Everlasting ID and Salvage kits
Riot Narita
I always have an ID kit and a Salvage kit, and when they're used up, I buy new ones. Personally I get through a lot of ID kits.
What I'd like is a new type of ID kit and Salvage kit that never get used up. Instead, it would simply remove gold from my inventory eg. 20g per salvage, and 5g per ID (same cost as the current superior kits). Obviously if you have no gold, the kit won't work.
This new kit would be either significantly more expensive to buy than other types of kit, or the cost per use would be higher than the current Superior kits. That means you pay for the convenience of not having to buy the regular kits all the time.
The regular, expert, and superior kits would remain unchanged for those who don't want the cost/convenience of the Everlasting ones.

Actually this is a good idea, but they should be very difficult to get, like everlasting beetle tonics.

I don't see how you can burn through 100 ID's quickly enough to make you want to pay more for an ID. I use the collectable quest rewards (Luxon Totems, etc) for these kits, and they last forever. If 100 isn't enough, get 2 kits. 200 ID's lasts forever.

Mind you paying a premium for the ID would kill the slight profit you get from IDing the whites.

You ID whites?
Wow wish i had money to waste

Only from the UW, you make a slight profit from doing so.
I don't ID whites from any other area.

If you don't do any farming, then obviously you could stick to the regular kits, and not bother with Everlasting ones. They wouldn't disadvantage you in any way, but would provide a convenience to others.

I think it would be better if you could get a blank kit and you add ID/salvage amounts to it so you can add as many as you want/need.
As for ID'ing whites, it is not a waste of money, if you ID 2-3 whites the extra value more then makes up for the actual price for an ID kit. I've ID'd whites since I figured out their value can almost double on an ID. ID an item worth ~40 gold and then sell it for ~80-90 gold it's worth it. I don't understand why people don't ID whites, maybe if they are from noob areas but any white dropped by level 20+ foes tend to sell for a lot more if ID'd.

Yeah what a waste.. spending 4 gold for an extra 75% gold when sold to vendors. Horrible...

Myeah ... I always carry an Expert Identification Kit and an Expert Salvage Kit in my inventory too. Now, the only issue I see with the suggestion from the OP is: wouldn't this throw out too much realism?
5 gold, actually.
Back in 2005, I found out that IDing whites past Droknar's was worth it. I ID whites from lvl 20+ areas ever since, which is where I get the bulk of my income from (I'm not so lucky with rare finds).

I dont see the difference between this idea and just buying a new ident or salvage kit.
If you consider that a superiour ident kit has about 100 uses, its probably going to cost you the same or more using your system, then it would to buy a new one.
It just seems pointless. It also means you can id something if you dont have gold! What if your wanting to ID something to actually make gold? Its anti-productive!
Its better to buy an item for its entire cost, knowing how many uses you have left.

I was pondering this the other day.
Wouldn't it be a great reward for beating all the missions in chapter 1, if you got an everlasting identification and/or salvage kit, customized to your character?

Kool Pajamas
Or maybe a Super ID kit that gives you 5,000 ID's for the cost of 25k.

And don't tell me - it's MY fault you don't get it, isn't it? Even though everyone else seems to understand perfectly?
Warrior Of The Toon
I'm not too keen on this idea, for the realism side of it =( However maybe having a chance to retain an ID/Salvage kit (which improved with wisdom) would work...

yeah, i'm on board with either the, "you'll never use up your kit while in the instance," idea and wisdom-based charge-not-used idea.
i tend to unload any gold on my characters into storage whenever i get the chance though so i probably wouldn't use them often.
i'd even be game to go the next step and have a guardian/vanquisher reward that never used any charges since there's really no crafting economy in the game anyway.
lol, i went through an id'ing whites and blues phase too. now i just occassionally id blues if i get a "good feeling" about it.
