Dumb Question about Conjures

Here is something that I've been bothered with for some time, although it isnt very imperative that it be 'fixed'.

if you have a firey bow string, why do you still need to conjure flame to have a fire weapon. Wouldn't the fire bow string take care of this for you?

the conjure flame just makes it do MORE damage... you already achieve the fire damage type with just have the mod. Its like asking how come dismember causes deep wound when you are already hitting them. it just does it additionally...

fiery bow strings just makes your bow deal fiery type damage.

conjure flame gives you a damage bonus if your weapon is dealing fiery damage.

what exactly were you expecting since your initial post didn't make a whole lot of sense.

Then the description of conjure is broken, because it says:

For 60 seconds, if you're wielding a fire weapon, your attacks strike for an additional 7...19 fire damage.


This would make me think that I dont need a fiery bow string at all, but everyone i talk to says conjure flame does nothing if you dont have a fiery bow string.

so thats my confusion.

ok,...let's talk this out. If you cast conjure flame on yourself and you aren't using fire damage bow, eg: no fire string on it, you will do no extra dmg at all. Switch to a fire dmg bow and bam! extra dmg. Same goes with conjure water, air.

You don't need confure flame to do fire damage, it just deals extra damage if you are.

Look next to the damage range of your bow, typically it would be piercing damage; however, if you have on a fiery string, it says fire damage. You deal fire damage whether or not conjure flame is up or not.

Unless you are using the preperation kindle arrows you do. Its a simple if/then logic statement. Should you not meet the "if" part of the skill description, so you wont get "then" part of it.

Though I suppose you are mildly right, though not for the reasons you state, that the description isn't correct. You don't need to be wielding a fiery weapon, just dealing fire damage. But a fiery bow string is the simplest way to meet the requirements.

what? english must not be your first language, because it says very clearly "if you're wielding a fire weapon". it says right in the description that you need a fire weapon. id dont even know what else to say. how is that at all confusing?

You've got it backwards. You don't need [skill]Conjure Flame[/skill] to use a fiery weapon. You need a fiery weapon for making Conjure Flame work.

The different types of damage - fiery, icy, etc. - that come from the weapon will make that weapon more or less effective depending on what you're facing. (Fiery weapon against Ice Imps in the shiverpeaks = better results. Fiery weapon against Magma Hydras in the Ring of Fire = worse results. etc.)

Firey bowstring makes your bow do fire damage, the same damage amount as any other bowstring (or with no special bowstring at all), just a different type of damage. This turns into a fire weapon, making it eligible and able to be used in conjunction with the spell "Conjure flame" to gain additional damage

Conjure Flame will make a bow that HAS a firey bowstring (or is a fire type weapon to begin with) do more damage, and that's ALL it does.

Bow = Piercing damage
Bow + Conjure flame = Piercing damage
Bow + Firey Bowstring = Fire Damage
Bow + Firey Bowstring + Conjure Flame = Fire damage + Extra from conjure flame

I seem to understand where you are mistaken, you seem to think that conjure flame will make your bow do fire damage, well it doesn't.

Conjure Flame will do the extra fire damage, if and only if the weapon is already causing fire damage.

So in order for Conjure Flame to trigger your weapon has to be dealing fire damage one way or another.

Conjure Flame doe s not change the damage type of your weapon, it only does extra damage if the condition is met.

1. to affect or influence by or as if by invocation or spell.
2. to effect, produce, bring, etc., by or as by magic: to conjure a miracle.
3. to call upon or command (a devil or spirit) by invocation or spell.

So you're conjuring the magical power of fire to enchance (+ damage) your fiery weapon.
