I can get max sunspear quite easily within two days on a character. And in a few hours I can get rank 9. So it is quite easy (if boring) to increase the effectiveness of the sunspear skills. Since I have 0k faction on either of the faction titles (and I'm willing to bet that many people haven't gotten the first level of the faction titles, unlike the sunspear title track), it would take me a long, long time to get to the max level. Sure it's account-wide, but it's still a long time, and I have two accounts. Furthermore, factions has been out a long time now. If they were going to add these skills they should have done this at the start of the game. Not when most people are finished with it. I've already brought all my characters through factions, accomplished all my aims, and spent 137k kurzick faction (on one account) on amber. I have nothing else I want to do there. Now I have to return to do nothing but grind for weeks to get some good skills? Not to mention that it almost feels insulting to not have our past faction counted towards the titles now that getting amber does count. There was utterly no incentive for many players to transfer faction to an alliance that they didn't have. So why would they? Now it feels we've been punished for this decision. And they gave us no hint that they were doing this. I bought some Kurzick armor just recently... at least if they told us I could have waited so getting the amber counted. What's next? Making PvE only skills that are based on the drunkard title? The treasure hunter title? If these skills have to be based on titles, don't base them all on different titles, especially ones that are so much work! Now, in PvE at least, those who grind more have the advantage over casual players or those who don't want to have to grind many different titles. And I expect to see more skills linked to more titles in gw:en. Skill over time spent? Not in PvE. |

imo title based skills are nice cos they give extra benefit for those who use their time to earn it. at least its better then just having a title beneath your name. |
but 100,000 faction spent thats required before you can even think about purchasing the skill is... and a few 100,000 more to make it effective...

Buying a skill of 3k faction returns you 6k to the title o.O
didn't read it here before but that's pretty neat, but still around 70% of all gw players (assumption based on my guildies) won't have higher then R1 of alliance title.

Oh and I will pass along a link to this thread for the designers, so please continue to test and post your reactions to the skills.
Thanks.

i just think the free update'ness is cool...unfortunately i don't gather enough kurz/luxon faction that i'll ever get one of these..
Mouse at Large
I'm not a faction farmer - only did enough so I could complete all the missions. So, am I pissed off - HELL NO!
If I want any of the skills, I'll go farm faction to get it, if I don't, I won't. It's my choice. However, I kind of look at this like the real world. I don't expect everything I'd like to have to be handed to me on a plate with no effort on my part. If I want something, I expect to do a bit of work for it. Either that, or I decide it's not worth the effort and spend my time doing something else.
Either way, it's my choice

I would apologize for the sarcasm, but this is really how it is for almost everyone I've played with so far this saturday. The skills are unattainable for a great many people.
Pickletron
I love all the new skills except for the Triple Shot ranger one.
10e and 10r for 3 really weak arrows, sure you could use them with preparations like Ignite Arrows but its energy and recharge are out of whack to me.

I'd advise Anet to keep a watchful eye on the 2 ele skills these could be perfectly fine or overpowered.

Also I would like to suggest that you make the Paragon skill "There's nothing to Fear" somehow linked to Leadership to encourage primary Paragon play.
Also the sooner you decide good nerfs the less "ZOMG ANET YOU NERF MY X BUILD I HATE YOU ARRRGG" comments you'll get.

Just a thought - these skills are largely unlinked for a reason - they encourage people to think outside the box with regard to secondaries. Personally, I like the idea of E/P carrying "There's Nothing to Fear", and W/A with Critical Agility.
Why all the fuss about linking these to primary professions. Try them out as secondaries first, see how they synergise before complaining.
After all, if you don't like them, you don't have to use them

I meant indirectly linked. As I said much like Seed of Life. It is unlinked but the healing is dependant on divine favor. Afterall there is no fun in using a skill for your primary profession if everyone under the sun can use it to the same effectiveness.

THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX??!?!
Have you seen the rit skills, rigid as you get...there both for spirits - so touch luck you restoration rits, weapon spellers, channeling rits, MM's, SPirit strengths (ok that last one get the sin skill...ill live)
Its like makeing both ele skills only effect water magic...ho-hum

I think the most compelling argument against the implementation of these Kurzick/Luxon skills is that PvE-only skill acquisition and advancement is linked to what has essentially been a PvP title. It's nice that ANet has included a PvE mechanism for gaining faction as part of the update, but lets be honest: the pace of faction gain via PvE farming alone is going to be exceedingly slow (especially in comparison to the much more reasonable Sunspear progression path). If players were likely to have built up a fair amount of faction through normal play, this might not be such a big deal. Even casual PvE players have likely achieved at least some advancement on most PvE-centric titles by this point. However, I believe most PvE-only players have accrued little to no Kurzick/Luxon faction simply because it's outside the scope of what they (by definition) prefer to focus on: PvE play.
Perhaps this is an attempt to steer PvE players towards PvP play. I can appreciate the sentiment, but ultimately I think it's more likely to frustrate PvE players than to encourage PvP experimentation simply because of the enormous PvP commitment required to max these PvE skills. One could argue that because there are both PvE and PvP options for faction gain (unlike Sunspear points, which can only be earned via PvE play) the greater requirements to max these skills are justified. But again the problem is that presumes PvE players are willing to commit themselves to heavy PvP play in addition to PvE farming, and that's quite a lot to ask. Even if faction was rewarded retroactively as many are calling for, I doubt that would be enough to solve the problem. There really needs to be a more PvE-centric mechanism for measuring progression towards these skills.
One thing I would like to say is that I appreciate and accept that acquisition of powerful skills like this should require an investiture of time and effort. I'm not opposed to a certain level of grind to be able to get the most out of powerful skills. But since they are PvE-only, a mechanism that rewards PvE play would probably be superior to the one being used now.

Otherwise you guys will be basically saying; “The AI does not have to play by the rules and can cheat, but the player base has to respect those rules.” I know we can dispute the fact that it takes skill in some of these areas. However for the majority, these skills maybe is what ends up having some people actually try Hard Mode (like in RoT).

Please ANet, also count faction spent in the past to Amber (or scrolls) to the title. Thanks!

If anything the PARAGON one should have been linked to Leadership, whether directly or indirectly.
One of these would help:
-For every rank in leadership it heals 5% more
-costs 1 energy less per rank in leadership
-for every rank in leadership you gain one energy per party member

That combined with [skill=text]Spear of Fury[/skill], makes Primary paragons wanted, adding in [skill=text]"Save Yourselves!"[/skill], gives you an uber leet P/W.

Th rt skill is godly. Makes Boon spirit spamming a much more viable pve build now.

I don't mind the sunspear skills linked to a title due to the fact that you gain that title while working though the story. Where as you don't gain your kurz/lux title during the story mode. They are PvE skills after all not PvP skills. I personally love all the skills, I just wish that they would be linked to an attribute vs. a title.

I think that all faction *ACQUIRED TO THIS DATE* should be added to the track for everyone, for the sake of fairness. However, in the future, in order to gain points in the track, you must spend faction, not simply earn it (because when you spend faction, you lose faction with the other side, blah blah blah).

i just hope they only buff the ele skills (or just don't change them at all). This goes for all classes o/c but especially some underpowered skills like the mesmer's, the ranger's and the warrior's.
