Rarest of the Rare
Zeander
Is there an ulitimate super rare item that maybe has only dropped a few times in Guild Wars history? In the game I used to play, there were a few such rare items that you could track through different players back a couple of years. Getting one as a drop was practicaly a life chaning event, LOL. So I'm just curious if Guild Wars has anything like that.
Pyro maniac
well, not the skin. But weapons in tyria can have much more different mods, like shields with +1 death magic and -2 dmg while enchanted + -2 while in stance
Those mods are rare, and some of them may have dropped only once (let's say a r9 skull shield with both +1 death magic 20% and +1 curses 20%)

Diddy bow
The +xx unconditonal items are definetly the "rarest of the rare" they dont drop anymore, and even non max ones sell for a huge ammount of gold.
Star Gazer
crystalline swords and elemental swords

Enko
crystalline and elemental swords aren't the one of kind thing the OP's looking for. probably the only thing that qualifies for that are the +xx% dmg unconditionals (especially the Serpent Axe that has that).
There's other items in the game that are in very limited quantities but they were rewards or gifts from Anet such as the Mini Kanaxai of which there are only 26 in the game or the Mini Vizu which there are only 29. The Everlasting Beetle Tonic was also a reward to the Celestial Tournament winners as well as those who guessed results correctly and which there are only 31 in the game.

Diddy Bow is right about the unconditionals.
Way back at the start some items from unlocked chests (Arid sea?) dropped as Vampiric or Zealous with -1 health degen or energy degen as the damage mod. The -1 mods didn't stack with the prefix mod and replacing the suffix meant that the weapon would just have unconditional/no-negative damage. [Disclaimer: This is what I'm lead to believe but it may not be accurate]
There are some req.7 15%^50% weapons and perfect req.7 shields which are very rare and people are happy to pay lot for them.
Before HoH items were made inscribable I remember seeing one guy selling a req.8 15^50 Crystalline Sword in the high-end forum here. People began offering real money for it too much to the disdain of the forum moderators. I think it sold for 7 stacks of ecto.

Tried looking it up on Wiki without much luck, so can someone explain unconditional items to me please? What makes it so special? For example, I have bow grips that are +30 health that I guess are unconditional. Little confused here.
Juno Onuj
the damage mod would be like 15% while health is above 50%, the condition is that your health is over 50%. An unconditional weapon might have damage +15% with no condition for this extra damage.
HawkofStorms
Yes, unconditonal weapons are incrediably rare. A large number of them are owned by Herbalizer (around 10), a forum regular who is pretty much the richest player I know.
The other item that is like this would be the exclusive minipets. There are only 8 Kanaxi mini pets in the world for instance.

-Damage +15% (While Health is above 50%)
-Damage +15% (Versus Hexed foes)
-Damage +20% (While Hexed)
-Damage +20% (While Health is below 50%)
or mods with a negative such as:
Damage +15% (Energy -5)
Damage +15% (Armour -10 While Attacking)
Damage +15% (Energy Regeneration -1)
Damage +15% (Health Regeneration -1)
An Unconditional weapon is simply:
Damage +15%
There are also, 12%, 13%, and 14% undconditionals which do fetch a large sum of money yet +15% is the real jackpot.
Lauryn

Of all the newbie mistakes I could have made lol
Mr. G
other than unconditionas theres aways the everasting beete tonic (ony 36 last count) or the greased lightnining (100 me thinks)
I can happily say i own a tonic
I can happily say i own a tonic
Aera
There's one last unconditional for sale right now...( can't find the link anymore ) going for 8 mil or something.
Also.
Character: It's Req.10... not Q10.
Guild: My Q10 sword kills people and firms skin.

I love you man, the avatar fits perfectly, too.

IMO rare or not....it's kinda oogly....why all the interest in this skin? Just because of the rarity? Curious is all...
Coloneh
@OP Im not sure what game you used to play, but with the info you gave us it sounds like a much smaller game. in a community as big as guild wars even rare items are given out by the hundreds.

Is there a list of rare/expensive things somewhere that we can have a look at for quick reference?
I won't be surprised if I've sold things to a merchant that I didn't know were actually worth a lot to other players.

best place to learn about rare items and items of high value is to browse through the high end forum and the price check forums....here on GWguru ;P
summer_goth
Thanks Coridan.
It'll be great if someone with enough knowledge about this will make such a list though. There's such great help for almost everything except this.
I have to admit though that I've been a bit lazy in looking.

