Memories From an old Pro,
Agent Mold3r
i remember my first guild, all we did was explore remote areas such as dragon's gullet, twin serpants lake, ect, for fun, and tried to find cool hiding spots and camping spots where we journeyed to, and just talked, it brings back memories...
Griff Mon
I remember many of these things.
The monk strike in THK was the funniest, it was at the height of monk snootiness when THK was the ultimate noob filter with people making 10+ attempts before getting through. I don't know how many times I've been in groups scolded by monks for not doing things right up to their expectations just before they zone out.
Not until I started to play a monk who would have to chase Wamo's into the enemy aggro to keep them alive and then have them pitch a fit when I failed or got myself in trouble trying to save them from their own stupidity.
But the Runners Academy for the Droks run from Beacons Perch was something else. Not an official place mind you, but advertised on this forum and you had to contact the members of this guild in-game to arrange your training. You had to be a lvl 20 W/Mo with Superior Vigor and Absorbtion, and had to sport a certain set of skills including Mending and a Dolyak Signet. After paying a certain fee, you would be taken by the experts down the run and shown how to do it. Then you could charge people a small fortune for the run.
I did not participate in this particular piece of tutoring and the Drok's run has changed a great deal since then....

Started when GW Profecies went retail. Loved my Elementalist until they gelded him into oblivion. I loved taking on monsters 6 lvls above me and winning, going to a new town and there was noone there for several hours because noomne knew it was there, running the sanctum cay mission with my Ranger before they fixed the boat scene. Now all I do is log on to see if friends are there and talk a few minutes then log off. No fun anymore.

Oh, how fun and exciting the pve world was to me back then. The music and environment added with the nice graphics made the game such a nice thing to play. I'm suprised that I used to played for hours and hours everyday and ended up taking like half a year to finish the game on my first character.
Random arenas was a good memory as well. I spent a helluva lot of time playing it. oh yea, and I also miss the ol' login screen too =/. It had nice music along with it.

my first gvg as a level 16 ele with firestorm...and for that matter when gvg builds had some originality before observer mode :/

ahhh yeah, the prophecies opening theme.......I would like an option to revert back to that screen

I also remember the first time I beat prophecies. 3 of our group members dropped out as soon as we got into the mission area, but for some reason we kept going and beat the last mission. I was on my mesmer and i'm glad I decided to bring a perma rez.
I wish I would of added the ones that stuck with it, I wonder if they still play.

I remember Kyhlo before it was renamed Ascalon. Still have some screenshots!
I remember 100 Blades NOT being an elite
I remember Elites being "capturable" in the early game.
I remember waiting anxiously for the next "preview weekend" back in 2004.
I remember people waving their goodbyes and saying "cya next month!" when a preview weekend was over

There was this ... butterfly ... in pre-searing that I must have followed for a good twenty minutes, just because I was amazed to see it at all.

-i remember when the sup absorption were 100k, and sup monk runes were more than 20k each.
- i remember when every ele had fire storm.
- wen gold items had no mods and bonus

I also remember when Cyclone Axe triggered Zealot's Fire. Ah, the whammo days.

Hmm
Riverside E/Mo Smiting with my ele.
The Weird free chest just outside of Divinity that gave all sorts of odd bonus's
Running like hell from more than 3 charr with my level 6 Warrior
Hard Thunderhead keep
20/20 Rockmolders
The Magic Boxes in Dreadnaughts, that gave any item in the game(inc crys swords etc)
People actually forming teams in ToA to do quests
When Galrath was 500xp
My first droks run
Having to swap to America just to Get Shan's Fissure back in July 05
Seeing the Awe and majesty of the crystal desert for the first time
My first HoH win.
GW2 will be full of moments like these, and more.

I remember leaving pre-searing too early, because my friend was a bit ahead of me, and therefore got wiped by 4 grawls during a quest just outside Ascalon City. Made me think again abou how fast I wanted to progress in this game.
Or ending op in the Crystal Desert before I had seen the Jungle, because I had taken the shortcut by walking directly to Sanctum Cay. Even before the cartography title was released, I already was scraping walls, and I told to myself: "You are not leaving this Kryta-Area before you have mapped every little bit"

lol i rember when i got the game and my friend had a lvl 9 and i was like WoW!!! lvl 9 thats sooooooooo... cool now i have 6 lvl 20. and when random areans was actually fun and people didnt leave every second. when a green sword sold for 100k and when i got one i thought i was heaps good. when people actaully did the missions not run them. when getting to lvl 20 was actually something fun not 10hours of killing the same guys again and again. when people that took 4 skills in pvp wernt noobs. when every1 wasn't getting called noobs. when a lvl 14 was alloud in a pvp battle in TA. when a lvl 14 beat a lvl 20 ele... when eles used flare and owned... when people talked and when they talked it was friendly...
Blackhawk
I remember when my friends list and guild roster actually had more than a couple of people online, and people weren't so rude in towns.

