I Love Anet. They put out a game that I love. They have fun events new chapters everything. I normally shake my head at those who scoff at anet for this or that. Yeah they cant make everyone happy but as a whole I think they do a great job.
Today my husband was running me to Cay. We figure we might as well make a lil gold in the process and found others to go too. The price was 2k everyone was good with it.
When we got to TOA he asked for half which everyone gave happily expect on ele. He wanted to pay when we got there which of course set of alarms and I know we should have kicked him there. He finally agreed to pay 600g and the rest at cay. Fine.
Of course once we get to Cay he leaves logs into another char and we proceed to have the following conversation.
The guy openly admits to scamming multiple runners and couldn't care less. Is it true Anet wont do anything? I mean I realize in alot of ways its a chance you take as a runner but shouldn't there be some sort of consequence?
Does Anet really not take any action?

Yep A-net deosnt take any action against people who scam runners or runners who scam runnies(if thats a word :P). Its because it must happen so often and they consider it quite trivial.

Running has always been a trade at your own risk type of service. It sucks to get scammed and it does happen every day. You can usually tell when someone is being difficult (i.e. oh I'll pay when we get there, or doesn't immediately follow rules, generally being a pain in chat, etc) When running, I never give the customer the benefit of the doubt. If I get a bad vibe from him/her, see ya - even if they did nothing wrong. Sometime you can just sense it.

While I'll admit that the person is a scoundrel, and should be shunned by the GW community, I doubt that s/he in any way violated the Anet EULA. Therefore, they would not be banned.

With proper documentation I do think it's possible that Anet will give him a temp ban.
I do think there is some kind of no-griefing thing mentioned in the EULA

All you can do is report the bum. If A-Net takes action against the loser, then good. If not, it won't be because you didn't do anything about it. The bottom line is, there is no chance of a scammer getting banned if they're NOT reported.

You can report him, but it's not going to solve anything. Anet are not going to take any sort of action against something like that. Yeah, it sucks, and the guys is a jerk, but he wasn't breaking any rules, and it would be extremely difficult to prove anything. They couldn't ban an account over that, it would only result in a lawsuit.
But yeah. It wasn't really that much money, you at least made something from it. In the future, just be sure to ask for the money half way through, and if they won't pay, then they are more than probably up to something.

From my time playing GW i've seen a lot of this nonsense and Anet define runs, and alike services, to be 'gentlemen's agreements' to which an element of risk is always involved. You can't trust a stranger 100%.
From Anet's point-of-view, policing this is far too time-consuming. People cried when Factions had locked gates to prevent running (and, therefore, scammzorz!) and people cry when they get scammed with runs so it's QQ all around.

like others have said, both parties involved [runners and runnies] assume a certain amount of risk. scamming takes place ALL the time in this game. you just have to be diligent to avoid being a victim. at least you got some of the money.

I doubt anet will do anything in this case. Only thing we can do is just not associate with these losers. There should be a name and shame thread somewhere. Is there one?

To the OP, sorry about that, but its somewhat common and indeed very frustrating. Not for the 1-2k and small pocket change etc, but simply on principle. I used to run a lot, but I now mostly just do it for fun or for friends the rare times I do. I dont run strangers so much anymore unless they pay up front (if I'm not doing it for free) or I have the ability to collect payment at a zone midway in the run and can leave them stranded if they wont pay.
I wish Anet would give us another "Friends" channel onto which we can add people who are leavers, scammers, spammers and the other silliness we all run into. Inifinite list.

I always trust people and sometimes they are not nice ...... that's life.
I still trust people and take the risk hoping that both side are honorable, I am.
PS. Usually the runners want to see the money before they allow you on their groups so they are sure but you are not!

It seems like in almost every run I've been a part of (usually as the runee) there's always one low life who cuts and runs at the first outpost. I don't do runs for profit but if I did I would probably just build that into my profit forecast, it's sad but it's the way things are.
I usually tip 1/4 of the cost of the run at the end when this happens, I'm not sure why, it certainly isn't my fault, but I feel bad for the runner. Restore a little faith in humanity and whatnot ;p. And it only costs 500g.

Last time I got run in the desert (on of the missions) I gave the runner 5k because some lamer suddenly said he had no money on that char.
Maybe runners should ask to see the money in the trade window first, I know some do - just a reminder to you runners.

i stopped running along time ago once the deadbeats started out numbering the honest people. i was getting tired of more then 1/2 the people in the party leaving as soon as i would zone into town. once in awhile ill still run guildies or alliance mates but thats it now

I've been there, but there are some methods you can use to help weed-out scammers. Ask them to show you the gold in advance is one way. For that particular run, ask for full payment when you enter the final zone. It's an easy run from that point, but the scammer won't be able to solo it without a running build if you and the party bail on him. Just get the group to meet you back at ToA, sans scammer. Extra work, but don't give the guy the satisfaction of getting off with it.
Also when a guy won't pay at half-way for an easy Sanctum run you can pretty much assume that he has no intention of paying at all. The fact that he 'negotiated' for 600g should have set the alarm bells off that this kid has no gold to pay with anyway.

While getting payed by the others the wamo already started to ran, popped & agro'ed everything which led me to die at the birds :S. After going through the troll cave the wamo evantually entered the city. Worse run ever

Lesson made for anybody else, You run You are Team Leader. If in doubt just kick and get other clients. I know I learned the tiresome way

What ticks me off about this most of all is the fact that the dude plain out said that ANET is a bunch of retards that wont ban him for scamming. Now I know they can't ban him for the scam but ANET should be able to ban him for saying they can't do anything and he can mess up the game how ever he wants. There is a Rules of Conduct policy that ANET has as well and he clearly broke that policy by saying that ANET will not ban and that he scammed all over the place and was basicly laughing at the thought of ANET being able to ban him. I think he should be ban for that fact. I mean I understand that people get scammed everyday of every second in GW but ANET needs to stop and think over a period of time when the buttheads and scammers start to out weight the good and honest players that it is time to start taking action because the fact that ANET didn't do anything after calling ANET out is really ticking me off and could cause about 5 people in my family to stop playing the game altogether because ANET doesn't have any action or plans to deal with people like this. I mean COME ON! he calls them out and they go bow down to him because he is a player and customer to the game.
Shame on you ANET but maybe shame on me for supporting a company that screws over there users because they have no back bone and will lose more players because they do not take action against these people. I mean saving one stupid scammer / butthead worth losing 5 or more honest players?

So I payed the runner double, wasn't my fault that the guy was scum, and it was nice to see how appreciative the runner was.
So yeah, along with what other people said here, I also only run things for friends or for fun. Like when the first Halloween event happened, I ran a bunch of newbies from Ascalon to LA so they wouldn't miss it. It isn't worth it to run places for money anymore in my opinon.
