Me/E

Well, a few days ago i made my first Me/E. I was wondering, due to the mesmer's weak armor stats is using the elementalists defensive skills such as ward against melee a good idea?

Ward Against Melee isn't a bad skill, to be sure. It depends really on how much protection you're trying to provide your party members with as opposed to buffing your own armor. If you want to protect the party, then the Ward spells are good. If you're more concerned with increasing your own survivability, based on the areas you'll be in for PvE you can determine which Inspiration skills will be best suited: Physical Resistance, Elemental Resistance, and the four Mantras, one for each element.

Most of the time, to be honest, if you're careful about aggro management with heroes, henchmen, or your human teammates, you won't be at that much risk, and you won't have to devote too much of your skill bar to armor boosts.

elementalists get the same 60 armor as mesmers. If you're finding it hard to keep yourself alive, you're doing something wrong.

Kiting helps but If your having problems in PVE with defence add an offensive AOE skill to your bar like[skill]bed of coals[/skill]or even [skill]chaos storm[/skill] works but for this skill target the creature that is bashing you. The AI reacts and runs away giving you time to recoop or move ETC..

Defenses for the Mesmer:

[skill]spirit of failure[/skill][skill]physical resistance[/skill][skill]elemental resistance[/skill][skill]mantra of flame[/skill][skill]mantra of frost[/skill][skill]mantra of lightning[/skill][skill]mantra of earth[/skill]

Choose one mantra if you feel the need.

Ward vs Melee will not save you from non-melee attacks (ranged, or spells).

[skill]armor of frost[/skill][skill]kinetic armor[/skill] are two good spells to consider as well.

Wards are good if you just want to stand there with other spellcasters. If you are forced to move (from a meteor or maelstrom) you will leave the ward protective area and are once again susceptable to harm.

I suppose you could use them, but I don't see a huge push to. If you stay in the backlines, you should be fine. Kiting is your friend, and your tank should be managine aggro anyway.

Armor of Earth is a decent option, as long as the speed decrease doesn't totally kill you. I prefer the different mantras and methods in the Inspiration Line though.

If Kinetic Armor is cast using Signet of Illusion does it keep the same armour bonus when it is renewed?
