My question is simple. Does the 10 - 40 base damage scythe actually drop? According to http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Scythe it does, however I want to see if anyone can confirm this for me in game.

I don't see anywhere on this page that states 10-40 damage. I see two references to 10-10 damage.

Scythes, like Axes, can also have a higher minimum damage of 10 as long as the maximum damage is lower than 41.
Yes, they can have 10-40. I don't have one, but I've seen several.

It occurs for other weapons, so why not the scythe?
(if an item is not max damage, it is possible for the low-end number to be +1 higher than normal, like a 7-25 axe for example)

so do you think it might be better to have the 10-27 axe or the 9-28 axe? or scythe or whatever.....do you think the damage might be more consitent witht the higher lower end but lower higher end?

Well one thing's for sure. If he wants to use a scythe on a non-dervish character, and is not expecting to have max damage because he can only put 'x' amount of points into it, then having a higher minimum damage would be superior to having the full maximum damage.

Seraphic, what you say makes no sense.

What DOES make senese is that less weapon mastery = less critical hits = less of the 41 number used, and more of the 9 number, thus it would be better to have a higher base damage.

not true, when you have a critical hit the damage is max damage multiplied by around 1.4. Critical hits have nothing to do with gaining max damage which in the case of a scythe is 41. So for someone using a req 9 9-41 damage scythe with 8 scythe mastery their normal hits vs a AR60 target will do 8 -40 and when they critical do 40*1.4 damage.

Good to hear, can you tell me approximately where these were found?

All over, as a random drop. They are usually blues (since they are "non-max")

RA, reporting you

Just to mention it, this mysterious scythe always does less damage than a regular scythe, assuming you meet the requirement and all that, so it's probably not worth farming. (or using)
