What's your take on leaving when there are leechers around?
DFrost
I spent a lot of time in Fort Aspenwood this weekend thanks to the Double Faction Event. The event was fun and useful but it seemed to attract more leechers which in turn made more people leave. This made me wonder, what do people think about this? Do you consider it a valid reason to quit when there are a lot of leechers around?
I have to admit that if there are more than 2 leechers on the Kurzick side, I tend to quit a while after the timer has reached zero (making sure they weren't just AFK waiting for the match to begin). It's very frustrating to be in a team of 5 that is busting its balls to keep the fort, lose the game at 80% and then get 160ish faction for it, and the chances of victory were very slim to begin with (unless the Luxons got shafted too and had lots of leeches as well).
Then again, I don't condone leaving mid-match just because "Things started to look bad y'know". If there are no leechers I think everybody should stay until the end no matter what. Providing the leechers free faction while they are ruining the game for others irritates me way more than the current crappy reward for losing. In my opinion the ideal situation would be that if there are many leechers, all others on the same side would quit. Actually I saw this a few times during the past weekend on both sides, I'm sure the leechers were happy about the 10-20 faction or whatever peanuts they got in the end.
OK, that was based on FA. I've been lucky with AB and never been in a team of 12 with many leechers (probably thanks to usually forming a team of 4 with alliance members). Also AB has so long waiting times that things have to be pretty damn grim to make quitting and waiting another 5 minutes an appealing alternative. You can usually get into FA within a minute.
Anyway, that's just my opinion, what do you all think? If ANet is considering actions against leechers maybe they'll find some of our views helpful.

ill leave if there are about 3+ of em and i will even give them the benefiet of the doubt...maybe an emergency or lag issue or what have you so ill stay for a couple minutes....if theyre still just standing around same place they were to begin with then i usually will just quit and go find another group. if theres only a couple i pretty much just deal with it and try to do the best than can be done. cause you also hafta remember the other side may have leechers as well...its just a matter of who has the least amount
Voltar
i've never left. i give credit to the luxon guy who was 1 of 2 remaining luxons who at least made an effort while all 8 of the kurzick team were shuttling refined amber.
3 cheers for people who bring some sense of responsibility to gaming. that dude stuck it out even with a couple lamo kurzicks crap-talking him.

I think leaving is just as bad as leeching. I get sick of people leaving half way through an AB or FA just because they aren't going to win or because there are already leechers. It's just another excuse for you to leave. And have you ever actually tried talking to the leechers? If I see that my team has a leecher I stay by the rez shrine and say [leecher's name] is leeching and they usually start moving again, it's funny. How about you actually try talking before you just ragequit a match because you think the leechers are causing you to lose.
I don't agree with leeching or leaving.

I always play until the bitter end. I've been the last member of my team actually playing a few times, and a lot of times it's me and 1-2 other guys. A few of the rest are leeching and the others have left because of the leechers.
But I just can't bring myself to quit and start a new match, because what's the guarantee that the same thing won't happen again? And I don't want to be like the people I so dislike, so I just play, no matter what the circumstances. After all, that's what I'm there, to play the game.

Usually I don't leave, but after the 3rd or 4th match and they are still there then I leave. I don't like wasting time.
Divine Slaya
If there are 2 or more leechers on my team, I leave. There may be a few close games with leechers on your team, perhaps a win every so often, but the odds are that you will lose. I'm not going to waste my time for a hopeless cause. Sometimes I'm almost tempted if there is 1 leecher because I can't stand helping someone out who isn't doing anything.
I wish Anet would just crack down on the leechers. It's one thing when people are using bots in pve that don't really affect me directly, but when others are forced to deal with them, it becomes an issue.

In AB's, leechers aren't that much of a problem, as you can win with a team of 4 anyway (just cap real fast, and don't be dumb). Most of the time there's only 2-3 leechers max, so you won't have JUST a team of 4 anyway. I don't play Fort Asspenwood, because it's dumb, so leechers aren't an issue. But my opinion is that if there are too many leechers to either win, or have fun playing (constantly getting killed = no fun), then just leave. It's better to hurt a few peoples feelings but get a better team the next time, than have to suffer through the whole match.

