Oktoberfest is still planned, and it is FINAL. Location is now again undecided.

However, I am still looking for ideas on contest etc. Any ideas are welcomed, and would encourage you to post them here, no matter how stupid or brilliant you think they are. I can still take an idea and get a concept out of it. So, please please, ideas? Thanks guys and girls.

I vote for a Beer-Goggles Costume Contest.

Using the lessons we learned from the masquerade ball, we could hold another costume contest. Just one catch - the judges are drunk (in-game of course). Winner is chosen like last time.

some crappy ideas of mine
idea 1

This is my (not fully developed idea) you customize a bunch of masks(dont know which one you would want id say lion mask as it looks the drunkest
you give 3 to 3 of your friends (if possible make them have funny names like Assassin here or Free stuff wammo)=9 rounds
You give a riddle to their identy or just say their name and the first person to open trade with them gets the mask
winners get something like 5k or booze'

idea 2
drunken rock, paper, scissors
basic game but with the power of whiskey

idea 3
drunken tic tac toe
get ten of your friends (yes 10 i can count 5 red 5 blue depending on who goes first)
you choose a random person and clear a space and you give orders to the red and blue people they move accordingly with the power of whiskey

idea 4
I CHALLENGE YOU TO A ROCK OFF!!!
people organize a band (limit of 8-10 people) and the best looking show wins
can have dancers and playing instruments

dont flame unless your comment is funny

Ok, this thread needs to COME UP NOW! I have posted a poll on GWO, and I hope I continue to get input from you guys and girls here at Guru. Please, I want input. I have called upon Mog from GWO to be a co-host with me during the event planning stages as well as during the actual event.

Nintendo, I love the band idea! Great great great! Tic - Tac - Toe would need to be refined and well organized, but it has some potential!

Be creative guys, I want concepts. The ideas don't have to be flawless masterpieces of your inner soul, just rough sketches as to how events may function, what you think will be fun.

There will be a costume contest, but the format is to be decided. I will get back with you on that as we progress with plans.

Please Guru, I need feedback. If you help me, I PROMISE TO MAKE THIS HUGE AND FUN!

I am devoting over 4 million gold to the event, and UNLIMITED ale will be served (provided people don't exploit my generosity and try and horde 100s of ale for use in their ale hound title)

Oktoberfest is going to be great, but only if you guys and girls help me make it that way. Input, ideas, concepts, any form of support is more appreciated then you can imagine!

As for flaws with the ball, I will quote what I said on GWO.

"So, I know there were a few issues with my last contest, and a few people were upset for various reasons. Some of those reasons were legit, and as a result, I have/am going to take steps to avoid those mix ups and unfairness. An example of this will be the prize distribution. Rather then offering a few lucky people gigantic prize purses, I am going to offer nice prizes for almost every person if donations and my funding permit. Another example is organization and distribution of events. We had an issue with the costume contest, and some people were not included because of lack of organization. This WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. Period. I refuse to allow inequality to take place again on account of my lack of preparation."

So, with that said, let this thread pick up pace and let Oktoberfest get rolling full ale, I mean steam...

Love,

Rahja.

One of the things I have seen suggested as a guild event, and in fact something that me and a guildmate have done, is a hide and seek competition. Just choose an obscure outpost, and perhaps the first person to party you get's a prize.

As has been suggested, I think a Running competition might be fun; a nice simple run from say Ascalon to LA.

A Raffle might be good, and would help build funds for future events. You could charge people 1k, then give out stacks of various numbers of items. Then, when it comes time to raffle, you could say for instance "122 Grey, 67 yellow" and whoever had the stack of 122 grey dyes and 67 yellow dyes would win. I can easily imagine the logisitics of this becoming very difficult however.

Another suggestion is a Dodge Ball Tournament.

I don't know what you were planning, but I would suggest setting up a temporary Oktober[Fest] guild to facilitate this event, and have a guild hall. The Hall could be used for the costume contest, facilitate the Dodgeball tournament should you choose to have one. and anyone who signs up to be a steward at this event could join; It would make communication a lot easier. Please direagard this if you were already planning on doing this, just my two cents I think i saw at the last event that you had a [Ball] guild tag, but I wasn't sure if it was your normal guild or a temporary one like what i just mentioned.

BTW Here's a poster I made for fun becuase I had the idea floating around in my head. Use it as you please, and if you desire any changes I'd be happy to make them.

^^ Stunning poster Operative14!!!

Still collecting goodies for you for prizes, Rajah. I know storage was a problem for you for the Ball, so I'll keep them on my mules till you need them (alcohol, party favors and random golds that drop). May not be much in the grand scheme of things - but hope that it will help you build up a good stock.