I remember getting to post-searing Ascalon and charging right out the portal and having my behind handed to me by the devourers outside and afterwards deleting my char and creating a allmighty W/MO
I also remember starting the game from runescape and thinking " My god this game is probably gonna be my one and only game" .
Well, it wasn`t
Oh and i also remember being called a n00b for the first time because of my bad spelling

Oh wow you guys, this really brings back memories.
I really remember my first character. I was a R/E because the book claimed that they could dish out elemental damage along with have a pet. I always brought firestorm with me. Then by the time I got to LA, I remember asking my guild whether I should keep using firestorm or switch to meteor shower. I was then baffled when my energy bar turned gray, I wondered if it was a bug.
The monk strike was the best, because of that I decided to make my monks. Yes monks, I have two monks now =D.
I remembered when I was trying to ask people how I could become a crafter to make money. I actually saved every item that dropped for me. 12-15 swords or random stuff that looked pretty.
I remember laughing at myself when I saw the price of a superior vigor (50k) and superior absorption (100k+). I also was baffled when my guildies were like yay I got my 15k armor. I was like huh 15k! for armor! wow I would be rich to have 1k. Then he told me it was 15k per piece. I thought he was joking.
I still miss the old loading screen. I really miss Old Tyria. The music, kryta, ascalon, and shiverspeaks.
Many people may critize newbs, but my god it was really fun being one. The world seemed so big and everything wasn't about builds, speed, and money but just adventuring.

Can anyone tell me what attribute refund points are as i was late into GW and didn't start playing till after factions.
Shanaeri Rynale
Every time you changed an attribute, either up or down it cost you a 'point'. When you ran out of 'points' you could'nt change any attribute anymore.
You earned more 'points' by gaining XP. I think it was 1 for every 250XP you got. I also seem to remember the maximum number of 'points' you could have was 24.
As you can imagine it led to some frustration, esp if you got stuck in an unworkable build.

My first ever Droks run was awesome, seeing the azure shadows and griffons at such high lvls and Southern Shiverpeak areas was cool.
I miss the old campfire login screen. =\ So many great memories from this great game!
My good ole' newbie days were probably the greatest and most fun time I've had!

Refund points
100k Sup Abs
Keyless chests (particularly the one RIGHT outside Grotto)
1.5k and 15k armors looked the same
ZF triggering on Cyclone Axe
RA Island with the shark
First Elite capture (Poison Arrow)
First 15k Armor (Druid's 15k when they put the skin in and dying it the un-saturated black)
Salvaging a +30 off an R9 15>50 Storm Bow (I still kick myself about that)
Seeing FoW Armor for the first time (Male Warrior and Female Necro)
Not knowing about missions and going on a "trek" from Ascalon City through the Northern Shiverpeaks with Henchs. I got Frostbound armor and had to look up a map, squinting at the details all the while getting lost and dying to those Gargoyle Mesmers.
Actually trying to farm Undead Horde and reaching 60 DP, rezzing, and hoping the villagers can save the town.
When I got 3 Sup Abs from Ettins and selling them 90k+.
Balthz Aura stacking and Lulu
Spirit Spam
No one wanting a Ranger when SF first came out (heh)
ToPK Greens (Victo's Shield and Axe) going for insane prices. Seeing the Ogre-slaying Knife for the first time.
Replaying Pre-Searing and feeling like a big man because I knew what was going on.
Reading that you can skip a part of the quest where you get Althea some gifts.
Restarting the Charr quest at that temple with the Ashes when I only have 15 DP.
Wishing I had Ranger Master Nente's armor.
Not know how charming an animal works in Pre-Searing.
Trying to cap Animate Bone Fiends in a Krytan quest, on my Ranger, but utterly failing.
Having my Ranger run as an MM.
Contemplating my Ranger skill bar in Bergen Hot Springs, since I had Backfire and Empathy on, and not knowing if I want to drop them or not.
Meeting Willa the Unpleasant for the first time.
Getting excited about going to the Ring of Fire Islands.

A great second birthday present would have been the old campfire login screen back for us old pro's =)

