Smiting, armor ignoring damage or not?
Paragon Of Myrodin
I have heard some say that smiting skills are always armor ignoring and others say that it is not. So I just wanted conformation of which is right before I go buying skills for my me/mo spiker, and if just a few are armor ignoring what are they. Thanks for the help.

It does not ignore damage, it just reduced armor to 60. Look at Judge's Insight, see the description[skill]judge's insight[/skill]. JI has 20% armor penetration, if there were no armor, then that would be useless.

That skill has nothing to do with doing damage to a target directly, thats to help an ally melee character to deal more damage and therefore is not applicable to the question I asked. I guess I was a little unclear, I was talking about direct damage skills like spear of light or bane signet. Are skills like those armor ignoring? Or do you mean that all armor ignoring damage just drops armor level to 60?

Armour-ignoring is kind of a vague term in GW...
It's best to say that Smiting Prayers that do direct damage, like Bane Signet and Spear of Light, deal the listed damage regardless of armour (well, the ones that deal holy damage - Zealot's Fire can be reduced, like normal Fire damage)
If your Sig says it does 62 damage, then it'll do 62 damage regardless of whether the target is a lvl 29 Bladed Aatxe or a lvl 0 Aloe Seed (unless the target's undead, in which case damage is doubled)
Also, the damage from smites is increased by Lightbringer ranks.

Ok that is exactly what I wanted to know, thanks Stormlord.

Sorry for not being clear in my post. As Stormlord pointed out, holy damage does damage as stated (except for some necro armor that increases that damage and against undead). But it does not ignore armor, it makes armor = 60 AL. [skill]Balthazar's Form[/skill][skill]Signet of Judgment[/skill][skill]Bane Signet[/skill], etc. do holy damage, and thus does damage as stated.
I used judge's insight to illustrate that damage turned into holy damage makes AL = 60 and with the 20% armor penetration, it will do even more (based on weapon). The illustration is that it doesn't ignore armor, it makes armor at a default base (60).

The smiting direct holy damage skills are armor ignoring, which means they'll deal whatever is listed in the skill description. Some other skills that aren't direct damage may change the person's damage type and/or add damage/penetration. Smiting direct other damage skills (zealot's fire) are not armor ignoring, since it's listed as fire damage.

Not only for the smites also to another kind of ignoring armor.
From wiki:
The damage bonus does apply to certain armor-ignoring damage types (such as that dealt by Energy Surge) but not to others (such as that dealt by Illusionary Weaponry). As a rule of thumb (but with exceptions), damage caused by an immediate effect of a skill will be boosted, but damage which is indirect in some way (e.g. as a result of a Hex or Enchantment) will not be affected.
Also too:
Skills causing holy damage ignore armor except for Lightbringer's Gaze.
Holy damage deals double damage to undead creatures, such as minions. It also deals double damage to a few non-undead creatures, such as the Phantoms in the Ring of Fire Islands.
