I have a problem. I am a Guild Wars Packrat! I have 3 Full Time Mules, 5 Partial Mules and a full Bank Box.

Most of the items are "Collector" items however I'm torn between actually hunting down the appropriate Collectors (and in the process possibly gaining even more junk) and just selling everything to the merchants.

I could also sell some of it to players, but then that's quite time consuming as well. I just don't know what I should do. I feel like if I sell it to a merchant, then I will waste money, but then again it's not making any money sitting on a mule.

I'm also wondering if it's really worth it to hunt down a Collector, trade in for an item and then sell the item.

Bah! Decisions, decisions!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do any of the collectors have items that your heroes could use? If not, in some cases it is better value to trade them in then sell the item you receive. In other instances the items have the same value as the collectables. (go here to see what you can trade in for http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Category:Collectable_drops) I would find the collectors where you can make more money, then merch the rest. Selling collector items to other players can be painful in my experience.

This will help you find collectors and what they sell.

If you have trophies that let you earn weapons that are not max dmg or worth less than 125g, merchant them.

If you have trophies that are worth 25g or more, but do not like the reward, merchant them.

People often buy trophies in various areas to help them with a quest or get Collector Armor pieces from them. Because these trophies are rare and somewhat tedious to farm, people will pay 100g or more each in certain places through out the world.

For example, there are 3 commonly traded trophies in Kamadan, for a QUEST:

Chunk of Drake Flesh [sell for 100g max]
Iboga Petal [can sell for 50g or so]
Skale Fin [50g]

With the latest influx of new players, these items seem to be in demand.

Mostly Collector Armor related trophies are in demand.

Areas such as Amoon Oasis, Droknar's Forge, Kaineng City, Zen Daijun and Champion's Dawn have people looking for collector armor trophies.

Otherwise if you think it's worth your time and effort to go hunt the collectors to profit from the trophies worth less than 25g each at merchant, by all means

Selling the items you get from the collector is almost never worthwhile any more. You used to be able to sell some of the wands and things for ~5-8k/ea, but now everyone knows where every collector is

oh, a kindred soul.
well I only have 3 full time mules and 2 part timers and the storage is very full.
However I have prioritized stuff. Certain collectables I keep others as soon as within merching distance are done so---like kourman pendants I have plenty of useless scrolls already thanks---merched. On the other had I still have putrid cycts and augmented flesh----thinking of keeping these until I get 250 of each then merching them (have about 200 of each already).
And with nightfall still new in my characters lives I keep almost all the collectable stuff from there, some stuff from factions and almost nothing (bleached shells?) from chapter 1. When my toons have finished factions and gwen is out and I see what those 120 new heroes will need (12 toons 10 heroes each) then I will see what goodies I have held onto and get some things for my new heroes, other stuff will then be merched (ok after next wintersday I promise),

[ so yeah my avatar isnt a rat just because he is cute ya know]

I have set up a spreadsheet (a little obsessive, I know) listing the collectors weapons I want for each of my characters and heroes, with information from the wiki.

For example, check out http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Warrior_collector_weapons Figure out what you want (suggest 15^50 for martial weapons, 20/20 for casters) and what collectors item you need for it. Put it on the list and when you have list completed, sell the rest.

/raises hand.

I'm guilty also, since I have several characters to hold collectors' drops as well. I usually end up giving them to guildmates so they can get perfect weapons.

I'm just like you guys ^^
2 characters full with "useless" collector drops.
imo, you should just keep those who can be used during events (like wintersday/halloween) to get festival/alcohol/sugary items, it usually sells very well once the event has ended.
collector drops I've been keeping so far :
charr carving
singed gargoyle skull
decayed orr emblem
stone summit badge
dregde manifesto
copper shilling
silver bullion coin
and some other various ones

cheers