That is a truly outstanding poster.

I'm still holding on to my alcohol for this event. Easy to do since I'm not playing much these days. Shoot me a PM here if I can be of any help. I still check the forum nearly every day to see if anyone wants to talk to me. lol

Amazing picture! I believe that will be the official poster for the event! Wonderful work! And yes, I was planning the custom guild. Hopefully staff members can join the guild, or ally their guild within the alliance.

Yes, running contest would be wonderful. However, hard to judge considering map travel... I would hope no one would cheat.

Any other super ideas or photoshop goodies I can use?

One thing you could do for the running competition is to just have trustworthy people tag along to make sure nothing... evil... happened

Super Ideas, none right now. Photoshop Goodies, what do you need?

I'm sure this may become time and/or staff intensive depending on applicants, but we could hold a race rally-style. Each runner goes on their own, along with a judge. The judge dies so that he/she can follow the runner more easily. The judge tells the runner to start, and times the runner from portal to portal (or maybe sign-post to sign-post). The judge then summs up the runner's total time and submits it to a master list. If the runner died en-route, they will be forced to start that leg over again (timer resets as well) if they spawn farther up than they had died, or simply keep going from where they spawn with the timer still running. I'm sure the rules would need to be balanced out depending on the route, but this is an idea, anyway.

I vote for henge as well.

The running contest sounds awesome (even though my mesmer would be useless). My idea for how to run(no pun intended) the running contest.'
1- Have each race held over several stages(ie areas) with points being awarded for the person who maps each area.
2- The winner of each race is the person who ends up with the most points at the finish line.
3- Cheating is avoided by having an observer who kills themselves at the start and watches (though this would require a lot of staffing) or have each person report the result separately so that if one person lies they will be caught out by the other people.
4- Possibly have play-offs between the players who get the best scores.

I'd like to see the return of the "catch me" contests where the first person to open trade gets a prize. This would be much more interesting in a huge area.

Have a worst dressed competition. A good outfit might be nice to look at but an atrocious outfit is hilarious.

Lucky door prizes.

I'll have a think and post more ideas if they come to me.

1. I think that it should be held at Henge of Denravi
2. Ill stock up on greens/golds/alcohol/candy for the event :P
3. GW:EN will be out by then. There might just be a big city there, also its in the Shiverpeaks with dwarves which fits perfectly with the event. The only downside might be availability.

Edit: I checked out Henge, and yes it is perfect. Huge, has a "stage" that is big and is visible from ALOT of different angles, no spam in local or trade chat, generally very few people, accessible.

::claps::

Im so excited about the event. I too, I have items to donate. A stack each of Red Bean Cakes and Rice Wine...thanks to the recent festival. And some minis, too.

At any rate, Simon Says could be fun. A Scavanger Hunt, too. Like obtaining collector drops, dyes and something a bit more challanging like a minipet as the difficult item to obtain. (which would also provide for future give-a-ways). Or and I-Spy Game. Trivia Game. A game of Tag. All may sound a bit adolecent, but fun all the same.

Thank you for your time, effort and generosity...it is sure to be fun.

Let me know if I can help in any other way.

How about a before and after poster of The fortune teller and some half naked ele? - Beer does that to me!

Hmm if we ever get a location (or have we?) I vote to get some mods done (for those who dare use them) simple things like puttin beer on the banners and the like, may not effect most people - But imagine how spectacular the screenshots and movies will be!

If you need me to help staff im always willing to manage the helpdesk liek i sorta got roped into last time ><

ya know bouncing around the districts telling people whats happening where, whens this happening, why is water wet (belive it or not thats because its water)

still looks like a dandy event (and yay for better planning ^^)

I think this is a fine event and all, and I support the endeavor (as well as Mog signing on to co-host), but what I can't endorse is your outright bashing the Guru community in the thread you set up on GWO. That, my friend, is "NO JOKE!"

Good luck with your event, but in protest of your attitude, I won't be there.

An idea for contest, I don't know if you already know. It came from Lumo the Mime in a mime duel (Tihark Orchard (Mission)).

Briefly about the contest:

1. A person will do some emotes (randomly*), the random emote will form a Boss name by combining the first letter of the emotes.

Example:

- Lich Lord: the emote person will use: /Laugh, /Cheer, /Highfive, /Laugh, /Ready, /Dance (no repetitive of emote, except if the emoter say that he/she going to repeat it)

- The missing letters will given to the contestant as a free hints: "There will be 1 "i" and 1 "o".

