how does barbed bow string work please??

Hi guys,

I have just got the forgotten shortbow and the bow string is 'increases bleeding on foe by33%'.

My question is does this bow cause bleeding in the first place or do I need to use a skill that causes bleeding first and this bow will increase the length of bleeding?

If I don't use any skills that cause bleeding is this bow pretty useless to me?

you need a skill that causes bleeding, and then the duration is lengthened by 33%. For example the barbed arrows preperation at 9 wilderness survival would cause 13 seconds of bleeding with a barbed string instead of 10s.
