ok, so i havent played guild wars in a month or two, and today i decided i would revisit the game, so i grabbed my CDs and installed it, let it patch and all, and then i booted it up.

the game screen flickers and freezes upon the log in screen. the music plays, but the background doesnt move and the screen keeps flashing black and then displays the frozen background. i cant even type in my log in info because its lagged so far back.

i've run this game before on this exact computer, with all the exact same hardware.

im thinking its graphics related... im using a fx5200 (128mb) with updated drivers, which is the same thing i've used when i played it last.

i have no clue what is wrong. i tried rolling back my driver and then reinstalling it, but nothing helps...

any ideas?

They've made tweaks to the engine here and there, try putting in the -noshaders tag (right click the shortcut, click properties, in the target field put " " around c:/..., and put a space and the tag you want on, in this case -noshaders).

There's many other tags you can play with, though the only other useful one might be to revert the sound engine (-dsound, or -nosound to disable it completely).

i just bought a new computer and am waiting for it to arrive in a week or so, but i would really like to play this game in the mean time. oh well.

let me know if you have other ideas

What are your other system specs on this machine other than the graphics card? Sounds like it could be a memory issue or perhaps the vid card is having a resource conflict of some kind. Did you run a -image switch after reinstalling guild wars?

You can also force directx8 by using -dx8, can't hurt to try it.
