Drop Rates (plz read)

I was just wondering the drop rates if a full party joined a game, then split up, would the drop rates of a 3/8 party still be scaled to 8/8 (if the other 5 were still in the game)? Second question, do you still get drops if you are dead, but still in the radar of the monsters death? If not, would a 5/8 party be scaled to 8/8 (assuming 3 people are dead in the radar)?
