basically iwas playing in fort aspenwood and my game froze. this has happed like 2-3 times in the past couple days for some odd reason so i just restarted gw each time.
Today i was playing fort aspenwood again (my game dosnt only freeze in aspenwood) and the game froze.
I restarted gw and then right when the game loaded, it asked if i wanted to connect back into my current game. upon clicking yes, the game froze again
I try to restart the game one more time and it brings up a "repairing data archive" thing.
So i let the data archive repair itself, and when its done gw downloads a couple of files and i get this message that says i dont have direct x 8.0 or above (which i do)
so i restart the computer and it does the repairing data archive thing(again) and i get into the game. i then find all my characters we're weird/different colored armor. Like beginner armor and different colors then i have. I try to log in and it says i have to download a bunch of different files.
so basically i think my data file randomly got corrupted and now im just downloading everything all over again via a run command
this happened also to my friend at the very same time as me. Could it be a glitch in the update packet? did anyone else have this problem? or did my game just happen to screw me over and condemn me to waiting another couple of hours till i can play my gw again u.u
weird problem

I would let NCSoft support know about this also, because it seems to be a somewhat common issue. I would say the information got fragmented and/or corrupted during the lag period you experienced, corrupting your Gw.dat file.
Once it repaired itself to an earlier backed up version, your armor and weapons had to reload themselves again from the server. Nothing really strange about that, sort of like a fresh install. I don't think it was the cause of an update packet, but who really knows what exactly is being updated (besides arenanet/ncsoft)?

I would advise keeping a backup of your new Gw.dat file if you can burn one on a DVD or upload it to a portable HDD. It'll save you a lot of downloading should this problem arise again.
