Your opinions on the 2007 Dragon Festival? I wasnt impressed.

largely ruined by lag. <3 dragon arena though, only good minigame so far. Using int districts I had a playable ~350 average ping for it 2 games out of 3.
myword
my guild only got back on GW for the dragon arena

I had connection problems all weekend (due ISP), so I was only able to enjoy a section of what was available.
1) The quests were fine. Extremely easy, but no complaints since that's good for new players. The 240 Victory Tokens were nice.
2) I love Rollerbeetle Racing and found this a great way to get the rest of my tokens for my hat/mask in great time.
3) After one failed try (due to lag) I didn't bother with the missions because there was no real reward to it and my connection was not dependable.
4) After loot scaling I can't afford to waste money on AFK Rings.
5) The mask was one of the least exciting ones I've seen. A GRASP mask would have been immensely better -- preferably both, for those who like the masks we got. I also think it's lame that they are available outside the event. Dragon masks and Tengu masks are still the best out there yet were never available outside the event so I think it's lame to allow people to get the demon mask outside the event. An actual dragon festival would have been better and a teaser for GE:WN would have been largely more appreciated than a "reenactment" of last year's Nightfall teaser-based event.
I may not have been impressed, but free festival events are nice anyways. No true complaints.

Cant really comment. with an average ping in excess of 1k in an empty international district its prett hard to do anything.

It was definitely weirder than lag.

I came away pleased with the festival. Sure, it was almost a verbatim copy of last year's plus rollerbeetle racing (yay!) and a new hat (which I admittedly liked less than the dragon mask), but for me that's acceptable. I can only imagine the amount of work that goes into developing these festivals concurrently with fixing bugs, tweaking skills and coding new products. ANet did a great job with the original Dragon Festival - I don't expect them to reinvent the wheel every year.
It seems the bar has been set at one original festival for each new product release. When GWEN comes out later this year I'll begin looking forward to an entirely new festival. Until then, I'm happy to enjoy second (and third!) helpings of the great work they've done to this point.

I liked it but I didn't like it
Liked the atmosphere and the quests but did not like the attitude
of the present drops I went to 3 of these did my bit in delivering
the celestials to the npcs only to manage to pic up 3 presents
total EVEN if they were at my feet or close to me
I'm not the fastest clicker out there so when you get someone
fast run buy grab the present out from under you and THEN get abused
by them like "Sucks to be you" OR Too slow you F**** NOOB"
YES I got the pm screen shots that says that.
it is very disheartening.
That was my only wish that the Presents were assigned.
But overall it was fun event.

Well I was at the first Dragon Festival, but I missed the one last year. While the quests and stuff were pretty much the same, "except the whole acting thing", I thought it was ok. I finaly got to try rollerbeetle racing, which I liked despite lag spikes and a-holes that would just sit on power up boxes trying to keep people from finishing.
I tried Dragon Arena at the first festival and wasn't impressed. I'm not saying it sucked it just wasn't for me. So I skipped it this year. Didn't bother with the missions, but did the quests. Already did those the first time around anyway.
Anyway I don't think it was even planned to have one this year. I think they did a decent job at bringing it back because people wanted it. For me it was better then most of the regular weekend events they have. Anyway that's what I thought of it.

same thing as last year :P , neeed new stuff

I got to play Dragon Arena.
So I was happy
And for the first post, in case no one answered it, Dragon Arena was always like that (3 skills, rest are reses). I think you're thinking of the other Dragon game with the hatchlings o___O; that's in the boardwalk. and that definitely was no strategy..just sugar rush and click >_>

You guys who had a lot of lag or complained about presents should have gone to International Districts. The last day the top 10-15 districts were the only ones with a decent amount of people and I didn't lag much at all.
I liked the event, I upped three titles by a lot and made some money. :P

I got the stupid hat, but not sure why as it's pretty ugly and not dyable. The decision to make it undyable is just weird. I don't get it. The whole event was "meh" for me.

I enjoyed it because I made a fair amount of easy cash, I enjoyed the Rollerbeetle Racing and the Dragon Arena was ok. Free for all gifts was great

I thought it was fun. The missions provided a nice challenge, the games were entertaining as usual, and I didn't have any of the lag problems others seem to be complaining about. On the whole, a good event.
Xiaxhou of Trinity
-DA= always like that
-there were festival missions, just the main festival mission was harder and
it wasn't really during set time you just have to talk to Riujiyo....
-The celebration is not celebrating the "dragon" but the "dragon empire".
Read what the npc's are saying....They are celebrating how the Dragon
Empire has triumphed over yet another evil (plague, shiro, etc).
-Are you new? GW servers always lag that much during events. I have to
admit that it was a diff kind of lag (slow reaction times, frozen then
unfrozen), but i've experienced much worse lag during christmas or new year
-Masks were never that exciting, you never got to pick the mask last
festival........Last time was tengu mask i think
-The festival mission was not "hardcore players related", just get a better grp
and go....you whine a lot.......Anet events were never that perked up,
only the first time you experience them.
-items=sugar rush for festivities, can get high for title, other stuff you can
randomly shoot off (a guild party full of ppl with sparklers is plain fun)

I for 1 enjoy all the festivals. What i did not enjoy about this years dragon festival was the 5 second delay on all my skills. (Yes I timed it). This went on all weekend long. But i was able to up my lucky title 50,000, so all is good.
TheUndying
The Festival was ok, just frustrating, though during the festival, I happened to stumble across a district where the grasps had 1,000 or so points. I made some money here and there, manage to get 250 presents, which was my goal. I had about 7 stacks of Victory Tokens and sold 6 of it for a really cheap price -_-. I always go to a district where it had less people, but also one that was slightly winning so I can help out.
Enix
Lucky title ftw. Thats all it was for me.

