I want a good PvE char that can pretty much solo most parts of the game. I don't know much about Guild Wars yet, but the char people pointed me at so far is Elementalist.
Can somebody point me in the direction of an excellent PvE char build? I currently have a Level 6 Elementalist with all unused attribute points.
What build is good for me?

First, welcome to Guild Wars!
Now, since you are relatively new, I would STRONGLY suggest you simply play your character, picking and choosing the skills as you see fit. It gives you a greater understanding of the profession's capabilities and weaknesses. You don't need to worry about being "perfect" or even farming until much later in the game (you'll need some gold to get the runes, skills , elites, armor, etc. and then also actually be in said spots.)
Honestly, I really hate to see new players wanting to use builds right away. It seems to lock one in the mentality that you can only play "meta-approved" builds, and that anything other than that is "useless, weak, etc."
Play something YOU came up with, you will feel much better about it.
When you're done with that, take a look at http://www.pvxwiki.com/wiki/Main_Page

As far as solo, you need to be more specific... Any character can solo the entire game with henchmen and/or heros with them (meaning you don't need other live players). But if you mean solo as in 'just your character and nobody else' then there really isn't one class that can do it all.

A character that's easy to level at low levels is a Warrior/Monk.
Great Hammer and Sword skills that you pick up from the early missions + monk self-healing spells will let you solo without henchmen. I made a warrior and took him to lvl 10 quickly with this method - but the downside is that warriors become boring fast.
Another combination (that I picked up on last night) was the Assassin/Necro. These are a lot of fun to play and have an interesting number of spells - that work well together. Necro spells let you hex while assassin spells let you do more damage if your foe is hexed - plus my assassin-weapons elongate bleeding if my foe is hexed - really a great combo class.
My main character has been a Mo/* where * = Ranger, Warrior, Mesmer. Honestly monk's aren't for me, but they are easy to level because they're essential in every group/quest/mission - so that's a sure bet. The reason I don't like playing my monk is because I sit and stare at the life bars the majority of the time - this becomes REALLY boring
. But the positiver side about having played my monk to lvl 20 and to almost beating prophecies (couple more missions) is that I've unlocked a plethora of spells that my Monk Heroes now have access too - including elites.
If I were you, I would go with a Warrior/Monk, Warrior/Ranger, or Elementalist/Mesmer.
Their great tanks and spikers - check out pvxbuilds.com for build information - but as mentioned above - study your own character, make your own build. Guild Wars has a lot more strategy then any other RPG I've ever played - makes it very addictive.
These are just my opinions
