Old Players coming back?

I first played GW starting with the first Betas and i got really into it for a while. I was the 4th person to reach rank 9 and i own two accounts neither has factions nightfall or Eye. I had left GW to take a break from it and play Eve Online (which was alot of fun). My problems with coming back are so far are.

1. $90 + eye expansion which will probably be 50 so $140 to play through everything. Not sure why its full price for the game through online site when they dont give you anything other than the code itself.

It would be nice if there was a promotional to bring old players back or new players to get more into the game; buy 2 parts get 1 free or something.

2. Seems that owning 2 acounts was good when the game first came out but now to play through on both id need to pay $300 dollars =(.

It would be nice if there were a charecter transfer system or an account merger system. Eve has one. The affect of having such a system is that charecters then have a value and people will buy/sell charecters (could happen). The other affect is that CCP (corporation who owns EVE) makes money everytime a charecter is transfered.

Could merge my 4 charecters from one account into the other account so i have a total of 8 slots of which my 3 maxed out pve charecter would be together on the same account as my other 3 maxed out pve charecters. from there id get a couple extra slots from the expansions so i could have 1 of each class of pve charecter as i do now.

What do you all think?
What would bring back old players that have left?
What would bring new players in that will play through more than 1 chapter?

I have heard that the games were packaged together (all three) at Sam's Club for a discounted price. I have heard idle chit chat about a Guild Wars Trilogy being in the works.

Merging two seperate accounts into one is something that has been spoken of, but I think has been pretty much shot down.

Ok, that would be a problem for the rest of us, seeing as we only got a total of 6 character slots by adding another chapter on. AND GW:EN is adding no additional character slots. ALSO, its been stated several times that GW:EN (seeing as it is an expansion) will be cheaper than chapters. I'm pretty sure that still stands.

I'm not real sure how Anet will get money from character transfer/selling from what you have, but I'm pretty sure that buying characters with real money is against Anet's rules...and buying them with gold won't do much for Anet.

Returning after a 50 month break. Hi.

Personally, I recently started playing again after an 8 month break (for GWEN & 2). I don't see ANet bringing in any kind of account merging system though, so you're best off picking the account with the chars you like most on and sticking to that, then possibly recreating your redundant chars if you particularly liked any of them. TBH, unless you have a large stash hidden away, once you get nightfall your average player struggles to keep even 1 or 2 sets of heroes well equipped (11-15 mouths to feed, and equip...). Basically what I'm saying is that once you're onto Nightfall, unless you always play with other players, you'll end up being whittled down to your 1, 2, maybe 3 favourite characters, for me that my Ranger and Dervish. At least until you rake in enough cash to go through the process again.

I haven't played in about 4-5 months and I just came back to it this week. Honestly, I'm finding that the time off hasn't improved my view of the game. I just can't bring myself to get any more characters through Nightfall to do all the unlocking I need to be setup for PvP. (I don't feel like forking over $40 for the unlocks either.)

I may come back for GW:EN and bring my Necro through it, but I can't justify spending any more time than that on this game.

Yes it would be very nice! You are not alone in having bought more than one account and are now having a hard time of it choosing what to do. I am sure that lots of people when first discovering the game, be it in Prophesies or in Factions, bought more than one copy and have had to purchase all of the add-ons for them for various reasons.

Here’s an example: Over time my hubby and I have purchased too many copies of this game. In the beginning we just wanted more character slots (prior to when you could buy them).

We also wanted three different guilds with three different cloak styles: one guild for fighter/ranger types and one guild that was more evil and full of necros and one that was full of mages (the mages guild). This turned out to be an error as we found out later that it was better to have balanced accounts.

Then we realized that some of the skills and armor we wanted were only found in the different expansions. Much later, the new Nightfall campaign came out with its heroes added to it, so we HAD to have that one for all of our characters. Thus the slow and expensive process of buying all of the campaigns for each account began (which I am pretty sure was the whole idea and it is a prime reason for them not doing what you have suggested).

So which account will I choose for GW:EN? Alas! I cannot choose! I have at least one character in every account that I just adore and I like the rest very much.

So I will most likely be buying GW:EN for all of my accounts, unless I can force myself to narrow it down because of the expense. Between the two of us, we have already spent a small fortune on the game, purchasing a copy of all of the campaigns for each of our accounts (actually, some of the campaigns that we bought for my hubbies account were never opened and installed onto his account because we gave them away to friends as Xmas presents instead, but we still bought them in the first place!). He is glad of that now because it has helped narrow it down for him as to which account will carry on his achievements and get GW:EN. Also, there were a lot of skill changes that took place, narrowing the choices even more.

My advice to you if you are interested in getting back into the game and you don’t want to spend the extra money on two accounts is to keep in mind that there have been some big changes that have happened since you have been gone. Therefore, test your characters to see which ones you like now. Perhaps characters that you use to like you won’t like so much anymore. On the other hand, other characters that you try may have improved in function.

Also, research the builds that you could design with your present characters and then try to determine which characters will be most effective when their present skills are combined with the skills from the other campaigns.

Lastly, try to figure out which account has the best potential for carrying on titles to GW2, so that you will have no regrets later when you transfer your achievements.

I would try to cover all of the bases before I made such a difficult choice.

That's funny. I quit playin GW right after factions came out to work on EvE online alot more. I have three accounts in it and its great fun Alas, I have slowly tapered off of EvE and edged back over to GW for a change. Those accounts will definitely stay running for training on EvE. Its the only game I will ever pay to play. But for now...im enjoying GW again...and have several buddies playing it again also. Good Times.

^ Dryndalyn's got a good idea

Also, bring over all the stuff you can (runes, weapons, gold etc) to the account you're gonna keep and upgrade. makes it simpler
