Hero Issues

Hey, guys!

Problem:
I would like to be able to share my heroes among all my characters.

Why: (NOT in any order of importance)
1. It's extremely frustrating when groups are scarce for some missions, and henchmen do not possess all the necessary skills to accomplish some missions.
2. Paying for a fully equipped set of heroes on ONE character already costs a fortune due to rising rune prices and rising green prices (good gold weapons are out of the question). If it's already a fortune for just one character, how can a PvE-oriented player ever afford to equip all of his/her heroes? Most players cannot.
3. Skill Capping has proved to be a very difficult task especially in areas where the henchmen are low-leveled, and the enemies are strong. Moreover, the maximum members in a party can be small. For example, the monk skill Life Barrier, cappable outside of Beacon's Perch, is extremely difficult to cap with a group of henchmen, let alone a group with merely one healer henchman available.
4. It's difficult to participate in Hero Battles especially when only one of my characters has a good group of heroes. Sometimes, my desired team build does not include my character, so I would not be able to test my ideas.

Please understand that this is my situation. It may not be that all players share a common situation, but if you do, please provide your side of the issue as well. In addition, please add any solutions or potential problems that may arise from any proposed solutions. Thank you very much.

I too think if the characters have unlocked the hero, they can share-use the same hero instead of having to equip them with yet another set of weapons/runes..etc. all over again.

At the moment, I go through the hassle of putting the set of weapons into the storage when I log onto the other character. I just don't have the resources/gold to give each hero the desire weapons.

It's been suggested numerous times before, but I'm going to /sign this with so much passion.

This is one of the things that holds me back from creating new characters - I know that at some point I'm going to want to get my heroes better equipment, and it takes _so_ much effort to get them decent weapons plus about 50k for runes. If I ever had a request for something to be changed, this would be it.

One way to make this change would be to add a message at login: "Heroes have been updated to share equipment across all of your Roleplaying characters. Please designate a character to retain his/her current Hero equipment. (All other Hero equipment will be available for withdraw at an Xunlai Chest)" and, once it has all been withdrawn, the option will simply be non-existant.

This has been suggested before numerous times, though well received, the devs wont have it since it encourages people to play with bots instead of people. This is why there giving Heroes the axe in GW2.

Your heros don't need runes/greens. Your first point is just incorrect. Heros/henchman can do just about anything in this game.
If you need heros for a specific character, GET THEM for that character.

Ok. I do not see any logic in what you have stated above.

First of all, I just wanna know. Are you an avid hero user?

Second of all, heroes don't need runes or greens? If they don't need runes or greens, then they'd be extremely weak and useless, as most of us know that much of a character's strengths are derived from it's runes and weapons, hence the demand for "good" weapons. In addition, runes are sometimes necessary for a certain build to work as planned.

Not all henchmen are fit to take on a certain group of enemies, especially when Anet has been changing the environment of Lornar's Pass to ward against runners. The change in the number of enemies in that area has also affected the effectiveness of the henchmen that were originally designed specifically to handle only the pre-change environment.

Last but definitely not least, "GET THEM"? That's not the problem (since the issue of actually retrieving the heroes was not addressed). The issue is funding for the necessary equipment.

Just because Hero Battles are "supposedly" designed for PvP characters does not mean that PvE characters should be at a certain disadvantage. I prefer to PvE because I like to have a wider variety of armor. That should not come with consequences. If Hero Battles were made specifically for PvP, then why do PvE still have access to it? Certainly, Anet would not intentionally condone disadvantages. As Anet has been doing for the past few updates, changes are made to even out the playing field.

As for my first point, I realized a flaw in my choice of words. I did not intend to generalize. I meant that only some of the missions (i.e. Hell's Precipice, Unwaking Waters, etc.) are usually close to empty, forcing me to work with henchmen alone. I will edit that.

On the subject, I really wish heroes could pick up and carry bundle items...

No-one mentioned the obvious yet? Let's say you have a character with all lvl20 heroes. If heroes become account-wide, then any new characters you make will have an elite team of lvl20 superheroes always available to run them through the game. Clearly this is a bad idea.

I kinda like the idea of account-wide heroes, but the way heroes level will have to change. One idea which I feel could work is that heroes don't level up themselves, but instead are always set at the level of the character playing them. (Actually it's a bit more complex than that, because although currently their armour scales with level, their weapons don't atm, and of course skills would probably need to be unavailable for the hero if the new player doesn't have it yet).

In the grand scheme of things though I still believe that heroes are bad for the game (c'mon it's supposed to be a multiplayer game) and I'd love to see them get the chop in GW2.

Your characters do not play together. they cant run around being buddies. Why would they have access to the same heros, with the same equipment? Unless you have two accounts your warrior and your monk can not beat the game together. So why then would your warriors heros who have faced shiro,abbadon and the lich be able to work with your monk who has only faced the lich? These are not henchmen for hire they are friends and allies.

I understand your points here, and I know where you are coming from, but Hero battles are open to pve characters as well. This should be an attack on someone who clearly enjoys both pvp and pve aspects of the game.

My thoughts are torn on this issue, I would enjoy only having to equip one set of heroes. And I don't think it would be game breaking in the least. I use my heroes nearly 99 percent of the time anyway whether they are equipped well or not, so the argument that account-wide heroes = no pugs, doesn't hold in my case, as my playstyle is <1% pugging anyway.

However gaining heroes isn't too much trouble. You can get 3 heroes before even leaving istan, and if your characters are not elonian born, as soon as you cross over you can have---what 5 heroes if I am not mistaken. This can already give you some pretty extensive flexibility.

I guess It is a decent Idea, and i would not mind at all if it were implemented, but it isn't something I would push for (like an auction house)

When have the ever said that? Guild Wars was designed as a game you can play by yourself, if you so choose, and Heroes were added to make things easier for people who prefer that. They have never said Heroes won't be in GW2, but they have stated that certain achievements in the first game will unlock unqiue companions from GW2.

For hero weapons, if you can't 'afford' things like greens, and can't farm them yourself, collectors offer 15^50 weapons for every weapon type (even caster weapons). Yes, you still beed prefix and suffix mods for them, but those aren't 'needed'. Runes can be bought.... or, gasp... found. I have purchased a total of 3 runes for my heroes, and I have ALL heroes on 7 characters, and all but 5 on an 8th character.

I capped every elite in Tyria and Cantha with hench. Didn't even have heroes yet. Hench can do anything, you just have to know which hench to take, and how to use them. My heroes are better equipped than most players, yet I have spent less than 20k total on 8 characters worth of heroes.

/unsigned - for lack of need

1. Maybe true in hard mode, but even in hard mode I've done most of the stuff with heroes+henchmen
2. Not true. It doesn't need to be perfectly equipped. Last time I checked 90%+ of the runes are less than 200g each (most are 100g). You can easily just use collector's weapons or white/blue items that you find off the ground. The difference is really minimal.
3. The droks run place is the only place where henchmen level is low and monster level is high. There's a reason for that.
4. Welcome to PvP. Ever wonder why Anet gives you PvP character creation?

Plus it really doesn't make sense with the storyline.

Oh, since you want credibility, I've vanquished nearly half the zones in HM with the help of just heroes+henchmen and I always use heroes in PvE. About your point of Hero Battles, even if you have it account-wide, you and/or your heroes will be inadequately prepared anyways, making you at a disadvantage. If you ever ask any serious PvP'er, you'll know it takes a lot of preparation to even get ONE character perfectly PvP prepared.

Until you can manage to provide superior vigors as well as perfect weapon sets on all your heroes on one character, you will be at a disadvantage in HB regardless. So your argument doesn't make sense.
