Shiro without grouping
spacemodulators
OK this might sound stupid, but I am a monk who has been trying to take out Shiro with only Heroes and Henchies. I have gotten him as low as 20% then he starts to spam Impossible Odds and I end up eating pavement. Anyone ever defeat him without grouping? And if you did, what combos did you use?
Iuris
As a monk, you are facing a bit of a problem, but it should still be possible to get shiro out of the picture.
To understand Shiro, you must understand this: Shiro becomes dangerous when he has two skills active at the same time: his Battle scars and Impossible odds.
Why?
Impossible odda make him always double strike (two hits when he attacks) and all these hit all adjacent players. A monk supported group can take this. However, if he also uses battle scars, each of these hits will also add lifesteal equal to the hardest you've managed to hit him.
Comparatively: you do X damage, he begins to steal X life with each hit. With impossible odds, this becomes 2X life steal. Given a single tank, he will negate your damage and heal as fast as you could damage him. If you have several, he will regenerate at an amazing rate, and your monks will be overwhelmed within seconds.
The solution is usually:
-only use 1 melee tank
-the tank should be able to block a lot (if you block, he neither deals damage not steals life).
-my suggestion would be an assassin with flashing blades (75% block, can be kept up all the time).
-the tank would do well to also have Wild blow, as he can break battle scars (a stance) with it.
Also note:
-henchmen are better than heroes here, as they do get a celestial skill.
-Spoil victor, Spiteful spirit, Empathy, Insidious parasite are all your friends. Reckless haste too, probably. Shiro will kill himself well with them when he goes impossible.
In the Canthan mission, Shiro is a problem because he has the ability to banish you (If you have an attack celestial skill, you can consider saving it to kill the construct - it will recharge when the construct dies). Another problem is his meditation of the reaper. If he goes to meditate, you should either hit him with EVERYTHING (don't hold your hopes up unless you have elementalist celestial skills) OR run reallly really far away.

I recently beat him with my Sin using heroes and henchies and got Masters. The guide on Wiki was very helpful. I only took Dunkoro as a monk, since we already have Mhenlo as part of the mission. For my heroes I also took Koss as a knockdown hammer warrior and Olias as an SS/SV necro. For my henchies I took the two warriors, the Earth henchie and the Domination henchie. For my Sin, I packed oodles of degen attacks. We hammered Shiro from the start and cleaned his clock in about 2 minutes.

Impossible odds and battle scars only become a problem if you drag out the battle so long that he starts to hurt you. If you can pile on the damage you can easily kill him before he does much at all. Go henchies for the most part, the celestial skills are pretty good. Especially melee, the warriors storm of swords is awesome. The ele and assassin skill is good to. Otherwise, you can get by on minimum healing and go all out attack. Go melee for the most part, only take ele hench. And the only heroes I'd take are necros. And maybe a monk if you want to customise your healing. The necros take all the melee hate, SV/SS/insidious/price of failure/empathy etc. Between storm of swords and SV/SS etc if he tries impossible odds while surrounded by melee he'll die before you even get warmed up.
Pwny Ride
Try Empathy, then watch the little yellow numbers fly when he uses impossible odds

I got master with my assassin monk hero SS hero and MM hero ^^ under 2 min woooooot
Shadow Kurd
[skill]Spiteful Spirit[/skill][skill]Empathy[/skill][skill]Insidious Parasite[/skill] on him and watch him commit suicide.

I beat Shiro with a PuG, though have come close with henchies.
It's Impossible Odds near the end (at which point he spams it) that causes trouble.
As said by Kurd, use SS, Empathy, and anything else that will hurt him. Unlike some things about Impossible Odds, such as that blinding does not work, these "attacker's-regret" skills DO trigger on him, and will help negate his healing.
Also, if you haven't been doing so, echo your celestial skills if you can both afford to go /Me and bring echo as your elite! (Unlike Prophecies, it is very easy to cap in Factions if you are a Kurzick)
What I like to do with my celestial skill is time it so that I use it when a Bound player appears, because killing said player will give a morale boost and recharge it. The exception is if he goes meditation, in which case you want to unload everything on him to avoid a wipe.

I have beaten him with my monk and only henchies (heroes where not present back then, but the celestial argument is a good one).
The only thing I changed in my monk build was taking some block skills with me. Guardian, Aegis if you have the energy for it. Dont spam them, use them selectively. I cant remember my henchie setup, but most of the time I grab a lot of physical, earth support and illusion.
If you cannot take him down before his nasty combo's just bail out the fight and try to scatter your henchies.
EDIT: I didnt get masters like this though.. did that later when I took a necro/mesmer guildie. Empathie and SS really owns him

Take [skill]Spiteful Spirit[/skill] [skill]Spoil Victor[/skill] [skill]empathy[/skill] [skill]insidious parasite[/skill]
No need any heal as a monk. Go full smite if you want.
Soon, you will see lots of yellow numbers coming out when he use odds.
You also need a hero war with [skill]wild blow[/skill] and micro [skill]wild blow[/skill] yourself.

Its easier to beat shiro with h/h than grouping imo
I did it with myself as a monk,
Heroes: 2 necros and monk
Henches: 2 warriors, mesmer and ranger(interrupt)
Necro1: SV, BR, signet of lost soul, rez sig
Necro2: SS, Enfeeble, signet of lost soul, rez sig
Any monk builds will do. I gave Tahlkora prot skills and myself as LoD
Lock both necro on Shiro and watch him dies in 2 minutes...(including the running)
Just be sure to focus fire on him when he uses meditation of the reaper

Martin Aka Viper
Always Spoil Victor for shiro, as he has 6000+hp so he will b doing 100dmg+ whenever he hits a person with lower health than him
and an Air Ele spike normally is good

Just got masters with my Ranger very fast
Me Ranger / Mesmer the main skills I used (I tanked him with the meat puppets and My Hammer Lady friend Mrs. D )
[skill]empathy[/skill] [skill]throw dirt[/skill] [skill]Whirling Defense[/skill]
Celestial skill must be used when you see him getting low on health around 25% or so
Hero Necro [skill]spiteful spirit[/skill]
Hero Ele [skill]Spoil Victor[/skill]
Balance all Henchmen (Took both Necros just for the meat puppets they get for star skills) more people shiro hits the more dmg I do