2. Any player in the same district can be the contestant, the contestant only need to solve the puzzle and be the first to type the answer in Local chat.

Addition(optional):

- Contestant must type the answer between "".
Example: "Lich Lord", answer without "" will not accepted

- Contestant only allowed to give 1 answer, otherwise his/her answer not valid.

3. There will be a judge, who will monitoring the answer

Thats it,
Gus

Note: I don't know if this kind of idea already exist~

Personally you cant beat a game of simon says (and if anyone met me in the last event they know this )

I say the only fair way to play is drunk, gather a group of drunken people and after the "Annoucer/Judge" says GO! the first person to match the 1st drunken emote s/he does wins!

(so simple after the go is the host deos a "I'm king of the world!" the first person to do that via drunkeness wins)

For locations, what about HzH or Cavalon? They are both busy spots, and most people by now have access to them. Also, Cavalon has the furniture already implemented for a party setting.

An idea I had when I woke up this morning. Creepy, ain't it? I need a life.

You could set up an online radio station to play Oktoberfest music for those blessed with fast connections. You could also use a DJ mode to make announcements. Not sure where you'd get the music, but my gaming community has a radio station and I might be able to dig up one for you to use.

My vote is still for Henge of Denravi. It's only 2 missions away for other campaign players. I just got my Dervish there in about an hour and a half the other day from the divinity coast mission. It also has kind of an Oktoberfestish feel about it; Green grass and such. And it has a few nice centralized areas that work well for partying. Though if there is a really neat, pretty much abandoned city, Dwarven city in GW:EN then I think it would be good to hold it there.

Your loss. But, I must add... I didn't bash the Guru community. I was ridiculed on the Guru community after the Ascalon Royal Family Ball; quite severely actually. Guru was the primary community focus for the Ball, GWO will be this time. If you find that to be bashing, then oh well.. but it was not intended to be. If I really was bashing the Guru community at large, I wouldn't invite them to the event now would I? Hope that helps clear some haze.

BTW! Awesome ideas have been posted by some of you!

I LOVE The Boss naming emote game idea! I will make sure to use that! Thanks a ton!

Radio station will be an interesting endeavor. I will look further into that, and update you when the time comes. It all depends on how far I get into planning stages and when things become concreted, but really a nice idea! Thx!

This event is already shaping up to be far better executed then the Ball and will hopefully be that much bigger! Cheers.

Oh, I have posted the official Wiki page and will continue to put updates there. Check up on it from time to time. Once the event is totally planned etc, all info will be found on the wiki page.

Here is the Oktoberfest page.

I think I have the ability to tell who I can trust and who I can't at this point. Just PM me in game at some point to discuss it with me if you want to. Requirements won't be needed, I think I will have the volunteers I need this time, and I am trying a new staffing format. Multiple duties for each staff member will cut the number of people needed down, and increase organization. The more members I bring in, the more chaotic it will become.

Is trade spam really going to be that big of a problem? They aren't allowed to spamm all chat specifically for reasons such as this, so if you turn of trade chat things will be fine. Droknar's seems like a good place ala Dwarf = Beer, but I like the idea of the Henge because the place is HUUUUGE and no-one ever goes there.

Actually, that poses an issue. You see, last event I used trade chat as "admin" chat. Since I don't have Gaile's pretty purple text, I am forced to use Trade CHat as a means to separate what I say from the massive public discussions. So, droks wouldn't work unfortunately.

I think those ideas would be great, and also i would love to volunteer for the staff.

heres a suggestion: the staff should have another means of communication like maybe a Vent or Team Speak.

also i agree taht HoD is a great place to hold the event.

I hope u allow me to help and if not its ok too but anyways have fun and good luck with the event.

Great ideas, sounds like much fun. I didn't attend the other events, but would like to help with this one any way i can. Forgive me if this has been suggested, I speed read the thread up to this point :P.
How about a Scavenger Hunt based on game lore? The first clue could be, for example:
"Travel to the home of the Eye of Janthir, and seek out (Staff Member name here) for the treasure you desire and a clue to your next objective."
Staff member would hang out in Divinity Coast (example) for a set amount of time (so they could attend the event as well) handing out some pre-determined collector item which would be turned in, along with the rest of the clue items for prizes-could have a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prize.

Admittedly, I am not great on game lore, so I would probably not be the best at creating the clues, but would definitely be willing to hang in a town and distribute the items. I also have a fair amount of booze & fireworks saved which I'd be willing to donate, and could farm some nice gold weapons as prizes. I'd also be willing to provide free runs (within reason:P) if needed to the event town once it's finalized.

Let me know if you could use the help
