Right seeing as there seems to be quite a lot of you I thought we could try this. I'm sure most of your can guess what this is really about but anyway. Here's the challenge:

You have $1100 to build the best gaming computer you can
It must include: mouse, keyboard, monitor and speakers
Anything else is optional

list all your componants here.

Do you think you can do it? Good luck!

Motherboard: Asus P5B - $117
CPU: C2D E6600 2.4Ghz - $224
RAM: 2*1GB Corsair XMS2 - $116
VGA: Leadtek 8800GTS 320MB - $285
HDD: WD RE2 WD3200YS 320GB - $90
PSU: FSP BlueStormII 500W - $87
LCD: ViewSonic Vx922 19'' - $245

Total: $1164

Prices from newegg. I know it's over the limit, but if you look around on the market perhaps you can get some items cheaper. If you want to cut down prices you can go with the C2D E6420 and cheaper RAM. The selected LCD is not a cheap one, but a good one for sure(saw it irl). By choosing another one(i think it's a must if you can't wait with the purchase to get more cash) you can save up for the missing parts(case, keyboard etc...).

I hope there are no requirements for when you buy

CPU: Intel Q6600 - about $270 in July
Vid Card: eVGA 8800GTS 640MB - about $330 (just wait a little, those prices were at $300 after rebate a week ago, but I'm sure they'll go down again )
Memory: Crucial Ballistix 2x1GB - $70 after rebate
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA965-DS3 - about $100
Case: whatever I can get for $30
Hard drive: whatever Seagate has for $70
DVD-RW: $30
PSU: Corsair HX520 - $80 after discount
Keyboard: $10 Logitech keyboard
Mouse: $10 Logitech Mouse

and $100 left for monitor+speakers.

If you can't wait till July to pick up that quad-core, then a E6600 now would give you $50 extra to spend somewhere.

Just to clarify, it's American dollars, which in good old pound sterling comes to about £550.

Just to confirm: July 22, 2007

Q6600 (8M L2 cache 2.40 GHz 1066 MHz FSB 65nm) $266

Also, the new E6850 will be available then at the same price point: that's a Core 2 Duo with 1333 FSB and clocked at 3.0GHz

Either one would be very attractive....
