Transportation (Faster Traveling)

I saw my friend playing WoW and he was riding some sort of creature. I think it would be nice if GW had a similar idea as well, except you dont have to purchase it. Players should be able to capture there own pet and ride it to travel across the map. This would be different from charm animal. Instead of increasing the HP or the DMG rate of your pet by leveling, just like having a dire or hearty pet. Ways of leveling this sort of pet would depend on whether it would be faster, or have more stamina. Im not sure if any one has already suggested this but it was just something i thought i would just put out there. Just wanna know if anyone else thinks its a nice idea.

Yes, people have brought this up numerous times. I see it as pointless. Map traveling is there, why would you need a mount? /notsigned

Map travel only works when you travel from outpost to outpost. Some players who do not have all the outposts still need to run there. Having a mount would increase the fun level of getting there a bit more.

And it would also make the tile legendary carthographer easily obtainable.
Do we really want another title to loose it's uniqueness? No.

In GW1, mounts aren't very compatible with the current gameplay system.

However, for GW2, I'd be all for it for the devs to opt for mounts instead of the immersion-amputator, aka Map Travel, again.

The problem im seeing is Droks runners using mounts...i mean come on, its already easy enough with a dervish runnin' why make it easier?

again, /notsigned....uh..../notsignedagain

Sorry if i seem rude/unfair, but it isnt a good idea for GW1. And i dont wanna say its a good idea for GW2 either, because i dont know enough about it

WoW is a different game to GW. Getting a mount requires time and effort and is a great boon when you get it. But in GW it wouldn't make sense, the zones arn't that big.

Well
1) As everyone has already stated, the fact is obvious. There's map travel already. It already serves the function which you want to add.

2) If you're suggesting to remove map transportation, that's just lame. Nobody complains about the current system, so why fix what's not broken?

3) Speaking from a programmer's standpoint, it would be hell to program. It's not practical. Perhaps it is practical in WOW, but as you can see, this isn't WOW. You were planning on flying in and out of cities and through entire areas with ease?

4) Even if it were possible, it would take out so much of the challenge in the game. The point of the current system is that as long as you have a city, you can go there. The whole structure of the game is centered around this fact and the fact that you can't get to where you want to go anywhere in the game over a period of a couple minutes.

If you want mounts, its going to have to be a class and involve a skill.

Mounts for the sake of having mounts is pointless when theres map travel.

Why would you want to waste time riding back and forth and back and forth between the same places for no reason? Why would you want your character in Kourna to have to travel for 30 hours to play with your friend who's in Lion's Arch? Map travel is one of GW's greatest strengths over other MMO's, because unlike other MMO's GW has no reason to try to force you to waste as much in game time as possible (the central gameplay tenant of fee based games).

Eh, that's not to say it will take 30 hours. I mean, you could just get on a train/flying bird/boat, play a cutscene, and then be there. Something more imersive then being able to magically teleport around would be nice, especially considering there is no lore whatsoever in GW to explain map travel (also who knows HOW GW:2 will be designed. I HATE people making assumptions about a game that is 2 years away).

Anyway, /notsigned for the existing suggestion. GW does not need or support mounts as the zones are all too small to really require it. I also suggest the OP read the forum rules closer and check the idexed thread of ideas stickyed on the top of this forum http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=84455
Mounts are clearly listed and has been discussed to death by hundreds of GW players already.

Mounts could be freakishly cool in GW2.

/notsigned in the slightest for GW1.

Well, maybe if mounts were in GW1 they wouldn't need to be in normal areas. What always bothered me was, while map travelling is a nice feature, it seems a bit unrealistic that you just click somewhere and you're instantly there.

Maybe they could add a mount mini-game sort of thing, where you use map travelling to go somewhere, but instead of getting there instantly you have to fly your pet bird past a swarm of attacking birds, etc. Maybe it could take more than one player to do this to, so you would need a group just to map travel somewhere

It wouldn't make travelling any faster (it would slow it down ), but it would definately make it more fun.

Oh god, no. The most annoying part of WoW is how long it takes to get from place to place... well, there's also the grinding quests, but still, you get my point.