I ussually play a couple minutes and comeback to see the leechers.Because sometimes other side have leechers as well. I onyl quit if there are half of the team not into play and the other side is dominating from the beginning.

In Fort Aspenwood, nobody cares if you are doing the more "honorable" thing by sticking it out. The other team is laughing at you. You are getting frustrated. It's just a more complex RA.

leechers AND leavers ftl. i've won in AB 4 vs 11, and once 5 vs 12, with an all guild team, and a smart extra. i've won in RA many times with only two good players... and while 3v4 not being as hard, a lot of the time, its while facing monks. if you leave, you quit, and if you quit, you're a loser, and if you're a loser, dont bother playing the next round, because while you let your last team down, they get the shaft the next time they play, with the last group of leechers, and you get a whole new team for being a punk. play the game and do your best, especially if someone else, or a few others want to try and duke it out.. dont screw over one or two others because you dont want to even try.
Spazzer
The only reason I can see someone urging someone else to "keep trying even when you are down" is if that person is a leecher trying to get more faction out of someone else's effort. :]

People in the game see leaving so black and white, and never seem to accept there are good reasons for leaving. I leave FA/AB/Anything whenever:
-I'm at a major disadvantage from leechers/afk.
-I'm not having fun (GW is game, if your not having fun, something must be wrong)

if you're the only one not leeching, leave, if you know you have real team mates, dont be a dingleberry and leave, especially if they are about to rely on you, and trust that you'll be a real team member too. thats basically the unwritten rule of gaming as far as leechers go. if you can't have fun trying your best with others that are trying their best, then you probably suck at teamwork, and dont need to play anyhow.
Kook~NBK~
I've never left a match. Never will (unless RL stuff crops up). I don't know how many matches my team's been down 400 - 350 (or so) and people started leaving because they were losing. It's pathetic, because there have been many times my team's been down like that and came back and won the battle.
Good job adding to the frustration of honest players who are selfless enough to stick it out.

Erm, it's FA, on a weekend, what are the chances of getting "Good players". I normally leave if the team has about 3 or more leeches, and I need to assess my team 1st to see if they have any hope of doing any good.
If it's unwritten, I don't need to follow, anyone smart knows that. I used to be like that "Never leave" kind of idea, but I learnt some people just arn't worth the effort I put in, as for "comebacks", they rarely happen, and when they do, there fun, and worth staying for.

Nobody is criticizing people for being selfless. Go on and earn that 50 faction for your 15 minutes of effort.
I'll be in the other instance, racking up the points.
If you're selfless and don't care what you earn and are just happy with trying your best, you shouldn't be offended by me being selfish.

Yeah, believe it or not, I actually played AB for fun. The rewards are a nice incentive, or at least they were, now they're a driving force. I don't like ABs anymore, at all. When people start playing to win, they simultaneously stop playing for fun.
I dislike leavers for the same reason I dislike people who yell expletives at others during the match because they're not capping as fast as they can, or yell at those who use Firestorm/Mending/or any other skill elitists like to make fun of. Try to help the down-trodden, fight harder when it seems all is lost, give people advice instead of calling them noob, and if you aren't having fun simply because you're losing, you're not playing the right game.
EDIT: Was clarifying some text in the last paragraph...

face it Spazzer, its people like you that make this community so unsavory as it already is. in between the selfish, scammers, leechers, and the people that call others names and curse in all chat are the reason we have one of the most looked down on communities of all the MMOs. go to RA dis 1 or anywhere in AB and look at all the racist chat, and religion bashing (not heated "debates", but blatant bashing). look at all the leechers, leavers, scammers, spammers, tricksters, and generally nasty people there are in Guild Wars, and you'll see why i made the guild i have now.
we're designed to teach newer players how to play the right way, with manors, and with the skill to be actual players, and not just trend copy cats, that no nothing about skill use.
selfish players are part of the growing problem that is ultimately the bane of all that is Guild Wars, but im sure you wouldnt care anyhow.
How classy..... *rolls eyes*

I'll stick around until the end because a. I have nothing better to do, and b. It's still faction. I have no idea HOW long I'll wait for the next match.

