make the clouds dissapear
Synles Chyld
i remember once i read somewhere (not sure where tho ) bout a switch or mod or somethin u can do to make the clouds on ur ingame map (M) disappear so u can see the underlying land mass more clear. it would greatly help to see what u had left on ur map to open it up if the dam black mass of clouds constanly scrolling across ur screen would just dissapear then maybe i could finally get my grand master cartographer title...
no clouds=i can see my map so i know what all i havnt opened up
if anyone has any info on this at all plz post a reply
thx

For some strange reason none of this is making sense to me.. If i understand later then i will have an answer lol.

I believe if you set GW to the lowest graphics mode, everything set to its worst, it MIGHT do it. I think it's also a thing with old graphics cards, not 100% sure. I know what you mean though, just not sure how to do it.
Ultra Mega
It is called "Fog of War" and I would have thought it being there would be an indication that you haven't completed an area. Don't know of any way to remove it except of course by wall hugging.

well for instance like our mini map (U) it has no clouds but its not quite as usefull to use for catographing as the (M) map if i can just get the clouds to go away id be able to see the lil spots i know im missing ;'(
Ultra Mega
Why don't you just take your character there to reveal the spots you are missing?

ah ok, good luck with that.

The cloud does MOVE over time, no?
Just wait for it to move away....

I use U to compare maps. It gets rid of the fog and the names.
El Panty Bandito
Hit U key, expand the window to full size by stretching its corner. No clouds in those, but are the maps are the same size.
edit: Guy above me beat me, must of posted near the same time, im just slower lol. But yeah, the U key, use it

What fenix said about lowering your graphics settings is the only way I've ever heard you can remove the clouds with. I've never tried it myself though. When I map, I just expand the "U" map because it is zoomed in anyway. You can click and drag on the "U" map to see whatever area you are trying to figure out.
The clouds are in perpetual motion but don't "move away". They are just thicker and thinner which gives the feeling that they are rolling along the map.

with old Nvidia drivers there was an option in the driver control panel called "disable fog table emulation." That's probably what he's referring to. It would have disabled effects like the clouds on the world map. But that option disappeared from their drivers a long time ago.
Hyper.nl
Disabling fog as an option would help a lot for the difference comparison (Using photoshop) of fullscreen zoomed-out maps.

I keep mission map open when I go to instances.

He's talking about little fluffy clouds when fully zoomed out on "M" map - they mess your Photoshop 'Difference' map up

You used to be able to have a large shot of ur entire map zoomed in with no cloud cover (i think this is what the OP is asking about) however Anet disabled this feature for some reason, im not quite sure why all i know is they did.
Thats why people now use the U map instead.

folks were taking 5 consecutive screens of the zoomed out M map and layering, then removing the differences in Photoshop. That usually did the trick, but it's cumbersome.

I've never worried about the clouds before. When you want to find out what areas remain to be mapped/defogged, the method I find works best is to overlay your full-size M map with a 100% M map of the same resolution (check The Hall Of Knowledge subforums for cartography help) using GIMP (free) or Photoshop. Even though the clouds don't match up, you can still zoom in to different regions and use the appropriate slider bar in the Layers panel to scroll back and forth between 0% and 100% opacity and easily notice the blurred-landscape differences. PM me if you want to try this but don't fully understand what I'm saying.

For Synles Chyld:
That "problem" must be your video card, monitor or something, because in my computer I see very transparent clouds never interfering with the map at all; clouds are so transparent that I just ignore them and totally forget about there are actually clouds in the map.

yes they r pretty much transparent but its like walking into a room full of smokers sure u can see everyones face or the opisite wall but its covered in cloudy smoke thats the same thing here it just tends to be in the way
yeah i can see anet wants it to be like a birds eye view from the sky so sure there is cloud cover but none the less if they would make a way to disable it I would be most pleased cuase its a big annoyance for me and evidently for others too making their way to GMC
