my bad, was thinking swords not bows, but yes 15-28. and, yes longbows are good. flatbows got the sexy fast refire but because of the arc that the arrow takes it spends forever getting to the target and is very easy to dodge. get a long bow for barrage vampiric or zealous and a short/recurve bow for the interrupt if you have that in your build and to stop the life degen in between mobs.
Sophitia Leafblade
My Dragos Longbow and my Feathered Longbow (the -2 damage one for running) thats all id ever need But if u want cheap ones, get the free ones from the endgame areas eg. the Ironwing Longbow etc.
Destinyy
Why use a longbow for barraging when a flatbow has better firing rate and the same range??? Lay down a SoFW and the flatbow will KILL anything for barraging...

Keep the flatbow for the extra damage output (faster refire), and negate the arc by using Favourable Winds when Barraging (remember, a hero can carry this for you), or Read the Wind when not Barraging.
If I could only have one bow, it would be a Vampiric Flatbow of Fortitude (15^50, or +5 energy), with whatever you like on weapon switch to stop the degen between fights (it doesn't even have to be a bow).

indeed, flatbow is ftw when barraging, just use favorable winds ^^ i'd use zealous for more or less infinite energy, so just beat nf or factions and you got yourself a free one ^^
or go with a vampiric hornbow if you want to do more damage, vah's hornbow is ideal, also quite cheap, bought a couple of it for 1k. or just farm him yourself with a wurm

It takes essentially no money to build a bow collection. When you get a string save it, when you get a skin save it, when you get an inscription save it. Very soon you have 10 bows for different tasks.
If all you do is boring barraging a flatbow will work best. I highly reccomend learning to play though, using a build that requires more than hitting a single button all day. You'll be more effective and probably find that you like it.

If I could only have 2 bows, I would get a poisonous recurve of fortitude for most standard ranger builds and a vampiric flatbow of fortitude for barrage builds.
If you are short on money, I would strongly reccomend that you take a look at collector bows. Many collector bows still have good skins imo, especially compared to some other bow skins such as bramble. Since there's such a huge influx of gold items hitting the market, you can usually either find someone that is desparate to sell their weapon and willing to do so for a low price or just get some mods to make your own bow cheap. Should you decide to get a collector bow, take a look at the collector page from GuildWiki to see what collectors have what type of bows and what collector items they require (http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Collectors). If you don't have the necessary items, you can usually find someone willing to sell their extra collector items for about 100g or less. Fortitude mods are admittedly expensive, but defense mods (armor + 5 unconditional) are still good mods for a bow and are a lot cheaper.
Green bows can be pretty good weapons to attain since you can often get a bow with perfect mods for a price less than the value of all the mods themselves. A good example of this is getting something like a Chkkr's Flatbow or Zelnehlun's Longbow for dirt cheap since they are easily farmed as opposed to having to buy a fortitude grip with zealous or sundering mods. However, check around before you do this since weapon mod prices have dropped and other green bows like Drago's Flatbow can cost more than the sum of it's parts.
Hope that helps.

In terms of all-round general use, Recurve Bows are the way to go.

Yes, why use a fork and a spoon when you can have a spork?
Don't settle for general use, learn to weapon swap and get the appropriate tool for the job you are doing.

Chill.

"Unable to spend money" is laughable though - collector bows are perfectly good, and you can get a full range of bows that way for a paltry sum. That's why I would encourage getting collector bows that suit the roles, and use less than perfect mods if needed - +27 health is perfectly fine, you don't need +30. Acquire the +30s later when you have money, but why compromise on bow performance if you don't have to?

What I would have said if it hadn't been said already. This covers all the main builds well enough. A 15^50 zealous flat, 15^50 ebon recurve, 15^50 fiery shortbow, +5/15^50 silencing recurve, 15^50zealous/vamp shortbow and 15^50 vamp horn would be the next ones on my list, though I'd get a 15^50 zealous +30 hammer, 15^50 zealous +30 daggers, 15^50 furious +30 spear and +20e staff before before completing that collection. Anything else is pretty niche not including variants on the hammers etc.

15^50 5/-1 +30 Flatbow for Barraging and general use. i would say 20/20 but its crap. always bring Read the Wind or Favourable Winds.
15^50 20/20 +30 Recurve Bow for BA / Cripshot / Choking Gas

well... Drago's Flatbow is always a classic...I use for my barraging builds
as well as a 5/-1 15^50 +30 hp Flat bow
I'm running the R/P Commando over the usual FW R/Mo for barraging more and more now
My other Ranger builds
R/Me Fevered Dreams/multiple condition spreading with Rotwing's Recurve bow
R/Mo Interrupter with Punishing Shot using a 20/20 15^50 +30 Recurve bow
R/Mo Interrupter with Poison Arrow with Rotwing's Recurve bow
as well as a 5/-1 15^50 +30 hp Flat bow
