Why do starbursters use deaths charge?

I mean why use that when you could use ride the lightning to get off some inntitial dmg then use some PBAoE spells to dmg all ppls around you,

Its like why use a teleport that heals you when you haven't taken dmg yet, because most of the time they use it in the beggining of the battle

I'm not pointing out a flaw I'm just wondering why?

Because ride the lightning is a crappy, crappy, worthless piece of junk elite that no one should ever use?

Also, the two elites thing.

I suppose you can use arcane mimicry to get two elites, but why would you want to? One is air magic and the other is fire. You're not going to get much extra damage out of it, and plus ride gives away the spike to even monkeys who only stare at red bars and not the actual playing field.

Yeah, even despite the buff Ride is still a worthless skill.

Starbursters (probably... can't say I've seen any since NF came out... adios to lame fire elites ) use Death's Charge because of the shadowstep rather than the healing... They might as well abuse a horrible, skill-free game mechanic for just 5 energy.

Personally, I'd use Dark Prison for the snare or Shadow Walk for the shorter recharge - and the potential insta-flee when the foe realises you're dumbass squishy right in their face.

Then again, I probably wouldn't run a point-blank ele... They have a tendency to fail hard.
A-Net really oughtta nuke the ridiculous aftercast....

No exhaustion...why does lightning bolt surfing have to be exhausting? Mealstrom, MS, Earthquake and Meteor are understandable...but why RTL?

It causes exhaustion because it's the one thing elementalists are built to handle. Izzy isn't a jerk. He just obviously doesn't like hammer warriors pounding people in the face in the same idiotically easy manner assassins are able to.

Well maybe he is actually...

Seriously RTL is just a traveling skill, nothing more. You get snared by a melee target intent on spiking the shit out of you, you RTL somewhere else. It's the only real use for this skill. It's fun when your feeling fancy-free about your elite, and don't want to go E/A...

20 second recharge as opposed to 5 now, and more importantly, no damage and no Conjure gank. We've been here before...

Right, but the 5 second recharge effectively does nothing. There's pretty much never going to be a situation where you want to spam the crap out of RTL, unlike say, gale. You end up using it on roughly a 30 second recharge, give or take a few seconds on either end.

However, the skill could be unbelievably fun with

15/1/5
You ride the lightning to target foe. That foe is struck for 10...82 lightning damage. This spell has 25% armor penetration. (50% failure chance with Energy Storage 4 or less.)

No abuse by melee classes, zing around the battlefield like a human lightning bolt.

Yes I concur. The skill could be fun without exhaustion, but the 50% failure clause means nothing to a warrior who has 8 in Air Magic to feed his conjure.

This is what I fear...

Air Magic 8
Axe mastery 12 +1 +2
rest in strength

RDL
Shock
Dismember
Executioner's
Agonising Chop
Frenzy
Conjure Lightning
Res sig

Fair enough, there isn't a stance cancel like rush or something, but Ride and Shock, even at 8 Air is already 100+ damage, never mind the adrenal axe spike coming. Even at 15 energy it's still workable.

Like I've said before, for this to be justifiable without exhaustion, it would need to be 25 energy. Potentially with added utility (weakness, blind etc.) to make it more worth it.

It gets even more fun with hammers...

Meh, I'd be surprised if it was worthwhile for a warrior to spend his elite on a 15e skill with a 50% failure chance. I agree with you that if it becomes viable on a warrior that it'll get pretty insane pretty quickly, that's why I threw in the failure chance under energy storage.

25e sounds like it would make it completely unworkable as well, though. The big 25e spammables just aren't workable without elite energy management, which an elite obviously precludes.

Ooh! I didn't notice the 50% being tied to e-storage. Now that's a very good idea. Someone get Izzy on the phone!

In all honesty though exhaustion isn't really a problem. If you can't get along with exhaustion skills (general, not personal), you really need to learn how to become a better elementalist. It doesn't take 'that' long to regenerate it.
I agree that the effect the skill has to be worth having exhaustion (Mind Shock - beautiful, Obsidian Flame - v. nice, Energy Boon - shit). Even still, exhaustion on low recharge skills is all about making calculated decision which require more skill full play. It is such a good game-play mechanic. I can't stress this enough, it really is one of the best in the game.
Bad players spam shit on recharge like retards and don't like exhaustion because they have no usable energy left. Good players choose to incur the exhaustion when they feel they will most benefit from a powerful skill (which all Exhaustion spells should be). That really is the bottom line...

After seeing some other person using Ride the Lightining in RA, I made a build myself...

Honestly at the end of the fight, I had maximum exaustion.. however I could kill any caster with a few skills.

Ride the Lightning, Shock, Frozen burst, Lightning touch, Whirlwind, Whirlwind duplicate, Return, Rez signet.

Not very effective against warriors, lol

I use RTL.

Air Attune
GoLE
Augury of Death
Lightning Orb
Frozen Burst
RTL
Lightning Touch
Lightning Javelin

In AB. Drop Javelin for Res in RA or TA I suppose. I varied it a bunch though. Basically you just DA them and then run the chain. The DA helps to catch up to them if they run, otherwise is just serves to DW them. It deals a ton of damage quick, and worked well for me until I switched to a Sin.
