So, with the incorporation of Elite Tomes into the game, I speculate that noob island can be done faster now due to the use of elites!
Although it is a small increase, some players will try anything to gain even the slightest advantage in this game, so I thought we could list some good elites to start off with for each profession.
Warrior
Ranger
[skill]Burning Arrow[/skill] - Powerful, effective elite.
Monk
[skill]Glimmer of Light[/skill]
[skill]Light of Deliverance[/skill] - Two decent heals
Elementalist
[skill]Savannah Heat[/skill], [skill]Sandstorm[/skill] - a guildie told me that these were good to run on the island, but I have no idea how they really are, SH if you are going fire and Sstorm if you are running earth
Mesmer
[skill]Hex Eater Vortex[/skill] - We hates Imagined Burden, don't we my precious?
[skill]Mantra of Recovery[/skill] - Good catch-all elite.
Necromancer
Paragon
[skill]Anthem of Fury[/skill] - "I've grown to love this skill...especially in low level places. Cast it, use an energy-based attack such as spear of lightning, then you'll have charged up enough adrenaline to actually get off a decent skill before the low level enemies die. A fun elite for me anyway" (Celestial Beaver)
Dervish
*Note: I did not include assassins or ritualists b/c usually they already have access to elites before they come into NF. If by demand they be added, I will, but not now.
So post some good elites to use by specifying what class, the name of the elite, and general purpose/why its good if you can. We'll see how this turns out..

I've not touched on Factions or Prophecies skills...there are MANY good ones, but I've tried to limit my choices to Nightfall / Core skills

I don't know many good skills for the noob island that are not already listed, but I know a few that definitely should not be chosen for the noob island.
Searing Flames (only you until sousuke, and that's just gonna suck)
Shockwave (AoE, watcha gonna do? run into a big group of skale blighters and cast it once?)
The smiting line might be good, but idk yet.

How can you forget
Nerco:
Spiteful Spirit - Doesn't require explanation (Non-Nf and Non-Core)
Animate Flesh Golem - MM rules PvE (Non-Nf and Non-Core)
Dervish:
Avatar of Melandru - No conditions
Avatar of Balthazar - Fake Warrior, high amour
Vow of Silence - Great for survival
Monk:
Healer Boon - Good for team
Light of Deliverance - Heal for party, spammable
For the ele, AoE Nuke is beyond godlike in PvE normal mode. They do not scatter anymore and they do insane damages. Just aggro all the creatures to 1 point and nuke them away.

I wouldn't use the Avatars on Istan for Dervish. For a start they're a complete waste since all the Avatars are about the first things you can cap when you reach Sunspear Sanctuary, and they scale with Mysticism. Without lots of attribute points you'd just have a low level Avatar that wouldn't last very long.
I'd say go with Reapers Sweep or Wounding Strike, spammable deep wounds will be more useful than a downtime of about 60-80 seconds on the Avatars if you aim to have any decent amount in Scythe too.
