At the bottom of the main forum page are the statistics showing current number of users (right now about 2100 which is average), the logged-in member names, then the total posts and current membership total (132k). You can compare those statistics with other sites for community size.
As to experienced players, I don't know another GW forum where members are so willing to share their experience instead of just bragging about it.

For trading, definitely. Despite the speed problems (especially with the auction site, whose server seems to give up and decide to serve pages as downloadable text files!), the important thing for trading is to have lots of buyers and sellers.
As for Guru's worth as a general forum, I'd say that your guild/alliance's forum (if it has one) is probably better, because there are more trolls here than in the cave outside Droknar's Forge.

But when I also note they also don't want you linking to ad-busting software, I start thinking that IncGamers cares about profit (from people clicking on adds) first, making a quality site second.
Do they seriously not allow linking to the wiki ANET is running ?
How do they attempt to justify that ?
And then, despite their rules about not being allowed to spam their forums, they implemented a silly mod that gave a score based on the number of posts you make a day.
I've also seen people regularly told off for posting other peoples names, despite that not being in their rules. When I commented on this, they admitted the rules needed updating (I think some people were also upset about the 10 commandments theme they have for their rules). I stopped going there September last year, and the actual text of the rules still hasn't been changed at all.
Compared to those moronic and incomplete administration policies, guru running slow, or sometimes not loading at all, is nothing.
