Boycott Anet

Hello,

As the title says I am calling for a boycott of anything Anet or NcSoft.

I have played guild wars for the past 17 months and spent over 2000 hours on my characters. Recently they banned my account without giving me a reason and looking at the forums I see that this has been happening a lot. So I emailed asking for explanations to my account banned. They replied that I was using a bot. I said that I wasnt and how could I get my account back. This was there reply

This shows very poor customer relation and a lack of integrity on Anets part. Because of this I am asking for a boycott of anything that Anet or NcSoft makes.

How about before you incite a mob, you copy and paste the other e-mails so we can see the reason they banned you? I've never seen a time they did not give a specific reason to why you were banned. In the other threads, atleast the people were accused of using bots and third party programs.

So, since I have the three chapters, you're saying not to buy GW:EN when it comes out?

they have very good customer service as i have found out on several occasions

If you look at the original post I said that there was no reason given untill after I emailed them, then they said I was using a bot (which I have never done). Here is the entire set of emails between me and Anet.

When can I expect the next response? After reading the forums (specifically guildwarsguru) I notice that this has actually happened quite a lot recently. I do sometimes farm an area for 2 or 3 hours straight but that is not a violation of the EULA or the rules of conduct.

I am NOT using a bot program. Please give me my account back. How can you say I am using a bot program? Is it because i play a lot and therefore have a lot of money? If so well lots of people play a lot and have a lot of in game money. Man this is sooooo frustrating. Please give me my account back.

In response to your question about the termination of your Guild Wars account for the use of a bot program, we want you to know that we use great care when analyzing accounts prior to terminating an account. We are both diligent and conservative in determining which accounts are botting, and we take action only after we are able to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that an account is using a bot program.

We do not have an appeals process for this action because of the depth of the analysis prior to the termination. We regret the necessity of terminating accounts, but we will continue to take all necessary actions to protect the Guild Wars economy and to assure that players are meeting the requirements of the User Agreement and Rules of Conduct.

My account was banned and I want to know why it said I had a code 045. I have spent many hours playing this game and it is very frustrating having my account stolen from me from the company that was supposedly having me play there game. If there was misconduct on my part I want to know what that misconduct was.

K, have fun with that and since you can't give me all yer stuff I won't ask for it.

A boycott might be a little much wicked, but this might be a good thread to start getting everybody who has been banned "mistakenly", "wrongly", or "injustly". I know wicked (he's in my guild or perhaps was is the better term) and the charge was botting. I am positive he has never botted before. Does it make sense for a bot account to buy two sets of FoW armor? Do bot accounts go HAing with their guild 5 nights a week? Wicked is just a very good farmer who likes his money in cash as opposed to the fluctuating ecto prices. The only time I have known him to be away is when he was farming lucky/unlucky title (which was worthless and not illegal) and the rest of the time he has been on vent with us. Bots dont talk. kkthx

Dont mind me being a skeptic (sp?) but half the time people truly do bot. I dont know if you really did bot and neither will anybody else on guru sans Gaile Gray. You can try pming her though I wouldn't expect a response due to her being a busy women.

He was just farming MS, and I got banned on a different game unjustly for them thinking I was a bot for the hours I played for the first few days it was released. Get that? I was innocent and they knew it and righted their wrong. I won't expect any different from this game when they do mass bannings, they could tag some people that don't actually bot.

But making a thread here is no good, these people here won't believe that you're actually innocent. As you can see from some posters, but I do agree that boycotting isn't exactly the right thing to do or way to get your account back.

Honestly, I think if you would have went about it in a different direction you could have probably gotten your account back like many of the other users here and probably pretty much problem free as well.

Now I know there's no way to tell what you sent in to Anet and what they sent back as text can be altered to make it look like you're the good guy, but honestly we don't know.

I don't know you, but it seems that Anet's response is a good one. Instead of instagating yourself into a royal problems which may or may not insue legal issues, why don't you just simply find a new game to play? You dont have to support Anet/NCSoft by purchasing their products.

But honestly I don't see that you'll get very far with your "boycotting" there's simply too much money to be had, and I highly doubt that you're a mutli-millionaire whom can afford a long standing legal battle.

You'd have a better off chance of just telling your friends/family to not purchase their products than to hop onto the internet and trying to convience millions of people that you had 1 bad dealing with a company so they are the devil and to never use them again.

