudehere120
really that bad? can you elaborate just a little bit?
mlandry
There really hasn't been that much changed : Hard Mode has been introduced, really fun to play as long as you got a guild so you can get groups
Soul Reaping has been nerfed pretty badly, you can just check guildwiki for the new stats, I don't know them.
Other than that, it's basicly the same game except for a few skill balances... I guess Juicey is just being a bit stupid I think

People are going to tell you to read the updates on the guildwars.com page.
The updates wolnt tell you:
(1) Pvp is pretty much dead
(2) Farming is nerfed, & pretty much dead (save your gold!)
(3) You cant get a full group to do anything in PvE
(4) Guild wars 2 coming out in less than 2 years, and all of Anet's hype and resources are dedicated to that game, not this game.
(5) The Soul Reaping nerf is in the updates, but the updates dont tell you that necromancers are not fun to play anymore as aresult of the soul reaping nerf.

Eh, you migiht be best off saving your gold on keys if you have bad luck with chests, too. The lock picks are expensive for HM chests to boot.
Some people say the anti-farm code is gone. Some people say it is still here. So, you will have to judge that bit for yourself. But, there is a chart around here with a decent list of numbers which point it being gone. So, you might get golds to drop.

I would suggest playing the game and deciding if the changes are good or not yourself, rather than have others decide for you. You may like the changes. You may not.
Storage upgrade is great, Soul Reaping is livable (My chars are mainly Necro) and it is going to be changed again anyways, new second year mini-pets, party search screen, hard mode is great, new drops like tomes and passage scrolls etc...

2. farming is dead and yet there are almost 2 districts in Urgoz farming it..
3. hmm I guess that pug I finished nahpui quarter 1 hour ago must have been my imagination.
4. ANet is making gw2 AND an expancion to gw1 so your statment is false.
5. I started playing necro some time ago and have a lot of fun..
Instead of listening to ppl on forums just instal GW and check it.. you don't have to resub afterall...

Pvp is broken(Skill Balance Pee Ell Zee?),PvE is broken (Hardmode,great feature,no one plays it.) ,And Anet's banning Trade Chat spammers instead of bots.(which could be easily resolved by simply increasing the Character limit of the Party Search,but its Anet so it won't happen.)
Yeah.Pretty much a ripping of the fabric that is Guild Wars.

I was away a few months and came back to play Nightfall. Had a lot of fun.
The economy took a turn for the worse, and Heroes mean most outposts and towns have people standing around with a (4) over their heads. PUGs are a bit less common but you can still find them as before just fine. Hard mode is available now, with the possible pursuit of related titles there, but good luck finding PUGs for that. Next to impossible. Loot scaling and soul reaping updates have been very unpopular and farming isnt what it used to be.
Cant summarize without being way too general, so an sun said it best - just drop back in and have a look if you feel like gaming a bit and are curious how GW is doing.

Well, IMHO the game is not as bad as it sounds here. Sure, there are things that A/net needs to fix. I haven't played my necro since the nerf so I'm not sure how bad it is. Most people I talk to say it is OK and the people who are complaining alot just don't like it because it is a change. A/Net has said they are giong to make another change to it soon so I don't think that should be a reason not to come back. Everyone has focused on the negative, here are some positive things that have happened (PVE). Since you said 6 months I am assuming you haven't played nightfall yet.
* Nightfall was released
* Heroes were added
* More storage
* Hard Mode
* Tomes and Passage Scrolls introduced
* Party Search Window (It may not be used as much as it should, however, it still is better than nothing, and I have no problems selling things with it)
* New Titles were added (skill hunter was split up by region, legendary titles were added, sunspear, lightbringer, vanquisher, sweet tooth, etc.)
* Weapons and armor from Elona are now inscribable (more easily modified) and there are rumors that when GW:EN comes out (the new expansion) this will be extended to Cantha and Tyria.
* New mini-pets
There are alot of other things, but this is what I have off the top of my head. As someone else suggested, try playing again for yourself and see if you like it, don't take our words for it. A lot of people are only focusing on the negative which is a shame but a lot of people don't like change or the changes affected their enjoyment of the game so to each their own. I think if you haven't played for 6 months, you will probably enjoy the positive changes more than you will notice the negative. Everyone enjoys (or dislikes) the game for unique reasons, the only way to know for yourself is to give it a try.

Didnt Gaile say in the spam ban thread that they reversed that particular ban? It wasnt a Trade channel ban anwyay - it was spamming of sales on the All channel - and not just trying to sell on the All channel but spamming multiple lines in succession. There's a difference between that and simply firing off a WTB/WTS every 30 seconds or so on the Trade channel. I wouldnt blow that out of proportion. They should ban All channel sales spammers anyway, in the more extreme cases.
