Vista users: Screenshot folder
Omega X
Anyone using Vista can explain to me why is it saving images to a new location instead of the folder inside of the GW directory? If so, how to change that directory back?

Foe me GW was saving screenshots and templates to some random character folder which failed most of the time. I 'solved' the issues by running Guild Wars in Windows XP compatibility mode.

For me, It saves it in the "My document" Folder for some reason.

Yes, Windows Vista moves the folder to your My Documents in accordance with "Games for Windows" guidelines set down by microsoft to enable easier games coverage for gamers...
this is microsofts way of bringing some standardization to the games industry for PC users and its working pretty bloody well so far

Regardless of what the GFW guidelines are, I should be able to save stuff wherever I want.
EDIT:
The Compatibility mode thing works! Thanks Hyper!

I will have to remember this when I get my version of Vista.

I dont know if it really is the game for windows thing...
Well they might be following some standards but not all. Mind you, To be branded GFW, you'll need 64 bit compatibility

If anything i'd say that the location of the Screenshots folder is the last of your worries until they release a patch making it run like it should on Vista.

The fact Guild Wars won't save images to its own directory in Windows Vista without running in a compatibility mode is not because of some new invention by Microsoft, but a critical security feature that has so far been mostly ignored in previous versions of Windows even though every other operating system design has supported it for ages.
Preventing userspace programs from writing wherever they please on the hard drive prevents massive numbers of viruses and such from functioning as without the ability to modify other programs and system files they cannot easily compromise the entire system. Guild Wars is merely supporting this by not trying to write screenshots where it's not guaranteed to have write permissions.
Forcing this by default is one of the best new features of Windows Vista, in my opinion.
