Bed of Coals: most useless skill ever?

Assuming 16 Fire Magic,

Bed of coals:
- 31 damage a second for 10 seconds = 310 + 6 seconds of burning when knocked down
- relies on foes standing still
-10 energy, 1 cast, 30 recharge (PBAOE)

The sad part is even firestorm wins out:
firestorm = 37 damage a second over 10 seconds = 370 damage
10 energy, 2 cast, 30 recharge (ranged)

I mean 1 cast time is nice and all, but it is PBAOE first of all...and you need things to be standing still for 10 seconds which is impossible over a 10 second duration unless the targets are casting meteor shower under arcane conundrum.

It's used in farming builds, in conjuction with Meteor Shower and some other stuff. Besides, it's a huuuge AoE for a pointblank - it can be used in tight situations to keep the melee off a few party members.

Now... Point Blank Shot.
There's a useless skill.

Hmm, the only usage I ever see for this skill is the A/E smite farmer. Used in conjunction with MS and other AoE skills to deliver heavy damage.

It is used in E/A builds after meteor shower.

I love bed of coals. It's supposed to be used with KDs.

Uh bed of coals is point blank. So unless you are standing in your own meteor shower I don't see how it is useful. (Aside from farming)

I like the skill, you use it when melee breaks aggro and jumps into your backline as a pseudo-Ward that drives them away. I can rarely find room for it on my bar however.

Bring it on a melee char and set targets on fire when you knock them down (or standing in a party member's MS).

There are uses for Bed of Coals. Once you get creative you'll see what a great skill it is for 10 1 30.

Here's the E/A build I use with it, and it relies on it heavily for damage:

[card]Assassin's Promise[/card][card]Glyph of Sacrifice[/card][card]Meteor Shower[/card][card]Death's Charge[/card][card]Bed of Coals[/card][card]Inferno[/card][card]Return[/card][card]Fire Attunement[/card]

...alter to suit (my favorite build ever), but you get the general idea.

When running multiple SFs I'd often put this on the one that doesn't have ward against melee. Melee enemies below about 60% health would run around in circles taking damage rather than deal damage, and it's a skill the AI can use easily.

Otherwise, farming builds and other similar builds (assassin's promise+dark prison, gosac+ms,iron palm, liquid flame, bed of coals and similar stuff can be pretty decent in fa/ab and fairly fun) as mentioned.

Bed of Coals is an aggro management skill, not a damage skill.

" Bed of Coals is an aggro management skill, not a damage skill."
