Zoom Scrolling: Lost in a Sea of Complaints
Bankai
There are 3 kinds of fixes a game needs.
The first is big issues.
The second is smaller issues everybody is whining about.
The third is small issues that nobody ever noticed, but when it's changed everybody thinks it's better.

It is a bit annoying, nothing too major but I don't see why they made this change after so long for apparently no reason. It would be nice to make it changeable under the options page, if nothing else.

I think first person stuff should have a toggle in options.
I really hate the new "scroll more" stuff once you scrolled too much and entered first person mode by accident.
-> why can I so simply get into first person mode, but why do i need so scroll so much to get out of it?
Should there be no treshold that tells you "stop! scroll some more and you are in FPS mode!" to prevent people from entering FPS mode by accident?
The opposite is true, they can easily get into, but have to scroll hard to get out.
I agree to those who suggest a toggle. I must also agree to those who say ANet has SO MANY things that are important and worthwhile to fix, so why "fix" things that obviously were not broken. Who is the baddie who likes the scroll function like it is right now?

So, I accidentally ignored this thread and let it die, but since every single response here is either negative or, at best, apathetic, I think it deserves to stay as headline news long enough for Anet to notice it.
As has been stated, NOBODY plays exclusively in first-person mode, and if there's anyone out there that does, they sure weren't complaining about accidentally falling out of that viewpoint by touching their mouse wheel.
Most people don't mess with FP view at all, and those of us who do, swap back and forth during battle, which makes this "helpful" change to scrolling highly annoying.
My wife played the game the other day for the first time since the change, and it took her about five seconds to go, "Ew! What's wrong with my mouse scroll? This is awful!"
Put it back PLEASE! Nobody disliked it before, and now people do. Where's the sense in that?

I'd respond in the new Update thread that's already grown pretty large. Gaile has been taking some interest in it, so it maybe she'll see this annoyance and bring it to the Dev's attention.

i myself go in an out of 1st to 3rd a lot sometimes to look at others intown sometimes for screen shots ive even tried to play in 1st (an i would if there wasnt so many annoying flashes of lighst all over the screen, take those away for 1st person play an i would love to play in 1st view) yes i liked the old system better by far (and for those ppl who was 'inconvienced' by the fast switch from 1st to 3rd caused by the wheel u just need to change ur settings for ur mouse sesitivity on ur pc)
plz revert the mouse to how it was or add a toggle switch
thx

Really, I honestly wonder. Did someone on the Anet staff have a personal problem with this, or something? Not one gripe on this subject, ever, and still it gets "fixed".
"Fixed" like my cat is "fixed". >_>

This was an intentional change? I just thought it was because i was using a different mouse (with a wheel that more ticks than rolls - i never got around to trying to fine tune it). So, yeah, it would be nice if I could zoom in for a nice screen shot of my char, without suddenly poping inside her head.

My thoughts on this are with Mekkakats.. BOOYEAH!

I dislike the change too. I liked being able to seamlessly scroll from first person to further away, since it helped me find a good distance from my character easier. Now my view just gets stuck on first person, which is a bother especially during fights.
Toggle switch would be wonderful. Please bring back the old way of scrolling!

The reason I used first person is because it's the only camera mode that lets one look up! Allows one to get a better view of the scenery. Unfortunately, it's not very useful for actually playing, so I switch out of it when I run back into battle. The new update is a minor annoyance to my sightseeing.
Zappa
Yes, this should be more useful than an increase in party search string size...

I thought or assumed this issue was more specific to how the game worked on my system and my mouse (after one of the updates). I even bought a new mouse because it was so annoying. The problem still occurs, but not so often with the new mouse. I didn't realize it was associated with the scroll wheel.
I'm stunned that it's an intentional change, and I'm also stunned that it's either not fixed yet or that the issue has gone unnoticed by ANet.

I too find this "improvement" annoying. Please bring back the old way.

This improvement was horrible.
I play Guild Wars on a laptop, just because I'm more comfortable with it.
Now I have this horrible excuse for a mouse, so I just play using my touch pad. With the 1st person update, sometimes I get stuck in first person. I normally can just scroll out with my touch pad, but now I can't, and I have to find my mouse and plug it in and viciously scroll back on the wheel just to get myself out of 1st person. And sometimes I don't have time to get that mouse during play, like this one time I got stuck in 1st person during the fight with Abaddon. And since you have to keep running in that mission, I really didn't find the opportunity to get my mouse.
Please take away this change Anett :[

This latest little gem from Anet seems to typify thier stance on ''updates'' by creating a problem, that did not exist before, for the love of Christ ,Anet if it aint broken dont try to repair it, ( has flashback to SR ''update'')
This is plain bloody awful try to adress the larger fixes that really do need fixing rather than tinkering with something that was working perfectly, someone at Anet needs a large handful of wasps shoved up thier arse for this one.

I also dislike this change. It servers no function other than to irritate people that want to get into 3rd person.

+1 to "change it back".
A much better change would be a "lock zoom level" hotkey or option in the F11 menu. This would also allow those who play at other than the default zoom level (such as myself, who prefers to play at 2 clicks above 1st person instead of the default of 4 clicks above) without having to set it every time they log in.

I knew I should've included a poll in this thread.
Seeing "I like the change" get exactly zero votes would've been fun.

Now, can we please, please, PLEASE have a simple toggle for this stupid zoom scroll? (Or just get rid of it. Nobody likes it!)
Yep, I'm not going to forget about this. It's too small an issue with too many people hating it and nobody liking it. It needs to be addressed.
