Out of Reach, But Not Out of Sight

In my many months of playing GW, I've seen chests spawn on the sides of hills, inside trees and hidden in passable, hollow "rocks". But, while out exploring the Crystal Desert for my Mesmer's Cartographer title, today is the first day I've seen a chest spawn in a place were you absolutely cannot gain access to it.

In The Scar, at the bottom of what looks like a ruined, ancient amphitheatre, sat a chest unreachable to all. A place where one has never spawned before, to my knowledge.

Why is the teleporter in the background the only one in the entire desert that doesn't work? Why is that area designated as a valid chest-spawn location? What item, no matter how useless, lay unclaimed in said chest? I'll never know.

Addendum: Ah, no more than 5 minutes after passing that chest, get what drops out of a Scarab? An Elonian Key! The sick joke continues...

eh you show a bad example because you can actually get to that chest. Use the teleporter ^^.
Though I have seen them on ledges and in trees :S

Those are the only 2 teleporters in the desert that are not functional. They lack the 4 switches for activation.

as he said, the teleporter doesn't work.(scroll to the bottom of the page) I've known that that teleporter didn't work but I too have never seen a chest spawn down there. Just assumed that they couldn't. hm....

Hmm I'm sure I've been down there once :S. I'll check now

*edit*
Ok just checked yes it is broken. But I think it used function though(can recall being down there once while exploring). They prob removed the activation stones because the teleporter served no purpose. (other then a dead end)

I love treasure chests that show up on the catapults on the ice in Ice Caves Of Sorrow mission...the catapults in the distance you cant possibly get to....

I've come across this one a few times, and another that I can't find the pic of:

I've had a chest spawn in the middle of a giant jade sea turtle when there was that wholoe thing with the kurzicks and luxons in Kryta. I'm guessing it was more the turtle's location fault than the spawning since normally it'd be an empty spot of grass. Guess Anet was too lazy to exclude that area from spawning chests for one weekend or however long the event was

Ooh! just reminded me, I found one in poisoned outcrops once also, right smack on top of the huge ridge just northeast from the lair of the forgotten.

the most common one iv seen is in city in DoA, chests spawn on the bloody wall! which are 100% unaccessible, really, they should look into these chest black spots, and make them so chests cant spawn there.

Hmm, with all these reports of inaccessible chests, maybe the powers that be (i.e. The Mods) should move this thread into the Game Bugs section.

The OP place used to be accessable, Anet obversly disabled the area for some reason or by accident.

I've seen many inaccessible chests in the desolation. I'll come back with the screenies.

Edit: Here we go. I think these were all in the same run.

I remember taking the screenshots to send to Anet, but forgot about it.

I've had an ancient chest spawn there too. I think they have to tweak their rand() a bit ^^

azrael-angel,

I believe the chest you are speaking about appears in the City up on the wall. That chest is in fact accessable from inside or outside the wall. It's a gimmick I agree but you can use the ; to select the chest and then space to run up to use it. The tricky part comes when you want to pick up the item that drops from the chest. You can back-up enough to click on the item with the mouse and then space to run to pick it up.

It's that wierd 3-d/non 3-d environment that is GW.
