Not sure if this is right area, never really made a thread in here yet, but anyhoo

Anyone else finding in International Districts of the main towns at least, you can just be standing there, trying to sell, or going to storage or whatever, and someone will just come up to you, open a trade window, put in a load of unid'ed armours (Typically luxon ones I've noticed) and then ask "Want?" and say a price, and if you cancel trade, then they'll keep messaging you, offering lower and lower prices

Had this in Great Temple of Balthazar, and Kamadan a couple of times. Annoying, as they're not even trying to sell in the normal manner, just randomly opening trades, and keep pestering you for a while until they get the hint

These are bots. This has been going on since I can remember. These were alot worse back in 2005, the American districts were infested with them and you couldn't sit in an outpost without being constantly harassed. Ridiculous that this is still going on 2 years later..

Be warned.
Ive been scamed by exactly this before, bunch off luxon armour all gold and unidd, they usually say WTS Gold Unidd 7=6k or some crap.
I figured id buy a set just to see what it was all about, and i managed to barter the price down to about half what he requested,(which leaves the question, is it a bot or no? =O ?) i found it very suspicious, but had to check what it was about.

Turns the out the armor's gave a point to towards seeker title alright, but there were absolutely no runes or anything inside them, im guessing he salvaged them without identifying them.
So i ended merching them for about 300g each to compensate my losses.

I learned my lesson
If its too good to be true, its probably a very illusive and tempting scam!

PS: Found him and bunch more in Dronks Int 1 in case anyones interested in some bot hunting .

Thanks to all the guru [mods]

They are Chinese Gold Farmers.

they sell 7 unid armor for 3k, as they are already salvaged, and most people know this now.

Along with Unid Weapons, and they also salvage them, so watch out ^^

ive had many unid items, gold with things like Ebon longsword, nothing else on it.

I just leave the 'sdfgihsd' wants to trade with you, accept? window open and time to see how long they'll wait before actually engaging brain.

Edit: Oh, but I'll probably get banned for botlike behavior because I didn't respond to the trade request...

i personally don't mind these traders coz it gets me some quick unids. anyhow i'm pretty sure they're not bots coz they bargain prices. they just can't speak proper english though.

Yes, some aren't bots, however many are funneling funds to the gold sellers one would assume. It's a result of this assumption (which may be wrong I admit) that I don't trade with them, ever. Also because I can get my own gold items for wisdom title ;P

I had this happen to me after a Gaile meeting a few weeks ago, very annoying. The guy followed me around Kamadan for about five minutes opening trade with me (I never looked) and I was very polite each time saying "No thank you, I'm not interested in buying anything at this time" and he kept following me around then after he got bored or something he said "Fv** you"( yes he did use a V) then wandered off to harrass the next person. It's kind of annoying becuase he's telling me to F off when he's the one disrupting my gameply.

Twas fun, I wanna do it again

I rarely have this happen to me. So from now on whenever it happens I'll just hit accept without putting anything in the trade window. Best case scenario, I get some stuff for free and they learn their lesson. Worst case, I stop them from harassing someone else for a few minutes while I'm afk or talking with teammates/guildies with the trade window open.

I find quite often they have symbols for names, so that would support the Chinese bot farmer theory I suppose

I just bought some of these yesterday!
Sitting in town and the trade window appears. 7 gold unid armors in window so I put up 1K and hit accept, he hit accept then filled the window again. We did this 5 times before he mapped out of town. None of them had runes but I got 12 radiant insignias and 9 survivor insignias and 35 id's toward my next wisdom title. 5K well spent since I made 13K from selling the armors to the merch + all the insignias.
I always look at what they offer, and usually put up anywhere from 1g to 1K and hit accept. Alot of times I get the trade canceled and sometimes I get a rude PM from them but it doesn't matter cause sometimes it works out great.
As long as you know that the armor isnt going to have runes and the weapons usually wont have mods then it is a great way to bump up that wisdom title for cheap and you may just get something worth more than you pay now and then.

I had this happen to me last week, I was in the international disctrict in kamadan just minding my own business. I have seen this one person going around saying "buy?", later they came up to me and open trade window which I just ignored and logged off afterwards.

I always notice that when ever I want to buy a max weapon mod there is always a number of low level generic characters that message me, all selling at the same price...

/congrats

If you buy from these people you are supporting bots! For shame!

Actually, I open trade windows with random people quite a bit. Normally it's with a low level character. The reason being is that I am trying to give away a nice item I've found (just a little shy of max dmg, with a really low req).

What's even better is those rare occasions when you end up in a party with one. Once a gold item drops the bot begins it's tirade.

I'm Want!!
I'm Want!!
I'm Want!!

..Until you either pick the item up or leave. Even after you get your item, It'll open the trade window repeatedly with you. It's amusing.

No basically this is legit trade, nothing in this procedure is illegally obtained, however if u buy gold for cash then u are supporting botting. As long as people buy gold online these guys will thrive. If u don't buy it they will stop being there, and only legit chest runners will remain to help other get their wisdom title.

These are not bots, just annoying kiddos

Basically if ANet wants to fight bots they should flag any transaction above 10 to 20 platinum (these always need the exchange of at least one item). Flagged accounts get messaged and if they dealt with an account that engages in these kind of activities frequently both account will get disabled (the consumer maybe temporarily, untill three strikes out). It can only mean one thing, they were trading gold.

So if I give a guildie 75k to funs a 15k armor I get a flag? One hell of a solution.

AndI usually do as many others do. I simply hit accept with 1g. If they accept as well, I'm happy. If not, they scurry off. Either way, I win.

Those aren't bots, just kids who are up past their bedtime.
Normally they'll whisper you and spam can they have it.
Yet another reason why I'm on DnD 98% of the time.

7 for 3k? Thats nice and worth it lol. I only see bots spamming for at least 5k, or more. I would buy all of their unided armors for my title...

LOL, I got into a group last week with one. He wasn't a bot, just an immature kid. Everytime a gold dropped for someone he spammed
"I wanna ID"
"I wanna ID"
"I wanna ID"
followed by a trade window request. It was more annoying than anything else because we were trying for Masters in Nahpui Quarter HM and he was slowing us down.

Did a trade in balthazar int last night and afterwards had a chinese guy open trade and offer un'ided platinum wands. Wasn't really interested or could be bothered to barter as I wanted to go to sleep. It didn't really occur to me that the mods might have been salvaged without id (didn't realise you even could!). Good to know.

Nah u should think further, I thought of this but didnt want to add it immeadiately. Couple of things to circumvent it, either allow this, but then gold sellers will use guilds as safe havens, so just flag them and send or just watch whether the people are long in the guild or not. I would never lend/give a new guildie a lot of cash, one who is longer in it yes. But hey these kind of flags work in real life as well, how much people are gonna lend a shitload of money to others? Not much. So u get flagged, and maybe contacted, you are not banned yet, and you could add a density of "lending" function so to analyze whether its casual or "professional" lending. Any transaction of high amount is just prone to research, nothing bad about that.

Lol, regulating what people trade by incorporating a flag system on trades to be considered illigitimate? And on top of this your shotty idea doesn't even get people banned?

useless/10

I lend money to friends not in my guild all the time, does that mean I will get banned? Oh let me guess, you are going to mention a magical hat that someone at Anet wears that will tell them somehow that "true friends" makes it an okay trade.

So useless.
