How long is temporary suspension for first account mark?
ubikuo
Excuse me if my english is not so well.
It's a very sad evening for me.
A real friend of mine and guild mate (good monk) has been suspended for 71 hours for excessive spam (045).
He was in Shing Jea Monastery (Italian Dist) giving away Transmogrifier Tonics and trying to animate the Dragon Festival over there when was disconnected.
Maybe he wrote too many msgs in 20 minutes (not offensive ones for sure), maybe he repeated the same msg, maybe he wrote some "selling" msgs in allchat but...
My question is how is possible that an account never marked can be suspended first time for 71 hours for a violation like that (if there was a violation).
I've read on wiki that first account mark suspension is 24 hours, is it true?
The sad thing to me it's that after convinced him 3 weeks ago to restart again with GW (he stayed away for some months) now his account is suspended during all Dragon Festival time :-(
To close this bad story, probably on Monday I will be the user of his account but not so happy for that.
I know I've read lately sometimes ANET make mistakes on suspension / banning but he refused to send a ticket to support, I can do it for him but italian support doesnt work on week-end ... so Festival is gone and also my best guild monk :-(
Have fun

It looks like Anet needs to be more careful.
Stormcloud
why anet? he admits his friend spammed...its on the login screen what more can you ask of them?
Malice Black
Simple solution, don't spam. He was warned, it's on the log in screen.
End of story.
End of story.

I don't think Anet has a set time for suspensions, sure they might probably give out a 24 hour ban to most spammers , but i don't think they have a button :
Suspend account - reason spamming - normal time 24 hours
Suspend account - reason leeching - normal time 48 hours
Also i looked up on wiki and i don't see any mention of a time frame.

The longer the ban the more it will make people think before they do it again.
weretoad
the question is why is it more then 24 hours. not if he should get a mark.
ubikuo
Just a note. Prob he spams something like "Transmogrifier Tonics free, whisper me" or "Come on, all coming here and dance" (in italian :-) ) and for this his account was suspended, ok you're right it's on login screen "don't spam". The strange is that the account is suspended for 71 hours on the first (sure never suspended before) account mark, and this seems to me too strong. If suspension was like wiki said (24 hours) I think all would be more easy: "ok it happened, no more now... we'll see tomorrow"

Have fun (and don't spam) :-)

24 hours isn't long enough IMO to be an effective deterrent. 71 hours is more then fair if you ask me.
jrk247
It even says on the login screen about the spam issue, if you can't take a minute to read that then you/your friend deserves the ban.
Oh and BTW don't go by wiki they aren't the ones in charge of the bans. If Anet wants to ban you for 24 hours or 71 hours they can it's their game and they make the rules.

Malice, I understand your point of view (you're a moderator) :-).
I think 24 hours for first mark was a good deterrent (also 36) then if someone persist to fail (as specified in Guild Wars Conduct Breaches & Outcome) a longer ban or permanent one.
I'm talking about repeating spam, not offensive/insult/bad language chat or scam and so on.
Assuming 71 hours as the right suspension time for spamming (with first account mark) then a consideration:
If you enter more than 3 consecutive msgs a orange msg says you send too many msgs.
If you play a lot, every hour a blue msg say you're playing a lot take a break.
If someone gains a skill point a green msg announce it to you.
I don't know if exists and don't want to try :-) but if there is an automated system to ban people spamming a lot, I'd like to see a red msg saying "if you continue you will be banned" (one time only warning).
Remember not all are malicious and not all love to annoying others on intention.
ciao
Have fun (and don't spam ) :-)

P.S. (IRONY MODE ON) to Malice and Jrk247: take a minute to read the login scren about spam issue -> it's about All Chat Channel and trade spam, to read something about excessive degree in repeating chat need to open a web page (there is the address but not a live link!) (IRONY MODE OFF)

Here I'll even quote it for you.

By now, if you try to sell something in All chat, you are going to get 10-50 hate tells on how they are reporting you. Im not saying im happy your friend got a temp ban, but he should know by now that everyone is reporting people for it. Use Trade channel to sell. It isnt that difficult.

Reply preface:
1) this is my last post about a silly question that I put only to know from others experience how long normally is suspension for excessive spamming on first account mark
2) probably my english (I'm italian) it's more bad than I suppose
because many replies try to explain me that if one spams the account will be suspended (what a news :-) )
Only one try to reply to the question I put on thread subject, all others, seems to me, ignore what I wrote only to read a little part "ah what you want it's spam then it's ok with suspension, it's spam then better long suspension as deterrent, read login screen about spam issue , someone reports you if you use All Chat to trade" and so on.
When my friend explained to me what happened, I have #no doubt# that the trouble was because he put too many "same" messages in short time (=SPAM) and some automated system blocks him. Why I say automated system? Because he connected, travel to Shing Jea Monastery and start to having fun giving away Trasmogrifier Tonics and after 20 minutes (approx) he was blocked, I think it's not for someone reports him and pretty difficult that a staff member was in italian district and for sure not for previous days spam (he normally doesnt use chat I bet he didnt over 1000 msgs in 2 years, I sell items for him in English districts and we use always TS).
Breath :-)
What I expect from my question was something simple like "72 hours it's the minimum for first account mark" or "seems strange, normally was 24 hours but maybe to fight Trade chat spam on All Chat ANET raise up first suspension time", "it's not important how bad is your infraction 3 suspension days it's from the beginning the basic suspension time".
to jrk247: maybe you dont catch why I set IRONY MODE on, try to read what I wrote and what you wrote before and get the result. I can also find funny (and it's no offensive) when you put a part of EULA when I wrote before "to read something about excessive degree in repeating chat need to open a web page" :-)
Have good time and fun all (and don't spam) :-)
ciao

The last month Anet has been getting sick of spam (it doesn't matter if you have marks on your account or not) and they now have a zero tolerance for spam/trade messages (it even includes giving out free stuff) in local chat. Even if your friend was giving stuff away for free he was spamming in local chat and that's why he was banned. End of story.
Anet makes the rules, if they want to ban you for a week they can and if they only want to ban you for 1 day they can. It's up to them there is no set time for a ban. But if you spam you will get banned for over 24 hours. Stop going by wiki, go by the info Anet gives the community. You should know by now that spamming is not right and that Anet has been banning people for it. Don't just post here and ignore the responses you get from people. Your friend got banned for spamming and he derserved it, now stop posting, if your friend is really annoyed by it he would post here.

72 has been the norm for the people that have said on these forums for spamming.
If, OP, your friend wants the mask, be nice and get him the victory tokens (250) and after his ban is over the mask guy will still be in shing jea for a few days---give your tokens to your friend and he will still be able to get a mask.
hope things work out for them.
