Armor/Looking Test Server?
Kyosuki
Hey all.(srry for bad english^^)
Well I was thinking for a while why dont GW/Anet/PlayNC w/e do a Armor/Looking-Test Server. What I mean by that, its a server were you can creat a character and have all the armors you want with all the dyes you want, just to test if ur character on the real GW server whoudl look good with that armor combo,Is the hair matching the dye?Is it matching the armor?ect.
Now the Armor/Looking-Test server woudn't be "Multiplayer" its just to see your character with "x" armor+"x" dye+"x" face/hair/skin".I think it whould help the GW community,I mean dont you hate to wait until you get(exemple:Cavalon) to figure out that the armor actually dont really match afterall with your character!
Oh well just my 2 cent^^

Not just armor..
They should make a complete Test Server where you can try out game and skill changes before it goes live. This world would be completely cut off from the live environment, and characters/items/gold etc should be wiped at regular intervals.
I used to play another mmorpg before GW using a test server to try out various changes. A lot of theese changes never made it to the live servers. Players on this server would then give their input on the changes. It didn't always catch new bugs from reaching live servers, but it did caught a lot of them.
You would start the game with a different .exe file ( GwTest.exe ), you would have access to certain commands not available on live ( /setlevel, /feedback ), and there would be regular wipes to avoid players would use it as a live server.

A whole server, just to see if something LOOKS the way you want it? I don't see a need for this at all. I would prefer a preview panel like the dye gets, but for armor. When you talk to the armor crafter, let it show your character in the armor you can buy from him, on your character. And since it is a preview panel, you can add dye to it to see what it would look like. Until you supply the gold and materials, and click the craft button, the armor is not in your inventory. May not seem like it, but I imagine making a 'version' of the game where ALL players get access to ALL armor, weapons, and dye would be very tedious, difficult, and costly.

Absolutely /signed. I hate not knowing what my character looks like in armour before I buy it. So much wasted money...

yup im signing magma's idea

Yeah you got a point MagmaRed,but woudn't it suck to do all mission to a certain place(exemple:Cavalon) to know that the armor dosn't match you,I mean we should be able to preview any armor(even 15k/Obsi) anytime, even if ur not at the place yet.

Well, they should put armourers in a shop and give the shop a function, like say a mirror where you can see your character as if it had that armour on. I still am a bit miffed at buying 15k kurzick for my female necro to find out it came with some hideous looking earrings that I still don't understand the need for...

A server? Thats a little much isnt it? A simple window like the dye preview is all we need.
Tarun
Preview panel for everything is all we need.

It could be similar to the current character creation screen. You have all the armours cached, as well as all the dyes. Then you can simply try all the armours on a character (even if you had to re-create your character offline) with all the dye combinations. THus no wasted money, or time.

I like this idea.
Note: It would still be called a server... just a "local" server, on your pc, onto which your client connects (loopback).
At the login screen just select if you want to enter userid and password and connect to the online GW gameserver or clock on the button "preview armor and dye" and then the game would connect to the local (on your pc) server.

Bad idea. You know why? Because there is no single "Server".
Ever notice disconnecting from the login server?
Ever notice disconnecting from friend server?
It is a private network that you log into by connecting to the login server, which activates the other servers such as Friends server and the actual server you play on (the one it shows the IP for).

You know what else would be awesome about this? You could try and mix-and-match armours without having to buy them all first. Some armours look great together and others just look appalling!! This would be a great way to know what can look good.
