Soloing Guardian of Tyria with Heroes: Some Builds for you
Melody Cross
Hello
Yesterday I finally finished the Tyrian Guardian title track solo and I wanted to help other players like me to do the same.
I went through several builds before I finally finished everything, but most of them revolve around an ati-melee and lots of direct damage.
I had three builds that I used myself. I was a monk. I won’t post the picture thingies but just the build and names because I knew a lot of dial up users who solo and the pictures make loading really slow for them. I hope everyone else understands.
So, my builds were:
A ZB
ZB
Gift of Heath/Signet of Devtotion
RoF/Divine Spirit
Guardian
Dismiss Condi
Deny Hexes/Reverse Hex
Prot Spirit/SB
Rebirth
This numbers include runes: 12 or 13 in protection is preferred for this guy. That makes ZB heal for a lot. If you use Gift of health, you want to run around 11 in healing.
I never used superior runes for this build because in the 4 and 6 man teams its very hard to keep from getting hit.
I used this build in the early 4 man and 6 man parts.
An LoD
LoD
Dwayna’s Kiss
Ethereal Light
Heal Area/Words of comfort
Dismiss Condi
Deny Hexes
Holy Haste
Renew Life
I used this in the 8 man parts. I used a superior rune of healing because it is much easier to avoid getting attacked with 8 people. Don’t put too much in prot, but don’t go 20/20/3 either. Dismiss makes for a nice heal when you have your heroes geared to help you.
A BoonProt
RoF
Guardian
Dissmiss Condition
Deny hexes
boon
Offering of Blood
Necrotic Traversal
Rebirth
I used this when I wanted to cheat you can teleport on some of the maps to avoid a lot of the fighting or get bonuses.
I had three heroes that I used for almost the whole game. I tinkered with other builds, but these three did the best job. It was just for a few 6 man areas where you can teleport with corpses. It makes some of the harder bonuses easier.
The heroes I used most often were:
Talkora’s Monk and a half
Mo/Me
Leech Sig
Power drain
Signet of Disruption/inspire enchant
Deny hex/dismiss condi
Blessed signet
Mantra of inscriptions
Life Barrier
Rebirth
Its all the benefits of a two monk backline but you get a pretty solid mesmer too. Keep prot spirit on her and set her to guard mode and she is a very solid interrupter. Depending on the map you play on, you want hex removal or condition. Sometimes, you want both, and you can bring inspire hex to help you and it won’t hurt her energy. Usually, she had the two inspire interrupts and the enchant strip. That’s really helpful against monks (mark of prot is naughty when you are level 30 Anet…)
For Aurora glade its probably better if you give dunkoro the LoD build I showed and you barrier and run crystals while he heals the team. thats how I did it the first time anyway. make sure he has enchant strips though and that he has some interupts too. interupts are nice for him to have because they give him energy.
I used Olias just about everywhere. He had two builds
Fiend MM N/Rt
Summon Fiend
Flesh Golem
Verata Gaze
Malign intervention
Blood of master
Signet of lost souls
Death pact signet
Verata sacrifice
In places where things don’t steal your fiends too much and have lots of fleshy people, this build is really good. Just make sure he has 16 in death magic and you should be fine.
Minion Bomber
Summon bone minion
Jagged Bone
Death Nova
Blood of Master
Signet of lost soul
Death pact signet
Verata gaze
Malign intervention
If there are places where you will be standing around waiting a lot like THK or if there will be a lot of things to steal your minions or if there are well spammers and stuff taking your corpses, this is the better build to bring. Olias is a great bomber MM.
I have Malign intervention on both bars because its very important. Healers need to die quickly and if they can heal your damage like a level 26 can, they won’t. malign Intervention really messes up heals from monks or on eles or mesmers. It makes killing them faster, which makes it sooner that you can fight the other stuff.
Minions are also nice because the AI tends to target the weakest thing in your allies first. They are all weaker level than level 20 so AI goes after them, your “tank”. It’s a funny tank and it doesn’t always do what you want it, but it reduces the damage to your team, spreads bad hexes away from heroes and henchman who need to use skills. The MM is a really great build to run in hard mode, no matter what anyone says about soul reaping now.
The other hero I used was in every fight from start to finish. I never would have made it through with out him.
Master of Whispers.
He ran an SS warder build
Spiteful Spirit
Price of Failure
Reckless haste
Mark of pain
Ward of melle
Ward of stability/elements
Signet of lost souls
Rez sig
Micro manage his wards because he tends to mess up and use the wrong one at the wrong time. Other than that, the build is just mean! SS is AoE, and price and reckless make ward melee and guardian offensive spells almost. Mark of pain is really powerful if mobs try to cluster on you or you accidentally pull a second group. All the minions attacking them add up to lots and LOTS of damage with this spell.
I was running like a 15 in curse and 10 to 8 in earth magic. Your MM gives you plenty of portable energy.
A tip: Take out one of the wards for blood ritual if you are trying to cheat and you can have your necro team sac themselves to death. You don’t really need to sac talkora because even if she is half a map away from you she still gives you her protection.
The henchman I most used were
Dunham
Little Tom axe
Lyna (the protection monk) in 8 mans
Devona or orion in 8 mans
Um…whats his name; the necro hench man but only for beating Glint.
Dunham has crippling anguish for his elite which is nice for snaring monks so they don’t run so much. Stefan is ugly so I always used little tom :P and Lyna brings your most important skill when you LoD for 8 man teams: Prot Spirit. It’s a real life saver and for THK I took out holy haste for it and put some extra in protection.
You want the necro henchman for beating glint and take out olias for a broadhead arrow ranger. Dazed beats her up and grenths balance really messes with her, even in HM.
Well that’s a lot to read so I will stop now. I hope this helps some people. I know it is hard to find groups to play hard mode but it can all be soloed. If anyone has some questions about what I did one some of the missions, I can answer later but I hope you ask soon while it is still fresh in my head but I won’t write anymore because this is already 4 whole pages long in word.

