Walking around with heroes i know that they get a share of gold that you pick up, just like henchmen. But do they also decrease your chances of loot dropping because they take a share?
If i were to farm for a green item i need, would it be a much better idea to do it solo, or grab some heroes to make it easier (though earn much less gold)?
Do heroes take a share of both loot and gold?

You could always just kill everything but the boss, then flag the henchmen away so that their names are grayed out, then solo the boss.

Yep, I would guess that Devona has more Max Gold Req 9, 15 > 50 Crystalline Swords then she knows what to do with.
It would be nice if she would let one drop for me every now and then. Heck I would even take the Req 13 that she just sells to the merch once we are back in town together

THe short answer: Yes.
Why?
Reason 1: Game mechanics. If henchies and heroes didn't get a share of loot/gold, people would opt to party with hench/heroes rather than players for the economic benefits.
Reason 2: Story. In the case of hench, these are either hired hands (who are taking their share) or fellow adventurers (who are taking their share). In theory, Henchies need to buy armor and equipment for themselves too.
In the case of heroes... that dead beat koss has been taking his share of all the loot, and then telling me I have to furnish him with weapons and runes out of MY pocket (cheap bastard!).

Yep, they take gold and loot but you STILL have to buy things for them if you want them to be any good. What crap, huh?

Well, you know there are some fields where it is not unusual for your employer to purchase your uniform and tools *plus* pay your salary. I mean, US soldiers aren't required to purchase their own weapons and armor and still get a salary. It is just that GW version of Salary is keeping your drops. Being a part of the Sunspears I doubt you are allowed to hire mercenary types so they have to join the order.
Now, as to them taking *all* the special armors from the challenge missions when it is obviously a full team effort, well they must have a strong union.