I never leave, but thats because I mostly form a team with people on my friends list. A week ago I saw someone leeching from a prominent AB guild I just told his name to one of his guildies and he got kicked felt great

I hated it to be honest. I was in AB yesterday with guild team, there was one leecher and some guys on the other team were making a really big deal out of it. Then one of them said something in French, and the other 2 teams left. Just like that 7 of them just gone. So with 4 of us left there was no way that we can win. What would you do?
Hate to say this but there are a lot of idiots on Kurzick side.

Actually discussing your options about whether you should stay is one thing, straight up rage-quitting is another entirely.

If it's not worth it why stay?
I'm not having fun being gang banged by a turtle spamming Carrier defense and two warriors, while two people at the res shrine are doing nothing and making almost the same progress as you do.
Doesn't sound like a lot of fun.

FA and AB are different animals in this matter. With leechers around in FA there is a very thin line between giving your best shot and simply wasting everyone's time: ultimately you're just playing into the leechers' pockets, considering it would be so easy for the whole team to just leave and enter a new match within 30 seconds, 1 minute tops. As much time as I've spent in FA recently I've very very rarely seen consecutive matches with 3 leechers on either side.
Playing 8v5 is either annoying, boring or both, depending on which side you are on. In my opinion it would be best to get the nuisance over with ASAP and then get everybody into a new match that will hopefully be if not 8v8 (it's not a perfect world after all), at least 7v6 or something.
The ultimate solution would of course be some anti-leech script implemented by ANet.

So far I've only left one FA match, and that was after 4 people had left because there were 2 leechers.
However, I think alot of the "leechers" aren't leechers. People decide too early if people are leechers or not. Often times it seems there are 2-3 leechers when the match starts, but after some playing, I notice that there's only 1 still standing there. Or there's no leechers at all. I guess some people are just really slow at loading or didn't realize the match had started (afk while waiting for a match to start). I know I did that once (but returned shortly after the match had started). Another time I lagged out almost as soon as I loaded in.
IMO, the leavers are worse. Especially the "omg they have a mesmer I'm leaving" monks. Although it does ruin the fun to know that the leecher who didn't do anything gets the same reward that you worked so hard for... I hate knowing that I helped a leecher get more faction.

2+ unknown leechers OR 1 regular (Dwight, Zoc, Leech for,...) that I recognize by their name is enough for me to leave.
Or I go afk. Depending on when it happens.
AND I will announce that in the chat.
I play the game for MY fun.
I enter a game with other players for MY fun. BUT by doing that I agree on following certain rules - to fight for the TEAM. I do my best for the success of the team.
BUT if the team refuses to fight for ME - I have no obligations towards them.
I don't have enough time to waste it on the bullshit "The other cheek" thingy.

I have never left because of a leecher unless the whole (or at least the majority) team agrees to.
My opinion: putting up with leechers just for the sake of "I will never leave" only encourages the behavior, which in turn makes it bad for players who party with them in the future. It is definitely not black and white.

Tja leaving, sometimes I get so pissed with leechers that I leave, I don't wanna earn any points of them, even though leaving is really not what I like to do, but I just don't wanna reward them.
I wish they would introduce tar and feathers, if you are not out of the base within 10 seconds after start you will be covered by it for 2-3 hours

Well in FA if there is 3 or more leechers I usualy leave. Not because there is an increased chance of losing, but because I don't like the idea of earning faction for people who just can't be bothered to actualy play the game and help out.
Now if it's 1 or 2 I still dislike the idea of helping them out, but I will stick with it. I mean that's face it if I left FA everytime there was a leecher I would rarely get to play there.
I don't like leaving either, but like I said, can't do it. I think the last time I left though we had 3 leechers and one person who quit as soon as he connected. So I apologized and told the other guys why, and left. Anyway that's where I stand on this issue as far as FA goes.
