Lead designer shares details on new skills, the Charr homeland, and thoughts on sexy dance numbers

I'm hyped about the dungeon crawling aspect that's getting promoted:

And when Ben was talking about the Light of Deldrimor earlier, one of the abilities is the ability to uncover secrets. That's really important because it's actually a skill that is really well-geared for basically dungeon crawling. And so to be explicit about the types of secrets the Light will reveal are things like hidden doors, secret passages, that kind of thing.

Hmm...although they may make alot of retail boxes, I plan on buying mine through the online store. It's alot faster...and all of the content will have most likely already been preloaded.

Who knows...

Well a good look through the article pretty much indicated there will be little to no changes in PvP, but that was sorta obvious from the beginning. Poor, poor PvP'ers

I'm pretty excited for GW:EN....although I have no idea how long this will hold me before GW2 arrives.

However I'm REALLY wondering when Anet's going to set a date for release. For the past 3 days, 3 seperate interviews with information have arrived, and that leads me to speculate that the annoucement of the date of release is coming very soon.

GameSpot sounds good as well as it will all be lvl 20 content and skill quests.

Pretty nifty info

What im wondering is if there is going to be a CE. I would like to get the ingame collectors edition along with normal GW:EN content, without the real life stuff, just more convienient for me. I dont like running to EB games and stuff........too much hassle, and it would be a nice option, maybe only have it on the online store for 30 days.

The article stops just short of spilling the beans on all the juicy tidbits. Some new info though, I'd say it was a worthwhile browse nonetheless.

Sexy dancing =? though.

I also hope they are close to the Sunspear and LB titles in terms of the grind they require.

I wounder how the hall of monuments will handle multiple characters wanting to visit it, since people will want to show off their hall.

You know zinger, last I checked GW is a RPG. There is always grind in RPGs and as long as it is fun and not to steep (SS) and not boring and tedious (Befriend/LB) then it shouldn't be a problem.

I also find it curious that they stepped around the GW:EN=Gwen thing. This, to me, gives credit that this is probably true. Also kind of disappointed about what they said about the Charr. I really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really wanted a Charr hero.

EDIT: The PR dude that ANET hired has been working overtime with all the interviews he has setup in the past couple weeks.

And what makes you sure that the titles won't be like SS and LB?

Remember, ArenaNet has to hold GWEN players over until GW2, and the industry-proven method is grind.

Also, the PC Gamer article virtually confirmed that Gwen is a hero.

I enjoyed the article. Can't wait to get my hands on GW:EN and GW2.
Grind ? Who cares if there is grind or not. People who love playing Guild Wars will continue to play. People are so forgetting that in GW2 we will be getting the sidekick system which will allow people to catch up to others.

GR: But little has been said about the third new race, the Sylvari. Are you going to be able to acquire them as one of the heroes as well?

Miller: No. You won't be able to get a Sylvari hero. But, in general, you can look at Guild Wars Eye of the North as a prologue - lore wise - to Guild Wars 2. So there's going to be plenty of stuff that will be hinted at and left wide open…

GR: Can you tell us a little bit more about the background of the Sylvari then?

Miller: I think the last time I did, it was with three ellipsis…
Yep they're not saying anything about the Sylvari and leaving us to wonder.

Of course that just makes me want to buy GW:EN more so....ARRGG.

I hope so; that way I'll just keep sending her into lvl 24+ mobs to see her die. MUAHAHAHAHA.

They're not saying anything about the Sylvari because they probably won't play such a large part in GW:EN as the other races. The PC Gamer article said that players would 'witness their birth' or something, but not much more than that.

It seems strange how they dodged around the Gwen question, saying it's only speculation... when the PC Gamer article told us that we would see her, and even gave us a picture.

I was hoping that the 'Sexy dances' part would be about a new selection of dance emotes in GW:EN... oh well

Again, I'm disappointed about the lack of PvP information, which indicates that there won't be much new for that side of the game. They keep saying how they want Guild Wars to 'go out with a bang' with GW:EN... but it looks to me like PvP is being left out of that.

I'm interested about this 'most unique loot and experiences that Eye of the North has to offer' in the dungeons. Miller prefaced that by talking about how greens were introduced in Sorrow's Furnace and that carried over to Factions and Nightfall (ellipsis...). So is this 'unique loot' more greens - which would frankly be just horrible - or something different?

PvE skills and race reputation sound good, as long as it isn't too much of a grind... because the way they're talking about it, it seems like this will be an integral part of game progress. I'm actually quite glad the Charr haven't been included in this. I never quite understood how we would manage to become allies with the savage creatures that tore up Ascalon.

A good read, but left much unanswered as usual. Still, I'm looking forward to it all. I hope the transfer of effort from creating new professions and newbie areas to level 20 content delivers.

Yeah but how many times has PvE gotten pushed aside for PvP so it kind of evens itself out I guess haha.

The problem with gw is not because of grind, but grinding doesn't reward you. In any other rpg, grinding gives massive rewards, but here people grind for greens that are basically not much better than ones bought from merchants. So there you have it, gw pve is a grind because there is nothing to do end game wise other than grinding and couple that with the lack of rewards makes end game gw pve unbelievably boring

The point of GW is that grind is unnecesary.

This is exactly why gw pve is broke. On the one hand it tries to be a 'grindless' game, letting players get max items quickly and finish the game as fast one day(Faction). On the other hand it have titles, most of them utterly useless, but most if not all are more grinding than any other games. Add to the fact that there is no endgame at all. Grinding out in Doa for a couple hours for items that is hardly better than what a merchant sells is hardly fun, but is the closest thing to what gw has in term of endgame...

Actually, is exatly why GW PvE was great (before pve skills were introduced.).

If you choose to grind, you should expect only "I grinded and all i got is this t-shirt" thing.

You see, max weapons/armor are supposed to be tools, not goals. same with reaching max level or other similar stuff.

Proper endgame should be player realizing that he "did it all and had fun" and stop playing instead of asking anet for carrots to hunt. If he still has fun, he should be free to set his own goals and reach them but not require those golas to be title tracks.
