Purchase a slot, can you lose it?
DirtyDirty
I have all 4 slots used up with Factions characters. I want to buy more, however I'm trying to find out if there's any catches. If I buy a new computer next month and install my GW game on that with the same cdkey as I'm using on this computer, will the game recognize the extra slots I've purchased from the first computer I installed the game on? ... or will I only see 4 filled slots? ... or 4 empty slots?
And will these extra character slots appear with other campaigns I buy later on like Prof or Night, or EN and GW2? And how many am I allowed to have total? Is there a limit? And once they've been purchased, is there anything that can cause them to be deleted forever?

you will keep your slots and characters if you buy a new computer and install guildwars.
The slots will only appear with other chapters if you link the chapters. aka add a cd key to an existing chapter rather than play the game as a stand alone.

your characters (account) are linked to your email addy--not the computer you run gw on. I currently have gw installed on 2 computers --a desktop and a laptop (for travelling purposes). So there is no need to worry about losing your characters when you change computers.

Also GW1 you won't be able to link to GW2 as it will be a totally separate game.
But there will be a Hall of Monuments in GW.EN GW1s next chapter for Titles and whatever is finally decided
to carryover from GW1 to GW2 but not Gold/cash.

So is it meant to work like this?
GW1
4 chapters with all your characters accessible)
Prof
Fact
Night
EN
GW2: (4 new chapters. No past accessible characters, so make new ones)

It normally goes like this:
Buy first chapter - 4 slots
Add second chapter - +2 slots
Add third chapter - +2 slots
Thus with three linked chapters you have 8 slots.
As of now, ArenaNet has not indicated that there will be any additional slots with GW:EN as there is no character creation in the expansion (it is not a new standalone chapter).
When the additional slots were offered for purchase last year, I believe it was stated that you could buy up to 26 slots.
GW2 will not have the chapter system. We do not know how many slots will come with the game.

GW is a game that you can run from anyone's computer that has the client installed. This is great for when you visit friends with GW and want to play your own characters.

I think the max was 27?

GW is saved to the Anet servers - saved remotely. Nothing is saved locally on your hard-disk. I too have GW installed on two different computers. The only difference I see is that if I visited a zone on one computer but not the other, I take a few extra seconds to zone while that zone downloads to my computer.
That's the only difference you should expect.