i think colossal scimitar is a pretty rare thing... in the wiki it is described as being rarer than elemental and crystallines....
i have only seen one being WTS...
i have only seen one being WTS...
tommarrow
I see colossal scimitars being sold almost everyday, can't be that rare.
The Herbalizer
Hope this helps:-
R7 Hammers:
Only seen one max damage one which was R7 15>50 Spikey Warhammer
R7 Axes:
There are like 4 of them I think. R7 15 -5Energy Hand Axe, R7 15% Enchant, R7 15>50 War Axe, R7 15>50 Cleaver
Staff Wrapping:
All it says is Staff Wrapping. Only a few around.
R8 15>50 Crystalline Swords:
Very very few of them. I have personally only seen 4 of them but have been told there are quite a few more.
R7 Shields:
Not ultra rare but rare nonetheless. Dual damage reduction ones are not that rare e.g. -2-2. The rarer ones are the +XX Hp -X Dmg.
HOD Hammer / 55 HP Hammer:
Only seen one of them ever which is mine.
Unconditional Weapons:
Only number a few dozen and most are on inactive accounts now. A fair few are customized too.
There is also the following but I cant find screens of them atm:-
R 14% Warhammer (Rams Hammer Skin)
R 12% Cleaver
R9 14% Flamberge
R9 14% Falchion
R7 15>50 Brute Sword:
Only seen two of them and one is customized.
R9 15>50 15-5 Energy Crystalline Swords
Only a few of them around.
R8 15>50 Dwarven Axe:
Only seen one which sold for I think 1000 ecto ages ago.
+7 (I think) Energy Axe:
Collectors item whch no longer available. Only ever seen one.
-50 Hp Healing Req Grim Cesta:
Not that many of them around.
No Req Gold Raven & Ghostly Staffs:
Personally only seen like 6 or 7 of them. Nothing special but look cool.

I don't think any item that currently drops can be considered "Rarest of the Rare"! Sure, there are some nice expensive stuff out there (Crystallines, Mini ghostly, mini mallyx, etc.), but any item that can be gained by going to X Area, killing 10-400 of X monster (or player) and collecting the reward is not considered to be in the same rarity bracket as the stuff Herbalizer mentions.
Even if the drop rate is soo incredibly low that perhaps only 1 in 1000 folks that complete the above task will win the item, with hundreds and thousands of players completing the task each day, these items will eventually become commonplace. They will probably always be rare and expensive, but not the type of rare that you are asking about.
No, this level of rarity will always be reserved for items that are no longer obtainable in game. (Unconditional weapons, tattered cloak, Golds in pre, mini beetles, etc) There is a certain number of the item available and that's it. No more are coming. If this is an item desired by many players then the price tag is high.
For example, the mini beetle was awarded a few months ago to champion beetle racers. I'm not sure if 500 beetles were awarded or only 100. Let's say there were 500 for the sake of argument.
The day after the beetle races close there are 500 beetles ingame.
Some get accidentally deleted.
Some accounts with beetles are banned.
Some beetle winners get bored with the game and uninstall and go to WoW.
A month later there are 470 beetles in game.
2 months later - 468 beetles
3 months later - 460 beetles
A year later - 430 beetles.
You get the picture. Unless A-Net awards more beetles, the price tag and rarity will only go up on these items.
Same thing with the Tattered Cloak. When the item dropped in game there were thousands of players with this item in their inventory. It's a useless item though so most players deleted it. Now only a handful exist ingame so it's a valuable (yet still useless) item.
It's the same economic principle that allows Action Comics #1 to sell for thousands. When it was first issued it sold for 10 cents and there were thousands of copies around. 70 years later there are perhaps 5 copies in good condition and a few dozen more in crappy condition.

Milennin
Do Unconditional Weapons still drop, or are they discontinued...?
HawkofStorms
As pointed out a while ago, they no longer drop Milennin. They didn't really "drop" either, but were created with a bug. They only droped for like the first 3 weeks of the game.

A req 7 unconditional crystalin, max. If it existed, it would go for inconcievable amounts of money. Even if herb sold all her weapons and farmed ectos and black dyes and rubies and diamonds for the rest of gw she still wouldent be able to buy it. How's that for rare?
summer_goth
Thank you very much for the list The Herbalizer. It's exactly the kind of thing that I was looking for.
Very impressive!

I just wanted to say to herbalizer about 1.5 years ago or so I remember a req7 15>50 mursaat hammer was sold on the high end forums. The trick to making unconditional weapons was as follows get a +xx% weapon and it had to have -1 health regen as the minus then you added a vampiric mod then removed it which then made it unconditional.

Well...
What I was told originally the gold weapons when ided had a -1 energy or -1 Hp inherent damage mod. They either dropped with zealous or vampiric mods or had them added. Back then as far as I know they would only show -1 energy regen or -1 Hp regen when the inherent mod and mod is present instead of -2 energy regen or -2 Hp regen. When a new mod was added e.g. sundering the conditional inherent damage modifier disappeared.
I cant remember how the degens stacked back then it was either something like this: -
Zealous Weapon
Dmg + 15%
-1 Energy Regen
-1 Energy Regen
Or something like this: -
Zealous Weapon
Dmg +15%
-1 Energy Regen
Then when a new mod was added they became: -
Sundering Weapon
Dmg + 15%
I asked the owner of the last unconditional weapon I bought who had it since it dropped for his guild how it became unconditional. He said he wasnt 100% sure but he thought that they didnt replace or add any mods. He said how their -1 energy & hp regen, -10al and -5 energy weapons just became unconditional. Pretty reliable source considering at least 5 unconditional weapons have been found by that guild including imo the two best ones.
Im not sure how accurate the second theory I have is as the person who found the Zealous Serpent Axe in the top right of the unconditional picture changed the mod to an elemental one and it just became +14% lending support to the first theory. Maybe he added the Zealous upgrade after it became unconditional as I bought an axe owned by him and it had Zealous on it too so maybe he like that mod...