I loved it, the whole actor thing was so funny.

20 stacks of tokens, converted into 2 stacks of Creme Brulee made me a happy camper

Can we have another festival soon, when our pings are back down to a tolerable level over here in Europe instead of averaging around 8,000?
I Will Heal You Ally
1. Loved that Anet put Boardwalk this week (r3 lucky title )
2. Masks aren't that bad, I kinda like it
3. The Celestial Charges part were great I really enjoyed that part
4. Didn't like how the present dropped - in Wintersday you got your present with your name on it so none could steal it.
5. The missions were harder but not impossible. All you had to do is have a tank and healer and 2 damage dealers and you'd win - oh and have a guildies help you since most pugs dunno hwo it works.
6. I don't get why are Dragon Arena and the Rollerbeetle so interesting. I find it too boring and consuming time and you get worthless prize o_0
As for the festival only I'd give 9/10 because the dropping gifts weren't organized.

Or you could have taken part on a quieter day.

I am VERY UPSET that I missed the original dragon festival and this one did NOT even give out Dragon Masks... VERY VERY MAD! I have waited almost a whole year to get a missed Dragon Mask and now all we got was this Demon Mask (which in my opinion is horrible). Why didn't they give us an option for an old mask or a demon mask?
The one !@#$@$#% mask I want in the WHOLE game.... (I have every hat except that!) and we get a Demon Mask...
WTF?!?!? > > >

I get that somehow they tried to make this event involved NightFall and the defeat of Abaddon, but that never made sense to me.
Why was it still called the Dargon festival then?
Why not have an event specifically to celebrate Abaddons defeat?
Why not have an event specifically to celebrate the new Godess?
They completely screwed up a perfectly working event and it seemed rushed to me. It was good last year and it just didnt feel the same.
Prowlinger
Well they could have created a 2nd type of dragon mask... oh well...
(Similar to how they did the Xmas deer horns with 2 variations)
Yeah this festival seemed like it was more aimed toward promoting Abaddon instead of the Dragon Festival itself...
I know ANET is crunching on GWEN as we speak before release ... I dunno... Wish there was a way for a person to make a duplicate of a prior mask from a friend for ... I dunno.... 25k ?
Steep yes... worth the effort for some of us wanting old masks... yeah...
Oh well... shelving the mask along with all other ones for now... Time to work on finishing Factions and Nightfall on the heels of GWEN ...

This event was lagtastic.
I enjoyed it as I enjoy every holiday event A-net provides for us. I wouldn't mind exact copies of events if they keep them coming every year, with the exception of coming up with a new mask each year.
I was kind of disappointed with the demon thing during the dragon festival, but like I said I enjoy all of the holiday and celebration events. Collected over 1000 tokens, my LvL 3 mules and henchmen just couldn’t kill off the grasp and the lag was so bad with the missions when I eventually zoned in my group was wiped or I’d had more. I didn't care for the new mask was thinking it was going to look like one of those Chinese or Japanese demon mask, but I wasted 250 tokens on it anyway.

now to answer your questions:
why was it called the DRAGON festival? Because it is put on by the Dragon of Cantha aka The Emperor
why not have an event to celebrate abaddons defeat? Abaddons minions invaded the festival last year, what better way to celebrate then have the same festival again and give the finger to Abbadons minions at the same time
why not have a festival to the new goddess? Word of the new goddess is still spreading, hence why there is still only ONE statue to her, wouldn't be a very successful festival when nobody knows who it's in celebration of.

I adored the event. The Re-Enactment aspect was wonderfully meta and the mask looks absolutely awesome on my Paragon. Yes, she's still wearing it and I see it every time I log in.
We don't really need to talk about Rollerbeetle, Dragon Arena, or the Boardwalk, because those are apparently fixtures in any event held in Cantha these days, which is certainly enjoyable. I wouldn't mind another Boardwalk weekend either If someone chose to be AFK for two days, they had that chance.
While I did have a problem with lag, much of it went away in the international districts I went to. Figuring out the spawn patterns of the presents was rather easy - yes, they *did* spawn at every player and NPCs feet in random intervals. I heard about the bugged districts where Grasps would run rampant, but there were many more districts where they didn't. I took part in about ten finale events all through Sunday and - after a short night's sleep - into Monday, and all of my districts won, with people using their chocolate bunnies to outrun Grasps and generally having a good time.
The only truly appalling thing were some players who would insult others for fun. And *that* is not something I would want to blame ANet for. The event was definitely fresh - if you consider that the whole concept of an annual festival includes some repetition.
I twould have been nice to see Glint and Kuuvanang though.