Fine guide, though the title is misleading. This is not soloing, this is henching (or H&Hing, whatever you wanna call it)

I was a little dissappointed when i read your thread for the following reasons:
1. It could have been a bit more detailed and bigger.
2. u only give builds and not some strategics for missions.
3. u don't say anything bout the henchies u chose.
4. And, as mentioned before, the title is misleading.
But other than this, it was a fairly nice try.

Sorry. I didn't know the title was misleading. I don't think I could have done all the missions without henchies or heroes...
Um, Pericles? I do tell you which henchmen to bring.
The henchman I most used were
Dunham
Little Tom axe
Lyna (the protection monk) in 8 mans
Devona or Orion in 8 mans
Um…whets his name; the necro henchman but only for beating Glint.

If you are not a monk I recommend you still take the hero setup I suggest but take alesia instead of which ever build you are playing. If you are a warrior or dervish you don't need little tom because you are in the front line. Also you don't need little tom if you are running a sin tank build, but I don't know any of them since the nerfs...
If you are a ranger or paragon or not tanking assassin or then you don't need Dunham as much because they have good snares and condition degen. You also don't need him if you are a mesmer, but, well...
If you are ritualist you probably won't need alesia.
If you are a necro, just run one of the hero builds and put a hero in place of one of the henchmen.
That would probably work, but you would want to put protective spirit on talkora in place of the enchantment strip. You can bring the enchant strip since you are playing offensive stuff.
If you are a ranger, broad head arrow is good. If you don't like this build you could probably take the ranger heros and run a barrage/pet build. bring olias for the MM.
If you are a mesmer, MoR Domination is good
If you are a warrior, axes are good. Bring a run buff and some snares and deep would though. Crip slash wars are good too. If you don't like this build you can take Koss and Goren and make them and you W/R with pets then you can try to IWAY. Turn olais into a blood necro with order of vamp if you do for lots of extra damage and some healing. make him a N/Rt for four man teams and a N/Mo for 6 and 8 mans. For 6 mans you probably want alesia early and little tom. get lyna as soon as you can. for 8 mans add stefan and the ranger.
If you are a dervish wounding strike builds with conviction and enchants is a good build. And you can enchant strip easy. You’ll have like 100 armor if you do that and it will be easy for you to tank.
Command paragons would do okay because heroes and henchmen don't kite very well or often. gale+awe is good dazed for dangerous castors or monks. You could try taking norgu as a fast cast SF. Then you have 3 SFs and you can go fire prot. Just make sure they are all either Me/E or E/Me. Interrupts are great protection too.
I’m not too sure what to bring with a sin. The old assassin tanks were pretty good if you know your stuff, and I think there is a A/Me build that lets you keep shadow form up almost all the time. That would work really well with the SS necro…all those missed hits.
Rit lords or resto rits are good. Rit lords are good prot and extra fuel for the MM and SS necros. Resto rits are some of the best single target healers in PvE.
If you are an ele, I really do suggest though that you take the two SF eles with you and a fire prot paragon. 2 SFs are not too great but 3 and something that makes lots of things burn is a lot of damage. Make sure you bring orion if you do.
The best tip I can give is to take your time and pull any group you worry about even a little bit with a longbow. Its very easy to agro multiple groups with an MM hero.