I remember when farming and title grinding did not dominate the game. People actually played together more.
Riot Narita
I remember when Europe hardly ever had favour, and on the occasions when it was wrestled from America/Korea... Temple of the Ages was packed out with people trying to join a FoW/UW party and get in there before we lost favour again.
Tahlia Tane
I remember the awesome login screen from Factions. Yeah. That was a year ago. Unfortunately I never experienced the original Prophecies login screen, or the original UI styles. The Nightfall login screen is atrocious. On a sidenote, Nightfall itself rocks.
Absinth187
Been playing since a couple of months after the retail release, but I remember thinking pre-searing was THE game. I remember getting to Ascalon for the first time, and seeing "WTS purple sword" and "WTS purple staff." I thought, "Why are people dying their weapons purple?!"
I remember taking about a month to get to level 20 on my first character (ranger) because it was fun to take your time. I remember not being able to get into a FOW group to save my life! And then creating a warrior so I could go, and then getting rejected by one group leader because I had pigmail on... Then I discovered griffon farming.
I remember the monk strike, and trying a dozen times before completing THK. I remember when people were selling "pink" and "white" dye. Attribute point refunds. When ettin rune farming first came out. The campfire login screen. Being so surprised that I captured an elite for my secondary profession. Wondering how people were typing out their health and energy so fast. Accused a monk in a FOW group of typing it when he pinged that he had 55 health. Unlocked chests. Pre- green weapons. Wanting a superior absorption so bad. How leet getting to Droks felt.

I remember when you couldn't salvage or ID items until certain amount of time after battle. Damn annoying it was too.

I havent been around since the beginning (playing for 20 months now), but I have some very fond memories, like being shocked after going post-searing . . . I had thought that the pre-searing map was the entire game map, and thought THAT was big, lol. Also, when I got to post, looking to buy absolutely every weapon I could, since there seemed to be so many, and then the first time I saw a max gold weapon, and being in awe of how much damage they dealt, and then later, the same with green weapons. I also remember my two Razorstone drops when I first made it to SF, when they were worth 100k+. I also remember the MM's with amazing numbers of minions, and starting my Necro for the single purpose of raising hordes of undead, just for the coolness of it. It has been sad seeing Necros get nerfed further and further, but I still have mine. On my first go through the game, with my mesmer, I beat the game without getting to the jungle, as I just sort of wandered wherever. Then going through the Jungle, after a Fow team politely suggested I finish the rest of the game, get ascended, and then try again for FoW. People seemed nicer, and not have all the GW info at my fingertips on wiki and such . . . I suppose I miss being surprised by new enemies, weapons and locales more than anything else.

Man I hated refund points.
And when people kept farming tengu because runes were actually expensive.

I remember sigils being 60k+
In a guild battle, you would also lose rating when a player died.
PUG were awesome.
me paying 10k for a monk in THK.
playing with guild members, because it was teamwork.
looking at warrior FoW, and thinking "is he God??"
all the old farming builds.
thinking "what game can compete with GW?"
all the old guilds that did gvg and rocked with original builds (seeing adrenaline spike)
you could play in HoH with pugs.
selling my superior vigor on accident to the merchant when it was 100k.
khylo.
the prophecies log in screen with the campfire.
there's so much more. people were friendly, and enjoyed helping other people out. Anet seriously needs to bring some stuff back, because GW is slowly dying, and hopefully EotN will change it.

Don't remember 100k+ sup absorption, but i remember them as 30K+, remember them as being all damage, not just physical
Remembering being surprised that Rurik died as skipped cutscenes
Not being able to get a group in desert with lvl16 E/Mo due to Cay run
Healing through Gates of Kryta with E/Mo whilst having friend tell me that I can't monk as I don't have Divine Favour
Having no idea what tanking was on my War
Not having any elites on any of my chars until Glint
Thinking how cool this game looks and how much fun it is. Only other game of same kind of type was EQ
Friend telling me that lvl 5 was a good level to go to post, so reaching lvl5 in a Necro, going into post (without collector armour), dying a lot, and deciding that it wasn't much fun. Not played a necro since. No real reason either

Hahah great thread, lots of things in here I haven't thought in a long time. Miss the old starting screen for sure.
Starting the day after release and pre-searing towns being packed.
Getting to Gates of Kryta with my ele and taking a good two weeks just farming lightning drakes with a guildmate.
Gryphon farming and subsequently getting 15k glads for my w/mo (a great day)
First trip into UW and talking to the ghost right at the start. Right away starting 2nd trip to UW on my expense!
The fun and frustration with PUGs at times.
Edit: Also how much trouble I had with my doppleganger when I first fought him. I tried changing my build and ended up with a really crap one and running out of refund points and having to go explore so I could redo my build again! heh.

Getting 15% DP because your pet just died.
Starting the game in Lion's Arch.
Oh those beta weekends were a blast! I would PAY to be able to play the maps as we used to have them in those free weekends in 2004

I remember going from being poor to going permanently over 100k from farming ettins back when sup absorption was 100k, sup vigor was 70k, and sup monk runes were 20k, and not many people knew about ettin farming yet.
I remember when green weapons were added to the game and after much effort and a long time, the first green I got was the one I wanted most - the yakslapper. I don't think I've ever been as excited about a drop.
I remember when I created my first character as a N/W because my boyfriend thought that health stealing and extra energy would be better for a warrior than strength and extra armor... I also remember thinking that my boyfriend was a skilled player at the time.
And I remember when everyone thought 10/10 sundering mods were amazing and paid large sums for them.
