Fourth of July event?

[OOP] Order of the Phoenix I

Hello to those who read this-

I was just curious if Arenanet had an event of any sort for the Fourth of July weekend in the past, and possibly in the furture. And I mean something more than just double GvG points; something on the order of St. Patricks day or Easter (I figure something on the order of Halloween or Wintersday is pushing it ). I was going to suggest in the Sanitarium that they have one, but I vaugly remember that there might have been some sort of event. At the time I was more concerned with neighbors burning down our house with fireworks than GW events, however....

Anyway, thought I would ask here instead of posting a post that didn't need posting in Sardelac.

4th of July is only an American holiday, won't mean much for anyone else.

Anet prefers to do international holiday events eg. Wintersday, Halloween and Easter which are celebrated in many different countries. I wouldnt think they would do a Independance Day event.

There should be no 4th July
Unless 5th November will follow

Last year the June 30 - July 5 period (which was a long weekend) was spent by the GW players at the Canthan Dragon Festival.

This year there is no long holiday weekend, as the holiday comes on Wednesday.

On topic, no, I doubt there'll be a 4th of July event, GW is an international game, and has events that are celebrated worldwide. Unless we also get a Guy Fawkes Night event too...

I would draw an analogy with St. Patrick's day. Perhaps we'll get some firecracker drops. Should work, as they could reuse the canthan new year items.

Europe isn't a country :P

on topic: no thanks, seems pretty useless, and ego-centric why not just have every country's national day be reason for special event, that way we'll have a reason to celebrate and get useless drops everyday

There go those sweeping generalizations again... nice.

Granted, most of us Americans don't have as much 'world view' as Europeans. (lots of reasons) But you don't have to make this into a war. :P

Few points:
1. Canthan New Year: A celebration of the Chinese New Year. Happened on the same date as the Chinese New Year and reflected that by having Guild Wars also enter the Year of the Pig. I don't know about you guys, but I don't celebrate Chinese New Year.(no offense to people who do, just an example) Not everyone who plays is Chinese just like not everyone is American.

2. St. Patrick's Day: I am 100% Irish and I "celebrate" St. Patty's Day.(A.K.A. Drinking lots of Guiness ) Seems that event was more focused to the European Servers, and not everyone is Irish just like not everyone is American.

3. Easter + Wintersday: I am Catholic and I celebrate Easter and Christmas, but not everyone is Catholic who plays this game, just like not everyone is American.

4. Halloween: Not everyone around the world celebrates Halloween, or knows what it really is for that matter.

So why not have a 4th of July Holiday thing? We have already had plenty of religion-specific, race-specific, and heritage-specific holiday celebrations in the past.

As a note: I am an American(obviously) and I do agree that most of the people in America are retarded when it comes to(but not limited to) the world as a whole.

The point is that each of those festivals are globally recognizable, if not globally celebrated. And Cantha is based in Asia, so it was only fitting that they have a festival that is based in ACTUAL Asia.

The world does not recognize the 4th of July. I know I've heard of it from films and such, but you couldn't ask me what it means or what it represents. It is simply far too specific. It's like me asking you all to celebrate ANZAC day. Wouldn't mean a thing...

So, another unthinking person asks about a celebration for a holiday that is only recognized in his/her country, and right away several @$$ wipes go off on a hissy fit. Just point out the error of his/her way and move on.

Peace.

I've seen enough of these threads and I'm tired of this suggestion. Why would we celebrate one country's independence day but not another country's?
There are currently 193 states recognized by the U.N, so why shouldn't we celebrate them all?

If that were so you would know it's Paddy not Patty

St. Patricks Day is not only recognised, but celebrated in many countries (America more than anywhere else, even here in Ireland) much like the Chinese New Year thus covering it's "international appeal". Heck, even here the first picture is not from Ireland but Chicago

big list of events but no English ones
St Patricks Day - New drops big party whoo
St Georges Day - St who? GRR would a few sheilds Red and White with a dragon on of been that hard

I am slightly jelous of the patriotism in the US as our (englands) national holiday went by in real life without notice ( i had my flag in window ) while just weeks before EVERY pub was giving away funny hats with every 16th guiness

It's the second one, the war against the empire. The civil war came later. And let play together nicely boys & girls, no need to be rude to anyone. Anyway I'm still voting for a Pancake day.

It was just an innocent question folks, what's with all the hissy fits?
Why is it that so many people jump on the "shame & spit" bandwagon?

It wasn’t as if the OP was demanding that America’s Independence Day be recognized by ANet and the world. He was just curious if he would have another IG “holiday” to look forward to in the near future.

I wish folks would pause and try to remember that what this forum is supposed to be about before they post ranting diatribes aimed at belittling others and making themselves feel righteous instead of actually helping each other.

*Steps down from soapbox*

Mmmmm, Pancake Day.

That was just wrong. It was a horrific event and it's just @ssholey (I know that's not a word, but it just fits) of you to make light of it.

I am all in favor of celebrating all the other holiday's around the world. Not too sure how anet would like it tho.

Because people are just looking for the slightest little thing in which to flame someone. They are not happy unless they are degrading and calling people names.

The hillarious thing is, all the people screaming "a.net won't do this cause it's only in America noobs" are the real noobs since a.net ALREADY DID THIS LAST YEAR WITH DRAGONFEST. This thread has run its course. Please close (these threads always ends up being filled with people screaming "America sucks" then a response of "Europe Sucks" and endless flaming from people who aren't even familar with the game lore.)

Good god, this is the most disgusting thread I have ever seen on any forum.

All I was asking was if there WAS an event, possibly leading into an event into the future, I don't see how that makes me a thinkless redneck. I am all for celebrating the major holidays of all nations, be it Australia day, Queens day, or any other nation specific holidays you can rattle off. I said July Fourth becuase it was the only one that I know of. Just as I am sure that most people in other countries don't care/don't know what the Fourth of July is. If any person were to come and ask for their nations holidays to be celebrated, I wouldn't have any problem with it. And I have a sneaking suspicion if I had asked as an Australian for an Australia day event, it wouldn't have turned into a two page rant by all the other members of this forum.

If they were to have an event for the Fourth, the only thing I would ask for would be another chance to build up my stock of fireworks and possibly open the shing jea boardwalk. I'm not asking for redocorating, I'm not asking for the avatar of Uncle sam to open up the independance arenas where we shoot each other with muskets. And quite frankly, I wasn't even asking for anything. I was just wondering if there had been any sort of recognition in the past. Arenanet is an American company by the way, if there is as much rampant hatred for America in this community as is shown by this post, perhaps you should purchase games made in your home countries.

How dare I ask about having another ingame event becuase I like the spirit (And fireworks ) that these events bring. Please any moderator that reads this close this thread, I have gotten my answer one way or another.

And BTW: I love the idea of pancake day, can't wait for maple syrup drops.