You're a monk....not that hard to do a lot of missions when being able to heal and manage energy unlike heroes.
Melody Cross
The necros manage their energy very very good with soul reaping and their signet. talkora doesn't miss using blessed signet either.
I don't understand your comment Dragonious. Do you mean the henchmen? Alesia has Word of healing. it is a 5 energy heal and really good with the buff Anet gave it. Lyna never had big problems with energy when I used her either. She cast spells when I needed her to.
I don't want people to think hard mode will be easy with this build. Its hard mode! But it can be done with this. the whole idea is to have one anti-melee and a bunch of damage reduction stuff for the castors.

You ever played a monk through PvE soloing with H/H? Doesn't sound like it
Try commanding your hench and heroes to attack while you heal.
Once you stop wanding a monster the NPC take that as a hint for a coffee break
good guide over all, my main char's a ranger and I find Broad head arrow to be the key to most places in hm.

SS and insidous own - duh.
but enfeeble + epidemic = all enemies weakened.
this with me monking and two SF heroes generally is my party setup unless the mission requires using a different type of build.

Just some comments on the SS build. Enfeebling blood would reduce damage from melee enemies way more than Ward Against Melee. I didn't realize how powerful that spell was until HM came out. Also, barbs with an MM is great. Long duration and quick recharge. Enemies drop fast! You also might want to consider BR. If you're running SF ele's or you as a monk get into a tough fight, a timely BR can be the difference between life and death.
To Nivryx, it's well known that heroes can't use echo at all. I don't like to micromanage every single echo + SS chain, especially while monking, so that build would not be suitable. Also, why bring enfeeble + epidemic when Enfeebling blood does the same thing with one skill?
I like to put enchant removal on my SS necro too, but I use rip enchant for the quick recharge.

I'll drop my Olias SS build that's taken me to Legendary Guardian and also Tyrian/Elonian Vanq.

Reckless Haste + Spiteful Spirit + Insidious = GG for any hard mode situations since all mobs(including casters) attack at a higher rate than normal and Reckless haste increases that speed even more which triggers SS at a insane rate. Enfeebling blood is really underrated in hard mode and it can be a god send when you are facing a large group of melee and range attackers. Rip enchants is there to help remove those annoying enchants mobs have from time to time such as healing hands or SoJ in Tyria. Rest is self explanatory.

Those enemies would have killed some dwarves outside, you saved them by lighting the beacons. That's bonus.

Hi, just wondering if you could assist myself and a friend who are having an awfull time on Del'assio Seaboard trying to save Confessor Dorian...
No matter what builds we bring the Confessor is being swamped with critters and skeleton mobs, and he isnt standing in the mending shrine either. We fight for maybe 20 seconds but it ends up with 3 groups of mobs at that point and poof game over. We even tried skipping the 4 critters killing the guard just before Dorian.
Any ideas would be most welcome. I am a monk, and my friend is a Ranger.

Take some serious Firepower for that mission, a MM helps stop the Wizards from overwhelming u with minions. Take out the group before Dorian asap and then run to him, get the monk to heal him so he doesnt Need to HEal Area (making it harder to kill the enemies attacking him) Kill the ones around him asap, and kill any monks that some into range asap too. Once the inital ones around him are dead he will move to the Shrine. Then it gets a little easier. Target enemy - Monks, Sorcerors, Mesmers, Wizards, Ghouls, Rangers in that order. You really Have to have high attack power here to plough through the enemies without getting overwhelmed.
When i did it, i had 2 rangers (me with Glass arrows and triple shot etc. and my guildy with Barrage etc.) a SH/AoE Fire Ele, a MM, a Healer and a Protector. Holy damage can be of much effect there too, if ud rather swap the Ele or one of the rangers out for Melonni with Avatar of Balthazar etc, or a smite monk.

SS and insidous own - duh.
but enfeeble + epidemic = all enemies weakened.
this with me monking and two SF heroes generally is my party setup unless the mission requires using a different type of build. Nice Build however you should pack [skill]Enfeebling Blood[/skill] instead of enfeeble and epidemic, that way you save 1 slot for another skill

Sorry but why are so many people using Recless Haste in Hm dont all monsters in HM have +50% attack speed?
And isnt the cap on attack speed 33% or 50% one of the 2 i think?
From what i can make out Reckless Haste is pointless in HM or am is their something you know that i dont?
I am only posting as i would like to know if Reckless haste is needed in HM.

Niila
Reckless Haste is just an AoE miss in HM, I really would take suffering instead of it, as every mob has 50% faster attack already.

TyVm Reckless Haste Not only Increases their attack spead, but add 15...43% chance to miss with attacks. Considering that the enemies in hard mode wallop on things for more damage its a definate help to have up a 43% chance for them to miss.

Any tips for Sanctum Cay? i don't know if it was that last update or not, but the imps can destroy your entire team in less than a second. After fighting the second set of imps, one of my Necroes was already at 47% DP
