I cannot "check" the EAX option box under sound options. I use a Creative Xfi Fatality soundcard. I did not have EAX turned on on the card when I installed GW.
Should I reinstall GW????
Can't select EAX in sound options

Which Windows version are you using?
When you're using Win 2000 or XP you may need to install the drivers for your soundcard again.
When you are using Windows Vista you can enable EAX by installing Creative ALchemy, and enabling the Guild Wars fix.

If in Windows 2000/XP, also make sure Hardware Acceleration is enabled:
- Start > Run...
- Type "dxdiag"
- Click the "Sound" tab
- Under "DirectX Features," make sure the Acceleration slider is set to Full.

Are you using any of the command line switches for sound, by any chance?
You may need to force Microsoft DirectSound by using this switch in your game desktop shortcut:
"C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\gw.exe" -dsound
