High Resolution Textures on Characters ?
burnzy51
Hi there
As many of you know, your own character in Guild Wars is in a nice shiny high resolution texture. Anyone else you look at, the textures look very low res and pixelly, and its hard to notice the loveliness of a friends new obsidian armor for example, due to this. The details are blurry and so on and so forth.
Now i dont really care if other people see my armor in low res. But I and im sure many others, tend to show off our new armor to guildees and alliance members.
Would it be possible at some stage to say, add an option to say, have high res textures shown on guildees and alliance members. Its these people i like to show my armor off to.
Ive seen a few people mention it in various outposts and ive had many discussions about it.
Just think it would be nice to see some of ya friends armour in high res instead of the low res that you see now.
Any else been thinkin the same?
Cheers

I vote for hi-res textures on all armours. At least an option to enable them.
Last years graphics cards come with plenty of RAM so there should be enough memory to hold highly detailed textures. Imo texture detail is generally THE achilles heel of many 3D games out there.

I always find it annoying that I can't look at all the other nice armors on people because their all fuzzy.

Gimme Money Plzkthx
An option to enable this could be a waste of time on Anets part, because in a town or other populated area, unless you're running a current (really) high-end DX10/newer card, it's going to kill your FPS...
burnzy51
so how about an option to only show high res textures on people within your guild. its mainly my guild buds who i like to show my armour off too
Yarrick
/signed for an all high resolution textures option, cos i still dont have a great gfx card, but i plan on getting one

Yes! But I hope it doesn't lower FPS too much. At 2560x1600, 16xAA, 16xAF, on my 8800Ultra, it runs at only like 30-ish FPS, which is barely playable. If they added another option that lowered FPS even more, it would become unplayable, and thats like...the best hardware out there right now (more or less).

Well this is a pretty old thread, but I still think they should implement a high res character textures option. Mainly because this wouldnt be a server issue, doesn't use anything thats not already in the game, and is completely optional.
I would like to look at other people's high res armor.

mm, yea. That and add an option to get rid of the sprites pop-up thingee when rendering distant objects. Maybe it was needed two years ago, but I'm pretty sure my video card (gf8800GTS640mb) can handle most of that activity.

I believe that you see hi-res armors when you're not in towns, no? I thought it was lo-res in towns to keep peoples computers from totally dying.
I would like, though, for places like the Guild Hall not to have low-res imaging on others, since there is rarely enough people in there to notice. And plus, I usually like showing off my armor and cool things to people in my guild =D

You can see high res details on another player's armor if you go into an explorable area as a team.
I don't have a problem with people displaying full res in towns as long as it's optional ... so I can turn it off.
A really good first step would be an option of seeing everyone in full res in the guild halls, yep.
But I strongly disagree if any of this becomes fixed rather than an option.

There is already a 'user better texture filtering'.
There could be a 'use best texture filtering also in outposts'.

Solar_Takfar
Except this is not about texture filtering, it's about texture resolution... Texture filtering levels could be forced from outside the game program anyway, but the different-resolution tex sets must be enabled by the game itself.
MithranArkanere
Then a 'Highest' in the dropdown box in the graphics option, that bypasses the limit in towns.
It should be anable manually, sliding the graphic control to the max would increase graphics up to 'Higer resulution' then you can manually set 'Highest resolution', that would allow then even in towns.

/signed computers are able to process more and more every day... GW has been around for a bit more than 2 years.... we can handle high res for everyone.
Hawkeye
Guild Wars was designed to work with most computers, graphics-wise. I think that was the idea, in fact.
I don't have a problem with it so long as it is an option in the graphics menu (so you can have it as it is now if shiny armor is not worth 4 frames per second for you).

why should A-Net waste money on time as something un important as this?
honestly i couldnt give to hoots about a freinds armor i just say "Nice" to compliment them, i dont acctually look, and in a town or outpost i dont look at other people unless there A)being funny or B)arguing senseleslly, for less of a money cost and less of a head f**k Arena Net should have this option available to be shown for all members in your TEAM panel, appossed to fixing it for guilds only, thus making the expense cheaper by making the upgrade undoubtabely smaller, as for an option for the whole game, it seems a pointless waste of resource, money and time to do such as only a handful of members are going to reep the full benefits, where as millions of others are not gonna care, so weight out measures self ego no matter how much u have, and that whole "SHOWING" off ur amror scenario is just for ur own ego boost, so arena net is deffianately better off with the Team Panel texture option!!!!

Umm...
First of all, the reason for low-res graphics in high traffic common areas is not because they fear our computers can not handle it, it's to reduce lag for their servers... well of course it reduces lag for individuals that don't have a great computer but thats what the graphic-settings are there for; so that people with slower computers can adjust accordingly.
I myself wouldn't mind high-res armor textures in towns and outposts either but I also don't really care. If it's really too much hassle for you people to party up and go into an explorable area to look at their armor then what they COULD do is make it so that Guild Halls offer such high-textured armors.

Of course, it should be high res textures on players within a certain range. I don't need to waste memory processing someone whom all I can see is 20 pixels' worth of his leg.
GW was designed so old computers could play it quite well. But it has also been designed so good computers can play it well too - maximum reflections and whatnot.
Did you notice NPCs have high resolution textures? We're more important than they are. We deserve high resolution textures too!

- It is not about "showing of your armor" but to get the full graphics displayed on your 8800Ultra or whatever fast new card you own.
- If it is added as a selection under graphical options, it is up to you if you want it or not.
So stop flaming people for a suggestion, just because jealousy burns your brain out, and you don't know what already is in the games code.
MithranArkanere
Yeah. I can't play normally with Post-processing tuned on anywhere but in Prophecies landscapes, but I'm not asking Anet to remove it from the game.
New toggleable options do not affect others.
They alrady added better filtering, pixel shaders... how is that so 'unimportant' that they add such things?

another thing, when you zoom out on your character the texture detail changes to the same whatever other people view you as in town, which you don't have to be zoomed out too much for it to happen -_-
darkdreamr
I definitely think that the person you have selected should be shown in maximum texture detail. It doesn't have to be everyone in the district.

You can do this right now thanks to the creator of this tool:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10232718
There's instructions in that thread to turn the sound effects off, too.
You have to run the -image switch on your client first. Details here:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=94814
An in-game option would be nice, I guess.

Pretty worthless +1 bump. But as Mister said (for those to lazy to click through links) there is a texmod for this now (its on the official wiki too).
