The new Melandru's Resilience, cheesy sideeffect
MrFuzzles
[skill]Melandru's Resilience[/skill]
This week they improved MR by giving it +1 health regen and lowering it's recycle time to 15. I used this skill a lot before the update as it was an incredible anti-dot-stacking skill, but with these new changes I feel it's a bit too much.
One sideeffect that I find a bit cheesy (I'm not sure if this is was taken into consideration or even intended when making the change) is that you can walk into lava, flick on MR, and have -0 health degen and 2 additional energy regen. With the new recycle time, you can keep MR up 100%.
This gets a bit silly on the random/team arena lava map. The advantages are +2 energy regen and more or less immunity from melee classes, while the only disadvantage is that you get crippled until you exit.
Overall I just feel that the reduction in MR's recycle time or the +1 health regen would have been enough by themselves, but not combined.
Changing lava to an Environmental Effect would deny you this trick alltogether, but I'm not sure if that's what I'd want. I enjoyed it before when I could choose to ++energy/-hp, as it had some strategic value. My beef with it now is that it seems to be "always best" to do it.

Most of the latest skillbalances was to buff underused skills. MR is a great skill, but you rarely see it being used.
And if you feel it is "overpowered" why would you want it to change? (:

You should be getting +1 health regeneration, as you'd have burning (-7) and crippled (no degen) and 2x +4 health regeneration.
An interesting build to say the least, taking advantage of the environment. How Ranger-like!

bro, i've said this before and i'll say it again. i think most rangers and mesmers in the game suck at playing those classes and anet therefor buffs the snot out of them.
[skill]needling shot[/skill]
need i say more? i feel a little embarassed about it sometimes. this is what i do:
1. go into ab
2. [skill]read the wind[/skill]
3. target a caster
4. [skill]pin down[/skill] and swap to the vamp bow
5. [skill]burning arrow[/skill] followed by maybe a regular shot.
6. [skill]needling shot[/skill][skill]needling shot[/skill][skill]needling shot[/skill] and when applicable, [skill]needling shot[/skill] again with the occasional [skill]distracting shot[/skill]
and after that, i feel way better about it. i have always liked melandru's but tend to go for more dps with my style. i hear you, man. but really, just run with it (it is an elite stance after all...rangers should be good at that kinda crap). as a matter of fact, i would've thought the new pve-only skills for ranger would cover more hex/condition stuff instead of the luxon quasi-elite version of a pre-searing skill and the sunspear "never have less than 16 expertise".
i never thought about standing in fire. that's awesome. wonder if there's a good r/p idea out there yet for the wearying spear move with melandru's and all those big e-intensive group energy shouts. probably gimped with just that but it would be interesting.

I only just purchased factions and nightfall a few days ago (pretty much put GW aside a couple months after release. EotN sparked my interest recently), so I've yet to get those skills. Needling shot is looking sweet though. I'm gonna have to try it with Fav Winds as well.
And yeah, I'm not gonna claim that standing in lava with MR is like.. super game-breaking imba, I just feel it was a bit weird with how there are almost no penalties involved. I wouldn't really count being crippled, as you can end that within a few seconds by walking out of the pool and anyone chasing you will be crippled as well (and burning without MR).
It's just the "always a good idea" aspect of it that bugs me a bit. Kale makes a point that it's a ranger taking advantage of the environment, but that doesn't explain why MR doesn't work on coral!
Maybe it would be an idea to make lava into an environmental effect, and have MR include environmental effects in it's criteria?
By the way, if someone cripples me for like 20 seconds and I walk into lava, does the 3-second lava cripple overwrite the previous one?

Yes, each new application of a condition overwrites the previously existing one.

Comeon, its not new, monks can even use it better now, in combination with draw conditions. It doesnt mean u become invincible or something.
MrFuzzles
I'm not at all saying there's anything wrong with it otherwise. The only thing I feel is a bit out of place is the standing in lava thing. I'm not calling it overpowered, imba, broken, or anything like that. Just that I preferred it before when stepping into lava had benefits as well as drawbacks.
bungusmaximus
Ever tried it on a sin? man its too good, you can keep it up for ever. I killed someone with spoil victor on me this afternoon :P But i'm doubting. MR only helps the person it's on, if I would take, say, mending touch I could also help teammates with it, with MR this isn't possible.
ArKaiN
Way too good now. Can be kept up at Wilderness 9, and since it's a stance, even the dumbass heroes can keep it up(check out 1x1 tournaments)

I love Melandru's Resilience, so I won't complain about the update.
HawkofStorms
I loved this skill even before the update. Good buff to an underused skill. Really this is only game breaking in RA/TA. Most monks will strip conditions off people automatically.
