What character class should I be?

I know people ask this a lot, but I'll post anyway. I'm basically a noob cause I'm planning on buying Guild Wars. I'm not sure which one yet because I'm considering being an assassin. But if the assassin sucks or something then I might get Nightfall instead of Faction. So first off, which one is better? Nightfall or Faction? Or maybe just explain the pros and cons of each one and compare them both together. Is the Assassin a good class? Or is it not worth it to be one? What class should I be then?

That said, assassins in PvE are a bit more difficult to play, in my opinion. They seem to die a lot more than any of the other professions (I have at least one of each profession, including assassin). EDIT: I only speak of PvE because that's what I know best. I hear they're pretty decent in PvP.

If you're deciding between Factions and Nightfall, I suggest NF (as most people probably will). It's got a lot more perks to it (heroes, inscriptions, etc.) and has a larger player base because it's newer. Less people like Factions and it's often relatively deserted.

can only agree with siren.

assasins arent good choice for a newbie player.

the easiest to play are prolly warriors or eles.

what about campaign would also recommand nighfall or profecie as both have nice tutorial for learn the basics of game.

Well, it's not that Assassins suck at this game, it's just that they got a bad reputation since the begging of the game. So many Naruto fans, so many Naruto names, so little professionalism put into the class...

Many people think that once they make an Assassin, they can tank, well... THEY CANNOT!!!!!! Their best job is finding a loose target who is away from a group of foes and unleashing a chain of attack skills upon them, then running away behind their allies.

In PvP, 90% of the Assassin population use a brainless combination of attack skills to kill off a player in a matter of nanoseconds. This is how they got a bad reputation in PvP (that and the abuse of a certain skill that allows one to teleport from one side of a map to another).

If, however, you are really interested in making an Assassin, I do implore you to read the Assassin forums to become a better player. Have a great time

Go to wiki and read up on all the classes and then pick which ever one that sounds the most interesting and fun to you. If you ask here, all you're going to get is people listing every class in the game and you'll be right back where you started from.

Actually, they all do have a tutorial, although Prophecies has the "best" one with long Pre-Searing.

I just want to say...play whatever you feel like. It doesn't matter what you play with anymore. Now everyone just hench/heroway, they will kill for you, u just basically stands near the enemies.. This game is kinda screwed. I hope they change the system with these hero/hechies thing, like limit it for PVE too....

I can't really recommend assassins. Especially when you plan to play PvE (the role playing part) you may be better off with something like a Warrior, Ranger or Elementalist.

And if you have GuildWars Prophecies (the first game) I recommend starting there, for the story and game development part. Prophecies has the most beautiful and largest beginner area. And I can recommend not to skip the area.

Assassins are a lot of fun to work with, but they take a bit of getting used to (and by that I mean you're going to need a lot of practice if you choose this profession). Assassins can be difficult to keep alive on their home continent considering so many of the monsters in Factions explode on death.

In other words: teleport in, unleash attack chain of choice to critically injure target, teleport out and let someone else deal the killing blow, wait for skills to recharge, rinse, repeat. That's all there is to playing an assassin, but it will take a lot of practice and be prepared to die frequently until you've got the hang of it

To the OP...

You are at that "make 1 of each and take em all to lvl 10 to decide" phase... seriously, try them all out for yourself dude, I started and restarted every profession like at least 5 times each before i came to my 2 fave classes (Necro and Ranger)...

Go all out, try em all, and see where it gets u... In time, you will find your niche too...

Yeah, i agree with Apok Omen most are fans of that naruto show errr what ever. And it does take a long time to get used to the gameplay. PvE is terrible for them. They have the same armor count as a ranger 70 and they should have more because they are right next to the enemy fighting in clsoe combat. They aren't too strong in PvP either. I don't play too much in the arenas i mostly play in AB's and they are mostly good at running away. To me they aren't really well put together. Thier best "trick" is running away, how is that deadly? Anyways i would suggest playing a warrior or ranger because they specialize in phyisical damage and they don't require alot of fansy footwork to play. They also make good runners so you could make some easy cash too.^^ Just play em all and you will find the one you like the best. I made an ele for my first character and i fell in love with the gameplay. Best damage dealers in the game. Necro's aren't bad either.

And I would suggest gettting proph instead because its the best story line and it has the best "tutorial" it teaches you how to play the game if you wanna know or not. I think it has the coolest armor sets too. (Besides the Vabbian set in NF) And most people have that one because it was the first out. Plus it costs less too. But if you are like me then you will want them all!

Hope I helped.

1, you have no idea how to play assasin, and after reading your post, i'd be surprised if the OP bought the game, please stop

2, all the games are the same price (only £10 each) here in the UK

3, how is prophecies the best tutorial? I'm getting annoyed with so many new people starting and rushing through presear and not even grabbing a damn res sig, now this isn't thier fault (ok, sometimes it is) but at least in Factions and Nightfall you can go back... This is why i have a nearly 2 year old pre sear character, I regularly jump on with him and help out new people, as they shouldn't be coming through the searing at lvl 2 or 3, but between 6 and 8 (and thats from just doing all the missions in pre sear)

4, unless your talking about Armour Artwork, then they all have the same armour, especialy now that all but collectors sets are inscribable, as you can have any look and get the stats you need or want, the look is cosmetic, but the armour is always the same, no matter what chapter your playing

Warrior and Paragon - 80 armour
Ranger, Dervish and Assasin - 70 Armour
Caster's - 60 Armour

Mr. Negative.

I agree with Nyagan. Get the original Guild Wars. Oh and by the way, none of the games are the same price in NA. I recommend getting the trilogy off of eBay for 80$.

Good ol' USA, where everyone else wants to be

Now Plays World of Warcraft on Whisperwind

Get Nightfall first.

WHY? Because thats where the GW population is right now. Then I would get Factions and prophecies just to check them out. I would play each class up to level 10 and just keep with what you enjoy.

get prophecies. sure there are idiots that rush through pre on their first character, but have you seen the idiots that only have the introduction training from nightfall or factions? they dont have any idea how to play.

Why is proph filled with noobs? If anything that's where the most experienced players are at.

unfortunately, 'pre' is like a school playground at the moment (at least on uk servers anyway). is sad cos i actually like starting all my new characters in prophecies for pre-searing only.

i guess if you want to play assassin you could go ranger/assassin because you could use dagger skills for close combat. i do like to use dagger skills. Is this a viable build? Or would another secondary be better for close combat?