I've personally dealt with Anet/NCSoft via support many times and have never had any problems with the stuff I needed, So I personally WILL NOT boycotting the company, I simply believe it's the way that you present yourself that makes it easier for companies to deal with the customer.

But what I gather from what the response said..
To me that means you've been harassing the company and support, so you've got no sympathy from me.

And for my personal opinion, you need to work out your "people skills" because many people have gotten their accounts unbanned and many people have never had a bad dealing with the company at all. You probably would have gotten better results if you would have simply sent into support that there must be some kind of misunderstanding, and from there see if you could have gotten your account back.

Anyway, I also know that we're not getting the entire story here. You my be entirely innocent, in which case this sucks. Keep in mind that it's possible your account was hacked and used for botting. Does this sound possible? How exactly do you think that you appeared to be a bot?

Also, you apparently threatened to sue them, which sound particulary hopeless, because:

A)If you win, they'll be liable for what, 150 bucks?
B)The EULA states that they can do whatever they want with your account, whenever they want, whyever they want.
C) They're apparently sure enough of their evidence to call your bluff.

Right now, I am getting a little worried. I saw him mention something about being logged in for extended periods of time as a criteria for banning someone operating on the assumption that they are botting. One guy in a pre-searing forum mentioned that he had been banned for botting and according to him all he was doing was death-leveling to get to level 20 in pre-searing for the Legendary Defender of Ascalon Title. I don't know if this is a legit complaint but it was a stated complaint.

So, if this is true, we have Anet putting out a title for people that requires them to stay logged in for hours on end to obtain in an AFK mode to get a title. Then they use their bot-screening process to ban the person because they are logged in too much? I have a character in pre and I set them up for death-leveling almost every night and then come back in the morning to my one kill that gets me experience points. I will have to do this for a while yet. Will I find myself banned for trying to get a title, the only possible way that it can be obtained? I may very well be logged on for over 100 hours a week at times, I don't know precisely.

If this is the case, I hope Anet has the good sense to look at the account and see if the user has a higher level pre-searing character before they just go off and ban the person.

Innocent or not, that's not the bigger issue.

What I'm interested in the coarse of legal action. Has anybody had a lawyer contact Anet. Has there been any court action? I hope so. A court of law has a nice ability to subpoena employees and records.

I would love to know; and I quote the cookie cutter response I see in all these threads:

Also, I might add to defer all the back-seat/armchair lawyers, that clicking a game's TOS, is not infact a legal agreement. Just because you clicked "I Agree", doesn't waive certain rights granted to the North American consumer.

Now war drumming aside, who is going to go to court or pay a lawyer's fees to command damages of a game worth only a few dollars? Then again, punitive damages were always easy for those in the US. :P

I am his guild leader and i am truly upset over what anet has done to him. I also like to farm for hours at a time. (Is my acc in jeopardy??) I know he does not bot because i always talk to my guildies. Especially him since he is my guilds bank XD and i am always pming him to borrow gold or for some of the builds he uses and or asking if he wants to ha or for help with builds, so them saying he bots is absurd. A bot does not reply to a whisper. If this is how they plan to treat people who like to show of there hard work visually instead of with a title then who is to say who is next to get banned?? If you find that nice perfect crystalline thats worth 8mil and you have most of that in gold in your storage then are you next? or maybe you like to just farm a particular green because its easy for you and quick cash, are you next?? Who is to say who may be next to get banned. According to there response, its anyone with a little extra cash and a lot of time on there hands who like to do a particular farm for hours at a time. Does it resemble bot activities?? Yes! Is it a bot? No! Im really worried that my preferred pveing time might get my account banned. I may not be the richest person in gw but i do have my fare share of 15k armors, and would be devastated if my account was banned after playing on it for 2 years. All your hard work gone. Just because you like to spend your free time farming a place thats good to you in rare drops. Personally depending on how anet handles the matter i will not buy anymore games made by them.

How come I managed to farm 28 million xp on my Mo/W and I was never banned for bot like behaviour?

Gaile has personally helped numerous people with account issues. I'm not sure if you have tried contacting her personally but a thread like this just begs for flames and as you can see, some have all ready started to drive it off-topic so it will be closed. Please try sending a friendly PM to grab her attention and see if she might be able to help you.
