Sound Bug

Alright, I've tried to play through this, but it's starting to bug me.

First off, this has not always been an issue for me. It started about a month or two ago.

Basically, Effects and Voice sounds don't play. I hear the occasional aftercast noise, or a sword click of someone getting hit by a grawl, as well as the backround music, but no other sounds. I checked my sound settings, made sure my effects sounds were actually on (which they were) and reset to defaults anyway. The only thing left for me to check would probably be my sound card itself, or some incompatibility with some sound update that happened some time in the past.

Unfortunately, I've run a blank as to how to check my sound card type, if anyone could direct me in the matter.
EDIT: After quadruple checking, my sound card is indeed a "Creative SB Live! Series (WDM)"

Thanks in advance.

Not sure about what version of windows you have, but I have windows xp media center edition. To find what sound card you have just go to start>all programs>accessories>system tools>system information. After the system information window comes up, look under System Summary for Components and click on Sound Device (if you don't see it, type sound device in the search box and click find next). It should tell you what you have and whether or not it works. Hope this helps.

Alright, thanks. Turns out I did know what kind of sound card I had, but it just totally didn't seem like the name of a card...

"Creative SB Live! Series (WDM)"

Now if I can just find out what in the world is wrong with my sound.

Try forcing direct sound instead of the new sound engine. To do this modify the path for your Guild Wars shortcut so it looks like this: "C:\Program File\GUILD WARS\Gw.exe" -dsound. I think it's -dsound to get back to direct sound but i'm not sure so correct me if i'm wrong.
